The history of this location dates back to the mid-10th century when it existed as a hill fort, then transforming into several iterations--including a royal castle, a city, then a Baroque fortress--the form of which it maintains today. As for places to visit within the park, the top point of interest is the Bazilika sv. Petra a Pavla (Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul), filled with wall-to-wall Art Nouveau murals as well as Baroque and Gothic art and architectural elements. The cemetery behind the church is crowded with many memorials though beautiful, with a number of famous Czechs buried here. It's free to walk in the cemetery and the church entrance fee is 130 CZK for regular adult entrance, 70 CZK discounted, 250 CZK for families. There are regular masses held in this church. The fortress casemates* are open to visitors, such as Gorlice Hall which is repurposed as a display hall for four of the original statues from the Charles Bridge; Casemates of Podolí are underground corridors that served as air-raid shelters during WWII, and remnants of what used to be a Baroque masonry retrofitted for different purposes throughout the years; Casemates to Redan was completed in the 18th century by the French army and served as an artillery embankment and provides views overlooking the river. Ticket prices vary depending on the specified Casement, regular and discounted prices available. I will mention that not having prior knowledge of these areas prior to visiting the park, it wasn't immediately obvious that these sections were open to visitation. You may need to ask around to the location of these entrances. In the Gothic Cellar are the remains of what used to be part of the palace structures built during the reign of Charles IV, during the second part of the 14th century, then destroyed by Hussite troops in the early 15th century. Used as a small museum displaying Vyšehrad's history and artifacts, this space is currently undergoing renovation and preparations for a new permanent exhibit to open in May 2026. The grounds around the park include paved pathways and raised areas along the walls, there are both disability accessible and non-accessible areas. Vysehrad is now a very large green park which makes for excellent strolling along the fortress walls where you'll get some great views of Prague all around. Its free to wander the park and cemetery, but does cost a reasonable 130CZK/$5.90 to enter the St. Peter & Paul Basilica, where you'll see a more modern contemporary interior with artworks and stain glass windows by Alphonso Mucha.

Food Quality ~ The dishes we had were 3 cakes and a cappuccino. The cappuccino came out super fast, and so did the cakes as they were refrigerated. The dishes were full of flavour and well-prepared. Service ~ The service was horrendous. The staff were the total opposite of attentive, friendly and efficient. When we first entered the café, there was nobody behind the till. This is because the girl on shift was sitting with a coworker at a table meant of customers eating some of the food that was being sold and drinking a coffee. They were laughing and talking obnoxiously in Czech. While we were ordering, the server was hard to communicate with us due to her struggle with English fluency, which is not her fault but just a warning for my English readers. It was quite a shocking experience as the server was quite rude and snappy with her responses as we ordered, which just made us feel uncomfortable and on edge. After we ordered, the coworker that she was gossiping with went behind the counter and started laughing and talking obnoxiously. It was such a shame to experience this, due to the fact the other staff working on attending the tower were lovely! After we finished, the till worker was sitting there scrolling on her phone, listening to obnoxiously loud videos. Right after she turned off her phone. instead of coming over and taking the dirty plates, the worker and her coworker straight up left the complex, leaving the till unattended. As a waitress/café worker, this behaviour is unexplainably ridiculous. Ambiance ~ It was a cold day, especially because the place is on top of a hill, and the heating inside the establishment was comfortable. The café had cute flower decorations, but other then that I'd describe it as just ordinary. Cleanliness ~ During our meal, the worker poured out the tip-jar and spread the coins along the counter which they were laying out orders on. She then began counting the money, which frankly grossed me out because afterwards she didn't wash her hands or wipe down the counter. On top of that, the tables and chairs surrounding us were drenched in crumbs and throughout our dining, no one cleaned it up. It seems to be a common theme, as our plates were simply left on the tables even though we had clearly finished and the staff were in visibly obvious sight. Value for Money ~ The prices are just meh. They're not too overpriced, not too cheap, just meh. Overall Experience ~ The only memorable part about our dining experience was the horrendous service and delicious cakes. Will NOT be going here again. The server just had an unacceptable attitude and it disgusted me. Do NOT dine here if a short woman with dark eyes and black hair with straight bangs is working, this is a warning! The only reason I'm even giving this place any stars at all is because of the taste of the food, however wouldn't recommend. You can go to a cheaper place with much more comforting and welcoming staff.

Karmelitska will turn into Ujedtz Street and you'll see the park on the right. You will have to go in to buy tickets for the funicular or you will have a rough time walking that long & steep hill. It is 60 korunas/120 round trip. The lookout tower also costs money & the lift was not working that day so it was a very long and tiring climb up 208 feet. Take lots of pictures on the first level since the top is enclosed. There is a separate staircase for going up and one for coming down.

There are many levels of the gardens. Adorned by lots of stairs, tons of flower beds, sculpture gardens, and overlooks. There is a lot to see, so have your walking shoes on. Very well maintained, tranquil, and picturesque. Lots of places to take snaps of the city, views up the hill towards the castle grounds, and down to the river, Charles Bridge, and Old City. What a lovely place! Prague was super amazing, and this little gem was definitely a solid find and great place for an intimate wedding too!

When I was here there were some people taking wedding photos, so proves it is a beautiful place. *You do have to pay a small fee, but l think it's worth it. I got some lovely views of Prague here, and it was nice to have some views of the city from a different perspective. Good to note although this is a garden, there aren't many flowers here. But the grounds are still exceptionally beautiful. If were to visit again, l would bring a book and a snack and take the time to enjoy myself here. Friday through Sundays are free concerts by local musicians. A smaller farmers market of wineries, breweries, and food purveyors setup to sell food and drink...a lovely way to spend the evening away from the mass crowds. The crowd seemed to be mostly locals! You might see some local swans...but most importantly in the afternoons you'll see the invasive but ridiculously cute species of Nutria roaming around the waters. They look like small capybaras or beavers...so adorable! Technically they are disease carrying rodents and the city government discourages feeding them, but some locals fed them apples and leaves. Try to resist!
