It's not my kind of place like as an adult but if you have young children, this is definitely the place to be!

I want to give this place 4 and a half stars because it ain't missing much…read more Prices for drop ins 8$, check! Free lockers, check! Swim suit driers, check! Long, long, deep swimming lanes, check! Cold pool water, check! Diving boards, check! Hot tub, check! Sauna, check! Cold and hot showers by steam/sauna, check! Steam room, check! Lounge areas, check! Skylights, check! Great attitudes at the pool, Life guards and swimmers alike, check! I swear to dog, this is the best pool in the city. I'm a wacko who actually enjoys the colder temperatures of the pool! The only things its missing is higher diving boards and a bigger Sauna/Steam room,( they are always full). And maybe a deeper pool. From my point of view, those are they only things other pools in Etown are doing better.

Peter…read moreHemmingway Fitness and Leisure Centre, formerly known as Coronation Fitness Centre, has recently undergone a renovation to include a large built in whirlpool (thank you very much) and overall maintenance. The pool area is 50m, has and wet and dry sauna and a large observation area (accessible from both on and off the pool deck) and is home to the Coronation Triathlon. The large bank of south facing windows lets in amble light and doesn't make you feel like you're sitting in a humid brick cube. The weight room is located in the basement and is rather small, but does suit the bill. This is the first location I started with a trainer a few years ago and holds good memories for me. The change rooms are decent, but if you're working out take flip-flops with you so your feet and socks don't get wet while going through the change room. Tennis courts and a sports field are located just outside is a nice change of pace when the weather is nice. Parking can sometimes be crowded as traffic from comes the arena and school next door. It's a good facility and offers lots of programs for both aquatics and fitness. Because the facility is city run, admission fees are a bit high. But if you purchase a multi-facility pass you can use all of the city rec centres - good bang for your buck.

This was a first time for me heading to Queen Elizabeth outdoor poor. Located by Kinsmen Park and right on the river valley. Once all the construction is finished by the bridge, I bet that will be a lovely walk in the summer. Pack up for a day out because there is nowhere to buy food. Picnic is a must! There are a lot of nice spots to sunbathe, hide in the shade and sit by the pool. The pool is large but on a sunny summer day be prepared for it to be busy! There isn't a ton of room once in but I do like that they divide the pool up into three sections. One for kids, one for people just floating or swimming leisurely, and one for divers. There were a lot of divers! It made for great people watching. As I mentioned, it's free to go. The door staff just check your bags and make you empty water bottles out before you can enter. The changing facilities and wash rooms are clean and well maintained.

I got there 20 min before they opened and there was already a lineup. There are a few big trees on the grass for shade and lounge chairs in the sun. Grand Trunk Fitness & Leisure Centre - Large shallow water area for swim lessons

Tried to go here yesterday to check out the pool…read more I guess the pool is only open from 6 until 8 pm and early morning times. The fall change over I believe they said. Kind of disappointing. This is one of the only pools in the city I haven't been to. Its on me for not checking the site before I went down. The front counter attendent was nice and polite though. I don't see myself going back.

Surprising this older City of Edmonton facility has a lot to offer. The exterior design definitely…read moreshows the building age but inside it's an awesome retro throw back that doesn't feel dingy like you might expect. I like to take my kids here for swim lessons because it's not overly busy. The pool is fairly large with a large area of shallow water for swim lessons. what's really nice is this sunken area they have as a play place for other kids to play in while their siblings finish a swim lesson. This area has a fair amount of toys as well. The change rooms are definitely the one area where this facility is lacking. They are small and show the age of the facility. The family change room was definitely an afterthought and I give you my sympathy ahead of time if you have to use it. The fitness centre is kinda oddly broken up through out the facility with one larger area that has cardio equipment and weights. Another area that has bikes and free weights and kettle bells, and then another smaller area with various weight machines. I haven't actually used the gym here but the equipment appears to be fairly new and well maintained. Grand Trunk offers a fair amount of scheduled pool activities so if you are planning on just swimming laps I would suggest checking the schedule because if it coincides with a aqua fit class or swim lessons your space will be very limited. There is also a registered message therapist located in the building and the Grand Trunk arena is attached as well. There are two huge parking lots in the front and back of the building and a large green space is available on the east side of the building if you like to do some outdoor activities as well.

