Total clowns. Horrible customer service. Scheduled an appt here, b/c I was recommended this spot from a local shop, for a tire repair. The guy who came out looked at the tire like it was an exotic animal and then proceeded to tell me it wasn't repairable. Ok, next step please. I had to prod him to offer up a replacement option and the tire size I needed wasn't available until 2 days out. Soo, I drove across the parking lot to Monro. Decided to purchase General Tires for our 01 Toyota Avalon. Instead of buying from Costco or BJ's because there were more brand choices. And I wanted the four wheel alignment. I waited for the install for 90 minutes which they did inform me of. What I was impressed with was the fact that the alignment went without a hitch on a 25 year old car. And after paying the associate at the Old Saybrook store he filled out the $70.00 rebate form online using my cellphone. read more

Dropped off my Porsche Macan GTS to have summer tires changed for winter tires. I have used this business on two previous cars and I've always received the summer tires in my trunk or backseat of the car to take home with me. In the case of this car, winter car tires were replaced on the car and my daughter picked the car up. No summer tires were in the car trunk. My daughter then handed the phone to one of the employees who told me I didn't specify that I wanted the summer tires back. Having done this twice before, this is assumed and I have never needed to make this request clear. They then found the 4 summer tires and placed all four tires in the car and then told my daughter that one of the tires has a gash on the side and can't be used again. When I spoke with the employee, he stated that this was the condition of the tire when the car was dropped off! This is clearly deceitful as I drove the car to town fair tire that day and there were no issues. The gash is full thickness and it is absolutely ridiculous that they would not take ownership that they damaged the tire on removal from the rim. These summer tires are VERY expensive and I am now down a $600 tire. Incredibly unprofessional. My latest experience with getting tires rotated went pleasantly well, but it's not easy to set up when they can't promise to get this "free service" done without planning to leave the car for a day. I had a drop off time of 7:45 Saturday (or leave it with a key the night before), which was not an appointment and only a promise to get it done before the end of the day. So I took my car in just before 3:30pm Friday, and was quite pleased that they got it done by 5:00 the same day. read more

Fuck this place I went for an alignment on a used car I just bought off of someone who did suspension modifications to it and they told me I needed new tires too so I got them but the whole point was that I needed an alignment and they told me it would be 90 minutes and so I sat and waited 2 hours just for them to tell me that they couldn't align my car because it was too low to get on the lift even though they assured me 3 times it would be fine and I saw it on the lift myself. I couldn't believe it when the guy said that it couldn't be aligned after I shelled them out 700 fucking dollars just for them to not give me what I came for in the first place fuck town fair tire and fuck those bitch ass workers that lied to me I hope they all get laid off never returning read more

I gave the old saybrook TFT the benefit of the doubt 3 times, and all 3 times it bit me in the ass. I replaced the steering rack on my truck, and brought it to TFT in Old Saybrook to have them do a front wheel alignment. When I got my truck back, the steering wheel was cockeyed and the boots on my steering rack were all twisted up. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until I got home, but I turned around and brought it back to them. They couldn't fix it, so they sent me to Oceanside Auto to have them fix it. TFT said they would pay for whatever needed to be done. I definitely appreciate that they tried to rectify the situation. However, after getting the truck back from Oceanside, the steering was still off. My steering wheel was cocked to the right about 1/8 of a turn while going down a straight road. So I called TFT up and they said they would do a free realignment, which I also appreciate. However, I brought it to them (now the 3rd time in 5 days) to do the realignment, and my steering wheel was cocked the left more than 1/8 of a turn when I would drive straight. I got home and noticed that one of the jamb nuts on my steering rack was totally loose, making my truck relatively unsafe to drive. They told me that I also needed a bolt/nut kit to help the caster/chamber of my wheels, which I was aware of. My truck is a dump-run truck, so I am only expecting the steering wheel to align with the direction I am driving. I called the New London TFT after seeing the loose jamb nut and realized that the techs working at Old Saybrook were not doing work with customers' safety in mind. I explained to them what Old Saybrook did to my truck, and they scheduled me for a free appointment that day and fixed what Old Saybrook couldn't. The lesson I learned: avoid Old Saybrook. Just go to new London. It seems like the techs there are a lot more attentive to the vehicles they work on. Not only were they able to adjust my steering, but they got the camber/caster of my wheels within relatively normal range and helped make my truck drive better. Bottom line: avoid Old Saybrook and go to New London. Their attentiveness is definitely worth the wait. I'm just disappointed that I have to drive more than twice the distance in the future for my tire/steering needs. read more

