Wow -- Not sure where to start…read more.. Let me say this, it would probably be an mediocre 1-Star Hotel. And if you have a 1-Star Hotel then just advertise it as a 2-Star Hotel, don't try to make it into something it is not. The first thing I noticed is the dirt on the floor of the elevator in the corner. It would have been so simple to clean but looks like it has been that way for a very long time. The second thing I noticed is all the stains in the carpet. They are filthy and need to be replaced. The third thing I noticed is the stains on the dresser drawers. What is that stuff anyway. They need to be thrown away. The forth thing I noticed is the town lamp shade. Just toss it already, why on earth do they keep it. The fifth thing I noticed is the other lamp they have looks like it was used as a hammer at some point in its existence, it is dented beyond belief. The sixth thing I noticed is the broken drawer in the bathroom. Why would they even rent this room out looking like this? The seventh thing I noticed is the dirt and grime in the corner of the bathroom floor. So disgusting, when was the last time they did a deep clean? The eighth thing I noticed is all the grout between the tiles is gone. It should have been redone many years ago. All I could think of was how much bacteria is in there and bugs coming up from between the tiles. The ninth thing that I noticed is the micro shampoo and conditioner bottles. My wife uses more that that for one wash and this was suppose to last three people for three days. Why not just mount large refillable bottles to the wall like everyone else. The tenth thing I noticed is there is no hot water. No matter how long you let it run it gets luke-warm at best. I was freezing and miserable. The third day decided to just skip the shower. When passing through the lobby I noticed a woman also complaining about there being no hot water. How they stay open, and better yet how to they carry the Best Western name is beyond me. Best Western should yank that sign and condemn this place. I will never stay at another Best Western as long as I live. Be sure to check out all of my photos.

At first glance, it seemed promising - the location is great, the parking felt safe, and the lobby was very clean and modern, with a nice "new age" look. Unfortunately, the room didn't live up to the first impression. It was tiny, even for two people. The bed was incredibly hard, and worse - it didn't fit the oversized frame it was on. As I showed in the photos I uploaded, I hit my shin badly on the bed frame, drew blood, and it hurt like heck. When I went downstairs to show the clerk, she offered no help at all - not even a bandage. The room also lacked a microwave, which was a letdown. And oddly, my keycard stopped working around 9:50 a.m., just before checkout. We travel through this area 3-4 times a year, and while this place was cleaner than our last spot, I've never been injured at the other hotel. Next time, I'll be looking for a room with more space - and a safer layout.

I've been here nearly a month after losing my home in a tornado so I feel qualified to write this review. They don't seem to swoon over us out of pity, it appears they are helpful with everyone. If I were upper management at Best Western I'd be concerned about losing this manager and all of the desk clerks. Some fancier hotel is going to notice what I've seen (too much to put in this review) and make him (and them) better offers. The women who clean the rooms are nice and do a fantastic job. If I could afford to I'd hire one of them to do my house weekly when I get my house back. The drawbacks are not too bad. The water pressure could be more but so it is in almost all hotels. This place intrigued me and decided to book this place for a week, since I was tagging along a business trip my husband had. Check in for this hotel is between 3- 6 pm. Unfortunately, my husband and I were not able to check in during that time and luckily had been able to get ahold of Howard, one of the owners of this place, and told us he would still be awake to check in until ~10 pm, when he goes to bed. But that he would leave the key in the cottage, where I had booked to get in, in case we come in after that. Howard was very nice when we met him (we ended up arriving after 9 pm). He showed us to the cottage, which is a small little place behind the main house (where there are 4 other rooms). The cottage has a king size bed with small living room. The bathroom is just a short few steps away from the sink. There is also a shower and a footed tub. I'm not a fan of baths and so I booked this place specifically for the shower. I wasn't too sure if the rooms inside the main house had showers, as I only saw photos of the footed tub (but there are a few rooms that do. I believe the room on the first floor only has a tub). The living room had a large TV and a Keurig machine with plenty of coffee and tea pods. I liked that a lovely tea set was provided to have my tea made in. As for breakfast, Howard had provided information for 3 places around town that we could get breakfast at. We ended up going to the White Rhino Coffee a few times and also El Mexicano Grill once. Overall, I would say that staying here was comfortable. Howard was very friendly and greatly appreciated him showing my husband and I a tour of the main house and most of the guest rooms (as we were the only ones staying at this bed and breakfast). But there were a few things that I want to mention that was unexpected. One was the daily housekeeping. Because my husband was at work during the day, I was staying in the cottage by myself. On our first day, my husband picked me up during his lunch so that we could pick up lunch at a nearby restaurant and then eat it at the cottage. When we came back, our door was wide open. I was surprised and thought I had forgotten to lock the door. But when I came in, I saw Tony, a friendly employee removing the sheets from our bed and putting on new ones. He told me that normally he comes by in the morning while guests typically would go out for breakfast but that he was late today. I had told him we didn't need housekeeping the next day. However, he came by, but only because I had asked Howard for some more tea pods for the Keurig, so he had Tony come by to provide new ones and clean towels. I didn't know if Tony would come but had a feeling, so I tried to take a shower very quickly when I woke up the next morning. The door that has the sink does not lock and because the way the shower and the mirror at the sink is angled, you can see someone taking a shower. This definitely made me feel uncomfortable, not knowing if Tony would come in for housekeeping and see me. Another thing that I want to mention is the train that goes all day and all night. The first morning we were here, I heard the train sounding the horn at 6:45 am and kept on going. My husband told me that typically the train will sound the horn when passing by intersections so cars know to stay back. I didn't really hear the trains too much later that first night. However, on the last night, the trains were going off all night long. I was so incredibly tired and severely sleep deprived when we woke up early the next day for our flight to fly back home to Los Angeles. I hardly was able to sleep (the train horn is very loud and you can hear it from several miles away). Also just wanted to mention that I heard a rooster around 6:30 am every morning and also heard the rooster in the afternoon each day. Same with hearing dogs barking. These noises didn't bother me but the train sound was definitely a problem. Of course these outside noises are not the fault of The English Merchant Inn but wanted to mention them. I really enjoyed my stay in the cottage at The English Merchant Inn but not entirely sure if I can stay again with all the noise. Where the majority of hotels are in this city, they are on the outskirts of town. According to my husband (he has traveled to Waxahachie several times for work), you can't hear the trains from the hotels, where he stayed before). If I was to stay here again, I would have to bring some really good ear plugs to block out all the noise for a restful night's sleep.

