Apparently this building was named the second ugliest building in the world... but I rather liked it.
Sure it's a bit, erm, 'different', but speaking as a person who's won 2nd place in many a (Monopoly) beauty pageant, I feel confident in confirming that being different is pretty grand.
My advice for anyone visiting Prague is to come here first, before you start exploring the city and make sure you get to the top during daylight hours (though nighttime is mighty impressive as well).
For being the CR, the price to get to the top is up there, but my boo and I didn't regret the 'nominal splurge' one bit. Getting an aerial view of the city will help route your entire trip and shed light on the hidden architecture within this historic city. I think besides the zoo (which isn't totally fair because animals will always win me over), this was my most favorite site and activity in Prague.
We actually went up at night, but discussed coming back and doing it again during the day -- it was that cool. I wish I'd gotten better pics of the exterior or could better describe the size of the giant babies crawling on it (yep, you read that right), so do yourself a favor and Google it for a more accurate take on this tower.
The building itself is admittedly more than a bit gauche, but so am I and I loved every bit of seeing this beast. The various rooms on the 360 degree observation deck were incredible. Some rooms had models, some were similar to an art gallery, and on had these giant spherical clear bubble chairs hanging from the ceiling that you could sit and swing on. Going up at night meant that all the chairs were full with texting teens who seemed to unaware of that fact that there was all this beauty just a stone's throw from their smart phone. read more