Needed a simple tire rotation. Nothing more. Called them. Asked how much? Was told it's free! (Nothing is free.) Made appointment for following afternoon. I first drive around back and check the bays - all are empty, with a few employees just hanging around. Then I go inside store.Surly guy in a ball cap wants all kinds of info about me and the car. Asks for the keys and says it's be 45 minutes. " I say "45 minutes? For a rotation?" He tells me they're "really busy." Old scam - 'free service" so they can claim you need brakes/rotors/tie rods/ ball joints/alignment and run up a big, phony ticket. I grabbed my keys back and left. Avoid. read more

Went in early on Black Friday to get get a new set of tires. Purchased the tires and left the vehicle to have them installed. I was told to come back just before closing time (6pm) to pick it up. When I went back just before 6pm I was told it wasn't done and it would be midnight. They had overbooked and 2 mechanics had quit. I finally left the store at 9:30pm. DON'T go to this location unless you want to wait forever and hear the f-bomb constantly being used by the entire staff as they laugh and complain about how long the wait is and the fact that everyone hates working there. read more

They may not have enough people in the back to do the work. Double or triple the time estimates they give you. Customer service is hit or miss. It was a simple flat (slow leak) repair. When with an appointment, it took about 2 hours. I was told it would be about 30 minutes. Had to cancel other appointments I had. read more

Look elsewhere. A far cry from what they used to be. Service has gone way down hill, but making matters worse, you cannot trust anything they say (including the store manager Roger). I had been a longtime, repeat customer, but if I cannot trust folks will do what they say they'll do, it's a relationship breaker. I will buy tires elsewhere from now on. Over the years, I overlooked their hit or miss "customer service" because their prices and service, on balance, were good enough ... and they never before gave me any reason to doubt their integrity. That changed today when the store manager told me he'd install an upgraded tire at a discounted price to make up for their 'misdiagnosis' and horrendous service. I checked the tire rating and price and it turns out TownFair installed a mega economy tire and charged more than their competitors charge for the same low-grade tire. Inexcusable. I purchased 4 brand new tires in June of 2020 for kids' car. 6,000 miles later a slow leak in one. My son brought the car on Tuesday. The tech said it was a faulty valve and replaced valve and sensor (at least that's what they claimed they did) for a fair enough price ($38). But overnight the tire still lost pressure (12lbs). My son has a busy schedule, but didn't need the car for the next few days so rather than wait again, he made an appointment and refilled the slow leak daily up until his appointment. He brought the car back at the scheduled time. Despite the appointment, TownFair prioritized walk-ins purchasing new tires. After my son's 3rd inquiry about the wait time and my call asking about the hold up and requesting a call back from the store manager ... 1.5 hours later ... they finally took my kid's car into the shop. This time, my son said he could see on the monitor they did a bubble test (reportedly they did not do this the first time). This time, they said it needed a new tire and as I was speaking with my son, the store manager, Roger, called. I asked Roger about why walk-ins were receiving service ahead of my son and why the bubble test was not done last time? Roger apologized and agreed it should have been done, and said to try to set things right he would install a higher grade tire that normally sells for $100 for $65. Everyone understands mistakes happen and if Roger did as he said he would do, I would not be writing this poor review. When my son returned home with the car, he said they charged him $79. I checked online. TownFair installed a very low grade economy tire competitors sell for $61. So not only did TownFair install a mega economy tire, TownFair charged more than competitors charge. This location is not a reflection on my experience with other Town Fair Tire locations, where I've had good experiences. This one, in particular, is TERRIBLE. They ordered tires for me, I showed up at 8am in the morning to get the install, they ordered the wrong tires, they said the right ones would be in by 2pm, I called at 3pm and they said one was there but the other would be there.... No one called, I called the next day, still no answer on when they'd be there. I call Monday, 5 times, just to talk to someone that can give me an answer. I was hung up on 4 of those times. They finally got me scheduled for the next day, I show up, go to the desk, the guy working there looks at me, doesn't say a word, does a bunch of paperwork, then goes and sits in an office. I have to search the store to find someone to help me. That guy looks it up, walks away and tells someone else to do it. This place is crazy, they just don't care. read more

