On a road trip back to Minnesota after visiting in the pacific Northwest a stop in Butte is always on the agenda as love looking around the wonderful buildings from an era when the mines were booming And the Finnish food borrowed from the Cornish miners, pasties is a special food that Butte has to offer. This bakery came up a source and arrived just after they opened and a line outside I joined in but to my disappointment they were in stock at the present time. They had breakfast pasties and got four of those. Donuts seemed the big item people were getting but I opted for three Danish pastries The super efficient no nonsense clerk was so fast the line kept moving but she was kind enough to me to take time to answer questions and explain things The Danish were wonderful and so fresh and tasty. A little mixed feelings on the breakfast pasties. They were fine but not my cup of tea i guess. I should have got some donuts as they looked so good. I was sorry to have missed on the real pasties A tiny shop but clean and a nice display area for the baked goods. HUGE pasties packed full of shredded beef, potatoes and onions for under 5.00. The breakfast one were smaller but just as good, I suggest the one with jalapeños. It is cash only but worth the trip to the ATM. We stopped on our way to Chico and loaded up on pasties for the next day, we tried stopping on our way back (they were that good) but small town living means closed on sundays. Not sure why people complain about the cash or check only thing because numerous locally owned businesses in town are that way (Truzzolino's, Shappard's Candy, etc). I don't understand how a place this good is...well, I think it's the cheapest bakery I've ever been to. I've come here, forgotten it was cash only, and then found enough change under my seat to buy everything I came for. This would be much less weird if this wasn't an amazing bakery. Like every other review states, the maple bars are ace. The donuts are great. But don't forget about their cinnamon rolls and brownies...they're all just so good. Everything here is stellar. I'm legitimately curious how they do it. If I had to guess, maybe they depend on large orders to pay the bills - high school coaches buying treats for the team, people bringing donuts into work - as there's never been a real line or anything when I've come (although I've never been here early in the morning). The donuts really are the best around. Nothing like them and don't even compare to grocery store donuts. However, the same woman behind the counter has consistently been rude, unhappy and short. I've given her a few chances because everyone is entitled to a bad day and you never know what someone has going on in their life. I will admit that working customer service (everyone should try it) isn't always easy but fake that smile if you have to and be pleasant! She's been there long enough to know that every single morning is busy. They run out of stuff fairly quickly so it's not like she has to fake excellent customer service all day long. If she's really that unhappy, there are other jobs. One of Butte's local hidden gems deserves better customer service. read more

If you want the world's best maple bar, come here!! People that have traveled through Butte and heard about the bakery thought it was so good, they made a trip just for the maple bars. Literally just the doughnut. Every time we have Company from different cities they always go here for breakfast. When school is out, for Christmas break, it is like a 2 week black Friday in there. The only thing is you have to go there early before all the doughnuts sell out. The reason Town Talk Bakery has 5 star reviews is because it deserves 5 stars. This is an old fashioned, family run business which has survived some serious economic turmoil. They have the best donuts anywhere and that includes Voodoo in Portland. At 70 cents a piece- they are an absolute steal. Two donuts and a large cup of coffee set me back 2.65. This is one of the best bakerys you will every find. Steph will be there to greet you and everything in the place is fresh and the best quality you can find. If your in the market for a cake they have the best ANYWHERE. I just got the full sheet cake last week 1/2 chocolate 1/2 white and what a hit it was and the frosting was the best, it's not to sweet I hape if you've never been there that next time your going down Front St you'll stop in and get a fresh out of the oven maple bar or donut or one of their mouth watering Danish. Their full size pasties are great for a quick dinner or the cocktail pasties are great for a party or reception. And take a peek in the back it's really clean. Go in and buy some of the best baked goods in Montana and support a local business.
