Boulet à la liégeoise - as the name suggests, it's the ball in the Liege...The city's original…read moredish. I was in town on business just for a half day, stopped here for lunch. What else could I have when a server said this is the traditional dish from Liege. I am all about trying local food whenever possible.
Server spoke some English, mostly French. I ordered a bottle of still water, she served a glass with ice cubes in it. It was actually the first time anyone served ice in a cup when I ordered still water in Europe. I was getting used to have water without ice by then, I didn't know what to do with ice (it was cold outside on the day I visited). I think she didn't know how to ask if I wanted ice with my water in English, so I think she just assumed all American wants ice with drink? I really didn't want ice but yet I didn't know how to ask her politely to take back the ice in French.
Boulets Liegeois was actually very good, and I enjoy my lunch very much. It was served with fries. Meatball was soft and melts in my mouth good. I never had a liege ball before and I don't have anything to compare against but what they served was very good, I wished for their recipe.
Restaurant inside including bathroom was clean. They have nice patio, I thought it would have been nice to sit outside on a warm sunny day.
While I was searching how to spell this dish correctly online, I found this... I didn't scream as I ate but when I saw this article, it was a moment I realized I have so much to learn about this region.
