Petrin Park is basically Prague's Central Park - its on a big hill below Prague Castle overlooking the river. The park is huge and well served by public transport - the tram stops at the base and there is a funicular that takes you to the top using metro tickets/passes.
Once in the park there are innumerable walking & hiking trails, places for children to play, lawns to sunbathe on, a botanical garden and an observation tower. The tower can be climbed for small fee and kind of looks like the Soviet version of the Eiffel Tower.
My favorite part is in the "center" of the park - midway up the hill or at the 1st funicular stop, there is charming cafe. You can buy snacks and drinks and sit on the terrace overlooking the river and the city. We stopped in late afternoon and enjoyed the setting sun with a (very, very good!) $8 bottle of Bohemian Sekt or champagne. It was so romantic that we came back our last day to bid farewell to a majical city.
If you're in Prague, a visit to this park should be on your list. read more
