I called town taxi after trying a well known inet service for 2 hrs. They set up the ride in less than 5 min

I've been taken for a ride twice now by these guys, so time for a grumpy review. First time, hopped into a Town Taxi cab at Coolidge Corner, heading for the airport at ~5:30 am. The driver starts taking a somewhat odd route, but hey, sometimes they know weird tricks that avoid snarls, right? Turns out, he gets completely lost and has no idea how to get back on track to hit the tunnel, so we end up driving around a bit randomly downtown until he recognizes where he is. After racking up quite a bit more fare, we finally get back on track and he gets me to the airport- luckily, I had budgeted but extra time, but sheesh. What a ripoff. Second time, I grab one at the brookline Marriott heading to the back bay station. Again, slightly circuitous route, but it turns out to be fairly efficient. This time, though, when I ask for some change for my $20, the driver makes a half-hearted show of flipping through a few twenties and fifties to show that he has no change, and shrugs unapologetically. Since they don't take credit cards, I'm stiffed the change. Of course, neither of these necessarily had anything to do with the outfit as a whole, but given that I've never had these problems with other companies in town, I'm gonna be avoiding these guys from now on. read more

Selfishly, I've been hesistant to yelp about Town Taxi because I felt like they were my little secret. Like that little cafe that you love but don't want it to become overrun with d-bags when word spreads about its fabulosity. However, when I saw that Town Taxi only had 2 stars on Yelp, and received a few scathing reviews, I felt like I needed to stand up for my boys. I've been a loyal Town Taxi customer since I moved to Boston (so for a year and a half or so) and they have never let me down. As a matter of fact, I use them so frequently that they often send town cars for me. This morning, I was running late, and knew I wouldn't be able to make it to the legal clinic where I volunteer (by North Station) from the South End in time if I took the T. So, I called my boys at Town Taxi. 10 minutes later, a wonderfully nice man was ringing my doorbell. He had a Mercedes there waiting for me. Granted, when I got in the car, he told me he had just moved to Boston and had no idea where North Station was -- but his trusty GPS led the way. Maybe it helps that I speak French and a lot of the drivers speak French, but the drivers are always so kind to me. And, I all too often eschew public transportation, so I use this company frequently and the dispatchers know who I am. I love that when I call my cab company the dispatcher will joke with me about where I'm "hob-knobbing" (his words, not mine). All in all, I've never been disappointed. I use them when I have to go to the airport, or when I just don't feel like trekking it in the rain. Ahh, love them. read more

Neutral review for now. I tried them twice today. My first cab came by in like 4 minutes, I had barely put on my shoes. Really nice driver. The second time around, I got called back and said it would be 40 minutes and they didn't know if it would take more than their estimate, so I had to cancel and call up Red Cab. read more

I always use town taxi to get to the airport and I've yet to be super disappointed. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because one time the guy was 20 mins late and drove down the center of I90 and scared the crap out of me, but either way I made it in one piece. :) All my other trips (and we're talkin' upwards of 20 trips in the last 2-3 years) were perfect. The dispatch guy is so freakin' nice, always arranges for my STUPID EARLY cabs and makes sure they take my credit card since it's for business. I've even had to call and change times and such last minute and never had an issue. They store my info so all they need is my phone number and they have my address etc. saved so it's super easy to just call. Pretty sure you can do it online too! read more

As a dog owner of a medium sized dog, I know the frustration of trying to get a taxi in Boston. But this company is INCREDIBLY pet friendly. From the dispatch to their drivers they are really great and accommodating. I've used them before but only getting around to writing a review after using them last night. Unlike other taxi services who either out-rightly refuse to take pets and hang up on you, make you wait around for someone willing to take you, and even then make it seem like it's a huge favor, Town Taxi (or Boston Town Taxi) is always willing to take your dog. They even keep the dog's name on file and automatically know where the pet vets and hospitals are in the city. When it's 11:30 at night and you have a really sick dog, I can't tell you how helpful it is to have a quick and easy taxi available. In that situation it's the LAST thing you want to deal with. So kudos to Town Taxi for taking a really sick, 48lb dog with no complaints and no hassle! If you love your dog, use a cab company that treats them right! read more