Came to the Castle Downs Spray Park today as part of my Yelp quest to find the best of the best…read morespray and splash parks in and around Edmonton. Castle Downs comes in at a strong 4 out of 5 stars. Today was a jam packed Sunday afternoon with so very many options including multiple playgrounds, giant gazebo, skatepark, 2 food trucks - ice cream and a Poutine/burger/fry truck, and the city of Edmonton Green Shack peeps. The Spray park had several zones including a musical piano, spray cannons, and loops of water you can run through. PROS Multiple water and playground zones -something for everyone Washrooms Food trucks Green shacks Huge grass fields/hills surrounding park Ample parking lot City of Edmonton Staff Rubber ground for majority of spray park and playground Lots of swings CONS Too big! So big that it was easy to lose track of my toddler even while playing with him on the playground and in the spray park Zones are not fenced in so if you lose track of your child, they could go missing quickly or wander to the parking lot/road. Close proximity of townhomes attached to the backing grass, again not fenced off, would also make it easy for a child to wander to a residential area. Some people may be thinking, hey watch you kid(s) and yes BUT if you are here with several children (especially toddlers) we all know how fast one can run off while attending to another child. The water cannons shoot water hard enough to nearly knock my toddler off his feet - good for BIG kids but not so great for my toddler and kindergartner Lack of shade - lots of people set their chairs up against the washroom building to try and find shade Very few benches/picnic tables In summary, Castle Downs park has loads of amenities and lots of space but so much so that it felt overwhelming at times and difficult to keep track of little ones. If you have a big kid that doesn't require sight and sound supervision, this may be the park for you! But if you're like me with a toddler and little kid, this park was a little too much for us coupled with a lack of shade or fenced in areas resulting in a solid 4 out of 5 stars. PS - If you are planning on coming here with little ones under 5 - I'd recommend a 1:1 ratio of supervision to toddlers :-)

I booked my daughter in for swimming lessons when the booking opened, no confirmation email came, I went back in and noted one spot taken, but to be safe I booked again still no email, and no additional space taken. I did receive an email asking for feedback on the service right after, not the confirmation email I expected but sometimes wrong emails are sent. After attending this Y location for a period of time I began to feel that something was wrong. I didn't hit the gym as much, the atmosphere was wrong, and I was told that we should know our limits. A gym is to push your limits. To become stronger, to become better than your yesterday. That's when I felt I needed to ask reception to check the lesson booking, there was nothing booked, and nothing available. I will have a disappointed child, and this whole fiasco dysregulated me as my whole schedule has been booked around this lesson time. The NA Y have poor booking systems, I easily booked in lessons in Calgary and many other activities online in other locations. If you are looking to have disappointment head to the NA Ys and you will definitely receive it. I believe it was the manager I dealt with in this situation and his custoner service skills are definitely lacking. I then spoke to a member of the Y team and she handle my cancelling of memberships in a kind and respectful way. I only really got the membership for my daughter and swimming lessons, it was another expense that was dipping into credit but necessary for child mental health. If she doesn't have the swim lessons then I have no need of the membership. I also feel amazingly relieved as I didn't feel comfortable in this Y location.

After working my way through 2 years of nasty grief and health problems and other assorted issues (thanks, pandemic), I was determined to turn over a new leaf and begin really taking care of myself. Over the summer, I began walking around my neighbourhood, but I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it up over the winter. This place is so incredibly close that it fit the bill for contintuing my commitment to fitness. The indoor track is now my second home. I do at least a kilometer each time, and I like that they reverse the direction each day so you get a different view. It also overlooks the activity in the gym below, so you can chuckle at the kids doing karate or playing indoor soccer in the wintertime. There's plenty of exercise equipment. The Lifecycles are great because you can watch TV or internet, and power your usage with your movement. There's the studio where they have all the classes (Zumba, cycle, etc), the gym for basketball, volleyball, etc, and the workout room. Last weekend I got brave enough to try the pool. A little chilly when I got in, but the water was actually pretty warm once I was in a while. The day locker rooms are nearly immaculate. I like that there's a wet and dry locker area, with the handy cords for your locker key that you can put around your wrist while you work out. For an additional price, there are enhanced locker rooms with overnight lockers, towel service, etc. Everyone I've met here, staffwise, has been friendly and approachable. Make sure to wipe down the equipment after you use it. One of these days, I'm going to try out the smoothie bar in the lobby. Can't speak to the daycare or children's programs since I don't have kids, but I've seen all kinds of activities for them in the gym since I've been coming. If I was a parent, I'd definitely consider enrolling my kid in some classes or daycare here.
