This stand alone community pool features a long pool that goes shallow to deep on the width rather than the length - yes you read that right! This was a first time for me heading to Queen Elizabeth outdoor poor. Located by Kinsmen Park and right on the river valley. Once all the construction is finished by the bridge, I bet that will be a lovely walk in the summer. Pack up for a day out because there is nowhere to buy food. Picnic is a must! There are a lot of nice spots to sunbathe, hide in the shade and sit by the pool. The pool is large but on a sunny summer day be prepared for it to be busy! There isn't a ton of room once in but I do like that they divide the pool up into three sections. One for kids, one for people just floating or swimming leisurely, and one for divers. There were a lot of divers! It made for great people watching. As I mentioned, it's free to go. The door staff just check your bags and make you empty water bottles out before you can enter. The changing facilities and wash rooms are clean and well maintained.

Peter…read moreHemmingway Fitness and Leisure Centre, formerly known as Coronation Fitness Centre, has recently undergone a renovation to include a large built in whirlpool (thank you very much) and overall maintenance. The pool area is 50m, has and wet and dry sauna and a large observation area (accessible from both on and off the pool deck) and is home to the Coronation Triathlon. The large bank of south facing windows lets in amble light and doesn't make you feel like you're sitting in a humid brick cube. The weight room is located in the basement and is rather small, but does suit the bill. This is the first location I started with a trainer a few years ago and holds good memories for me. The change rooms are decent, but if you're working out take flip-flops with you so your feet and socks don't get wet while going through the change room. Tennis courts and a sports field are located just outside is a nice change of pace when the weather is nice. Parking can sometimes be crowded as traffic from comes the arena and school next door. It's a good facility and offers lots of programs for both aquatics and fitness. Because the facility is city run, admission fees are a bit high. But if you purchase a multi-facility pass you can use all of the city rec centres - good bang for your buck.