Haven't even been picked up by the taxi yet, but I just wanted to leave a review for the sole fact that they are picking my puppy and I up to go to the vet. No traveling crate or anything. The dispatcher's only concern was that it's raining outside right now and he wanted to know how big Bushi is. I told him we're leaving from our apartment and he said it's absolutely fine. This really alleviated a lot of my concerns.. Walking from Beacon Hill to South End (even though a 30 minute walk down Tremont) with a sick 3.5 month old puppy in the rain isn't exactly something I was looking forward to doing on my day off today. read more

Two nights ago night i ordered a cab in brighton to take me home. They guy on the phone said the cab would be about 10 minutes please wait outside. It's pouring rain so I wait under the awning so i don't get drenched. 20 minutes go by and no cab. I call the cab company again and he rudely tells me i wasn't waiting outside (usually they'll call to tell you they are there). I said i was and didn't see a cab. He said a cab will be there in 10 minutes. After 10 minutes I see a cab coming so i step to the curb. The driver stops short right next to where I'm standing and hydroplanes. A wall of water covers me. The driver didn't give an apology. He was complaining that I was making his seat wet. AHHHHHHHHHH read more

The first time I used this service I thought they were great. I even signed up for an account with them. WRONG. I don't know what happened but they went from being a courteous group of drivers with reliable service and clean well maintained cabs, to a fleet of dirty cabs, with no springs in the back, reaking of stale cigarettes, sent by the worst dispatchers in the history of transportation - rude and incompetent - whose cabs never show up on time and when they do show up the drivers are surly and taciturn. The last 10 times I have used them I had three good experiences. I feel sorry for those few good cabbies, working with this group of losers. read more

These guys are terrible, rude and unreliable. I was on my way to the airport, so I called an hour ahead to reserve. They insisted on getting a credit card number to hold the reservation. Then I called them at 15 minutes after they were supposed to have arrived and they gave me all kinds of attitude, as if I was bugging them by checking on my ride. After another 15 minutes, they called and said they'd arrive in another 15 minutes, which would be 45 minutes after the time I reserved. Ugh - NEVER again! read more

I can't recommend this company. I called to arrange a cab at a certain time and waited. I called again and they said 5 more minutes. I called again and they said he's waiting outside, he wasn't. I called to tell them to cancel and I see this guy backing up my one way street, fine. My man's taxi should have been traded in for that cash-for-clunkers program. He could barely get it up to 40 miles an hour, it was all jerky and sounded like it was going to brake at literally any minute. The cab driver didn't know where he was going and too make a long story short, my date and I thought we were going to die the whole time. On top of that, this ride cost us almost twice as much as the same ride home from a different company, not sure how that works. read more

If you use Town Taxi, don't be surprised to hear your driver cursing the pedestrians that land on his windshield while he blows through stop signs taking you the long way to your destination. I give them one star because I can't give fewer. These guys have tried on occasion to take me for a ride, ignoring my directions. One that I was not in blew through a stop sign and crosswalk my wife was traversing. It was close enough that she put her hand out and hit the vehicle. The driver, in the wrong and already through the stop sign, stopped the car and was verbally abusive toward her. There are other cab companies in Boston/Allston/Brookline/Cambridge. Town Taxi picked me up early in the morning (made appointment the night before) to head to the airport. The driver was on time and called 2 minutes before arriving. The fare was in the quoted range and there was nothing unpleasant about the experience. I will definitely call then again next time I fly early morning. read more

I kind of dig these guys! I've booked about six rides through them and gotten the same drivers a couple of times; they're really pleasant and have a lot of character. On two occasions, I must admit, the cars were late for my intended pick-up time. Once I called their dispatch fellow, though, he remedied the situation and sent another driver out right away. read more