Went back 3 times they said it was a different reason every time. 4th time he brought the tire back they finally came back out and said a slash in the tire inside tread? Please find a competitor of Town Fair Tire and spare yourself all the headaches and disappointments and $. My wife went in to buy 4 Michelin's and was so repeatedly hawked about getting a different model tire she acquiesced and bought their recommended model and after that having to go twice because they could not get the size right. We Found out Town Fair charged us the price of the tire we wanted for the recommended tire. As well as being ripped off for tire price they also never mentioned a rebate. Michelin offers $70 back on a set of 4 tires. We never saw it. Not the money or a line item on the bill. Guess the wild kids I read about in Town Fair reviews wanted to have a party. We had our 4 tires changed yesterday at Town Fair Tire in Old Saybrook. My husband paid for computer balancing, alignment... everything they recommended for a total of $1073. This morning the car front right side was making a wield noise and was wobbly. We went back to TFT, but told it was a mechanical problem. The mechanic didn't put on lift or check each tire. It got worse as me drove back to Old Lyme. I called Chrysler Jeep in Old Saybrook where the service dept told me not to drive the car and sounds like a tire was loose.We went home slowly and called AAA. I frantically had to find a rental car because my dogs were at the groomers. A mechanic from Mals came as part of AAA towing. He confirmed that the front passenger tire lag bolts weren't tightened and had come off the router. Extremely dangerous and could have caused a fatal accident when going fast on 95. This is extremely unprofessional and when we went back the mechanic from this morning didn't even apologize.Go to ANOTHE TIRE STORE for safer service. read more

I've been to this town fair tire on three different occasions, related to my concerns regarding tires that needed to be replaced. I received immediate attention and felt comfortable asking questions in order to acquire a better understanding of the reasons my car was shaking and pulling to the left. Phil and Laurel were extremely attentive, helpful, and honest. Upon my first visit, Phil went out of his way to assess my tires and explain to me the pros and cons to replacing them on the spot. He provided me a summary of what i would need and a few different options, with pricing. I returned a few months later and Phil remembered the make of my car and even asked about the trip I had taken. When he wasn't available to help, Laurel was immediately available and attentive. These gentlemen went out of their way to accommodate me and provide quick, honest service. Went in very last minute with a tire pressure sensor on. The place was very busy. I had to wait a bit to receive attention, but understandable as they were busy. I eventually was helped by an employee named Earl. I explained that my tire pressure was on and I was feeling nervous to drive an hour to where I had to be and he asked when I needed to be there and I explained I had to leave in 15 minutes. He was very accommodating and helpful, telling me he could take a look quick. He checked my tire pressure and asked me to pull the car around back. He put a little more air in. The sensor didn't go off, but he explained it might take a few minutes for the sensor to reset, but if it doesn't then to come back later and they could help me. The sensor went off not 5 minutes later. Earl was so friendly and accommodating and even though he and his fellow employees were very busy he took the time to help me and that was very nice and just made my day! I was able to drive to west Hartford with peace of mind. Great service! read more

Town fair tires cannot do an alignment on a Ford Superduty CC w/ 8' bed with purchase of new tires. I'm telling you this directly because town fair won't. Call and ask, you'll see what I mean. Full size CC, LB, superdutys are not new. There are millions and millions. They eat tires for snack. That's ok. Town fair must know by now that this truck will not fit on their alignment equipment but still pretend "it might". It doesn't. They think that if they tell the truth it will cost the sale. It might, but lying to me has cost future sales. Here's an idea. Find a nearby truck mechanic that can fit a Crewcab, long bed truck and work out a referral deal. Tell customers that your equipment can't do the alignment up front, but if you buy tires here (SD truck tires are ~$300/ea), so-and-so will charge ___$ and get you aligned. Staff here used to be great. GREAT! Not sure what happened. I've literally purchased 100s of tires here over 15 years. They match online prices. If you set up appointments early, or late, on weekdays it will be on time. They move very quickly to finish late appointments. Alignments are the bottleneck on cars and SHORT trucks so Saturdays get backed up. I used to let them SELL me tires and they knew their stuff. Now I pick my own, get the best online price, call and set appointment for the tires I want. The business changed so maybe there isn't enough commission to retain quality staff. Online bulk sellers are also a good option. You know who I mean. Go pick up the tires yourself instead of getting them delivered. You'll see all the local tire retailer trucks, including TF tire, picking up tires with you ;). I gave them three stars for the long history of good experiences, but that's just sentimental. They're a two-star ** outfit now. I could tell they were pretending to be surprised when my truck didn't fit on alignment rack after paying for tires and alignment. Honesty is best. After arriving at 3 PM was told it was going to take three hours before they could address the flat tire. I would never deal with town fair tire again. had an issue with some tire wear on a pair I had purchased right before COVID started. explained my position and desired outcome. they took care of it no questions asked. re did the alignment so I am happy at the moment. I will return to see how this set wears post install . the only complaint is I had an appointment and the wait time quoted was NOT accurate.