Entering our room the cracked flooring and dirty bedcovers were a taste of things to come. Unfortunately, we did not heed this and unpacked our children, bags, and pet dog. The toilet in the bathroom does not flush, the handle in the shower is falling off, and a dead cricket resides in the corner of the bathroom floor. After a brief discussion we decided to just keep the room, it was after midnight following a long day of driving. Sometime around 2 am a crew of workers began doing maintenance on the room upstairs, they stomped around and used powertools for at least 2 hours. I was able to drown out the sound a bit with the extremely loud bathroom fan. This was the most expensive (by far) and worst motel (by far) of our trip. As a final note, there are very few cars in the parking lot leading me to believe this is one of their better rooms or that they do not have any idea about the conditions of the rooms (or maintenance schedule) in their hotel. Do not stay here. Negative stars.

This hotel is way too proud of their crap rooms to be charges over $70 per night. This area is too nice to have a crap hotel like this! So apparently if you book this place and enter your card information - you're not paying for the hotel. They'll make you pay when you get there and then charge you. (I ended up with 2 charges and had to get my bank to correct it). The front desk gal for night time was very young and maybe inexperienced. So we get to the room and it smells like no one has turned on the A/C for a few weeks, so we crank it down to cool off on this ungodly humid May evening. It looks likes someone slapped some recent pant on the walls. Next to the bed on the wall shared with the bathroom is tow LARGE dents like either a head or multiple fists/objects had tried to make a new opening. In the bathroom there was mold along the edging and some type of little black bug on the towel hanging over the side. There was not free or complimentary soap in the room to be found. Literally the one thing I pray I don't have to haul around and you can't offer a 5 cent bottle of soap for the shower?! We get in bed - with very light, thin sheets and realize there are only 3 tiny thin pillows for 2 people. We call the front desk and ask for at least 1 more. We are told that we'll have to walk all the way to the lobby for it. Granted, there were 2 ladies there at the front just minutes before, but not one of them could walk down to our room where we are paying to stay?! So the spouse marches over and gets this extra pillow. We quickly find out midway through the night that the A/C unit has a mind of its own when we nearly turn to ice pops. But when we tried to turn the A/C up a bit, it wanted to sweat us out. The sheets were too thin to be frozen but the humidity was too strong to sweat. I'm not sure I got any decent sleep that night. Just don't come here. Drive an extra 10 minutes to the next town and get a better room!

They also host lots of events outside the hotel on their lawn. Hotel is nice. Staffs are super polite and trained. Everything is clean and super decorative. Hotel has restaurants on the first floor, they have small pool, small gym, and spa which you have to pay for. I stayed for two weeks and needed my clothes washed. The hotel does have a service where they send it out to get it washed. But it was insanely expensive. To wash a shirt was around $10. It would have cost me like $150-$200 for a week worth of clothes. I drove 20 min to the nearest coin laundry and spent couple dollars. Would love to see coin laundry in the hotel. Gym: The gym has dumbbells that only go up to 75lb. No barbells. The machine to do back, arms, etc were uncomfortable to use. Pool: Pool is on the same floor as the gym. Can see downtown Dallas. I think it's infinity pool(?) but it's pointing to the hotel building rather than facing downtown Dallas. Room: Room was super nice. The A/C is amazing, works very well. As soon as I got back to room, I set room to 62F. Then to 68F when i got cold. I stayed for 14 days and found out on my last day that there's a fridge hidden in the cabinet. I was super upset about that. The soaps, shampoo, etc are nice. The staff gives you new set even if you are using them and not empty. Price: My rate was $170 through business portal. So probably cheaper. For 14 days (13 nights), I paid little over $3000 due to various taxes and parking your rental car is like $30(?) a day.