When I called Town Taxi at 3pm to make the reservation for 3:30pm, they were very polite and seemed to be very professional. Usually when I schedule taxis with other companies they come at least 10 minutes early, at 3:28pm no one had yet arrived and I began to worry. I spoke to the same operator that I had made my reservation with and it sounded like she had actually lost my information and was frantically looking for it. She told me to hold and a gentleman came on the line who asked in a very rude manner if I still wanted a taxi. I asked if there was a taxi on the way, and he told me to hold again. After about 2 minutes the line dropped and I called another taxi company. At about 25 minutes after my scheduled pick-up time and 5 minutes after the other taxi company came to pick me up, the male operator called me back and ask (still in a very rude manner) if I still needed another taxi. read more

Very nice. Had to rush to South Station to catch a bus. One of two cab companies that picked up the phone. One estimated pickup in 20 mins. This one estimated 5-15 mins. They got there in 4 minutes! Excellent start. Turns out the cab driver was a student working a few nights a week to pay his way through school. Nice chap. Only missed 5 stars because the car could not fly ... something that would have saved me about 15 minutes of my travel time to South Station. Actually, it missed 5 stars because it was one of those horrible old gas-guzzling chevrolet taxicabs with the low, and rather uncomfortable seats rather than a modern hybrid. read more

I'm on my first trip with town taxi now and the cab driver is nothing but rude. When my friend (who is from the area) asked if he knew where he was going te cab driver asked if she wanted to drive and told her to calm Down. Town taxi SUCKS! We called them 55 minutes before we needed to get to South Station from Brookline. The dispatcher said they'd be there in 10 minutes and its a 15 min trip. We figured we had plenty of time. Long story short, the taxi took 30 MINUTES to arrive. We called them at least 5 times during that wait and was told each time that the taxi was 2 blocks away and was stuck in "traffic". 20 minutes of traffic to go 2 blocks on quiet residential Brookline streets??? 30 minutes later the taxi finally arrives. We miss our bus. We have to buy $80 worth of new tickets that don't get us to NYC until 3am. We will NEVER use town taxi again. Beware! read more

This company was terrible. I called for a cab and they told me 5-10 minutes. 25 minutes later I called back, and the guy at dispatch contacted the cab that was supposed to pick me up. He'd been pulled over by the police and it was unclear why and if/ when they were going to release him. I was involved in the entire conversation by conference call!! Dispatch tried to reassure me that cabbie "would be right with me" but as he was still stuck with the police I said thanks but no thanks. I called Boston Cab and they picked me up in well under 5 minutes with no issues. read more

This Taxi company is sleazy and it sucks. We needed a cab to take us from the U Save car rental in Allston to Beacon St. in Brookline. I called at 1:10 in the afternoon and the dispatcher told me it would take about 10-15 min. Fine. I thought that seemed a little long, but it was raining out and we just wanted to get home. 15 min later, no cab. 20 min later, still no cab. Finally, after 25 min I had had enough and decided to call Metro Cab which I should have done in the first place. Just as I was hanging up with Metro Cab, Town Taxi finally showed up. The taxi driver didn't even get out of the car to help us put our luggage into the trunk. We gave him our address and we were on our way. The taxi ride was incredibly bumpy, and the taxi felt unsafe. Also, the driver was texting on his phone while he was driving. Pretty sure that is illegal in Massachusetts! I swear the driver was going so slowly that we missed just about every light. We even had to direct him to make a left onto Beacon St when he was about to go straight on Washington. The worst part was when we asked him where we should slide our credit card and he said the credit card machine was out of order. Probably something that should have been communicated to us before we even got in the taxi! The ride came to $11.20. Over two dollars more than when we took the same exact ride in Bay State Taxi the day before. I handed the driver a $20 and he said he only had $5 to give back to me. Ummm, last time I checked, the customer has a right to decide how much your tip should be! So basically our driver walked away with almost a $4 tip for a horrible ride. Never again. You lost a customer for life. read more

I work for a hospital in the area that has been using Town Taxi for years. I have to say they are the worst taxi company in Boston. They take forever to arrive, sometimes the dispatcher forgets to dispatch the taxis and the taxi drivers have the worst additude towards the customers. I use to call this company ever night. They just lost out business. read more
