Great find in a small town in Nebraska! My husband had the double cheeseburger and I had the fried chicken salad. Both were great!

Taylor was amazing, our bartender made perfect martinis and the food was off the charts! The shrimp cocktail was six of the biggest shrimp ever, the Chicken Dianne was rich and delicious and hubby's Wagyu Ribeye was spectacular! The show stealer was the pork belly, it was rendered to the perfect melt point with a flavor all it's own, no sweet sauce, just pork! It's in the middle of nowhere but oh so worth the trip!

The salads were nice, good homemade dressing and they serve lovely bread and butter-I'd give those a Nebraska 4-4.5. The truffle potatoes were super dry, tasted nothing like truffle and almost impossible to swallow without a swig of water in your mouth. The prime rib was smoked so long there was almost no flavor except smoke. Perhaps some people like that but I just felt like I was getting colon cancer with every bite, plus they were full of fat too. I'd say at least 1/3 of the meat was fat in everybody's and you saw lots of picking and spitting. That makes a meal really annoying and a bit embarrassing. The baked potatoes were ok. Nothing to write home to mom about. The cocktails were ok, standard and a very light pour. Nothing fancy, no big ice cubes (lots of little melting ones making it hard to drink the cocktail) or higher quality garnish which one might expect for the price. Decent wine list. The environment is fine. It appeared clean in the restaurant, the bathroom and outside. Love the lower level lighting and tablecloths. Be careful walking in the second front door, there's a pretty big slope down. Fun history and very genuine, friendly, informative wait staff. Small town feel and quite busy. You can tell folks in the area love it.

Hojo's is the latest iteration of the local bar/cafe/gathering place in Holbrook, previously named…read moreSmitty's, Wayne's (I think), plus some other names over the past 40 years I've been going there, and it hasn't changed too much during that time. During the day it serves as a spot for farmer's to gather and play cards when it rains (and sometimes when it doesn't) and drink coffee in the morning, then quick dinners at noon (note: in this area "dinner" is at Noon, and "supper" is in the evening). It's the only place you can eat in town so you can't be too picky. They have a nice menu of lunch and dinner items, most of it fried or meat of some kind, but a few salads and other things. Frankly the quality of the food mirrors who's cooking at the time, sometimes excellent, sometimes not-so-much-so, but usually pretty good. I think they have a Mexican food night too, and usually a daily special. But it's mostly a bar, even with a little "off-sale" section in the back to buy beer or liquor to go. In the evenings it's again a gathering place for locals, this time primarily to eat, drink, and socialize. While the patrons during the day are mostly older, the younger crowd can come out at night...sometimes. Regardless you may get some long looks when you enter and are unfamiliar, but everyone is always friendly and accommodating when we've visited (having six local brother-in-laws in the early days helped me assimilate a bit but I digress...). It doesn't cost a lot to eat or drink here. You can have dinner for two (sorry - Supper) plus a couple of drinks each for about $30. And if you make some new friends (and you will) you'll probably find you won't owe anything for drinks at the end of the night. It's not the fanciest place around, but it's homey, fun, small town America at it's best, and worth it just to check it out.

Colby, Kansas, March 2026…read more The small restaurant has 10 tables. It It sits on the corner of an antique strip mall. Pretty basic inside the restaurant. The salad bar is located right next to the one and only bathroom. The menu has many sandwiches to choose from. It has fewer entree selections. The waitress was new the night we went. She was nice and extremely helpful. She was an older lady, and I only say that for clarification of the other waitress who had long black hair with ponytail. Tried to get her attention a few times, and even though the restaurant is extremely small, she passed by as if though she did not see us. We ordered the chicken fried steak and the fried chicken. Both came with an ice cream size scoop of mashed potatoes and corn. The potatoes and chicken were covered in a white gravy. The chicken was hot and tender. The mashed potatoes were flavorless as was the gravy. The meals are also accompanied with a roll. Butter is in individual packets on the table. The chicken fried steak was thick and had little breading. It would have been better if it was a thinner pounded steak with more breading as that was more traditional to my liking. When they bring your check, it comes with a warm chocolate chip cookie. Cute idea! The ambience was odd and not welcoming. The location was rather depressing. The food was OK. I would give this place overall 3.5 stars.
