Times were good on this walking tour (the dumpling variety), with some awesome street art and four…read moredifferent dumpling cuisines! Firstly, the logistics: Meeting at 2:30pm was a great time of day to start the tour, meant the weather was nice and sunny for the 2.5 hour duration, and our tour guide, Karen, was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The walk was a bit strange at first as I knew the area of Gouger Street quite well and noticed we did a full circle to our original starting point before moving on again to the second dumpling point, however perhaps this is to accommodate the street art aspect of the tour. Secondly, the street art: Karen definitely knew her stuff! All these amazing works of art that I hadn't previously noticed, or knew much about, became so much more interesting with a little background knowledge. For example, there were some little themed tiles left above street signs on brick walls, I had never seen them before! Such an eye-opener of a tour in regards to the skills of these amazing artists. Thirdly, the dumplings: The first dumpling option completely shook up everything I thought I knew about dumplings (turns out it just means filling surrounded by some sort of pastry, what a fool I was). The Russian Piroshki was delicious, involving a savoury donut dough with a warm filling, such as potato and leek or spinach and feta. Moving on, the second option was Japanese Gyoza, a fried meaty dumpling that I have eaten many times and wasn't disappointed with! The third option was two large plates of Steamed and Fried Chinese pork and cabbage dumplings. This serving really filled us up, even with the walk to the next venue. Luckily Karen informed us that at the Vietnamese venue we could choose to try the steamed buns or a Viet iced coffee if we were too full. I was told that the steamed buns were great, but I was definitely happy with my sweet iced caffeine! All in all, a good time and recommended if you want to try something different!

You will not go hungry and the walking in between venues permits digestion. Accompanying the dumpling education was an education on street art. It was interesting but I'm not sure about the fit between the two. Also, at some street art venues, it was difficult to hear our tour leader. I love the concept of doing a tour in your hometown - a staycation- and it is good value for money. I'd recommend it to others, particularly if you are a fan of street art

As a whole, the Adelaide Central Markets is a medley of history and taste, family and choice. For me it is a "Wow!" This was also my second visit in a year. Not everything is a gold star here, but most things are. With trepidation and excitement, explore with my blessing. I have also reviewed individual stalls here too. I'm writing this review purely for selfish reasons. I want to encourage Tom to run more wine hikes…read morein Adelaide! Initially I thought wine and hiking in Adelaide go together about as well as running the City to Bay with beer stops along the way instead of Gatorade. But I am a convert. Not only that I am now a raving fan. Tom from Head in the Clouds wines has taken this concept from his passion for hiking and wine and smooshed it together like a good grape crush. You start at "base camp" over the first wine tasting for the morning and proceed to not only hike a summit but stop and drink different SA wines and varietals from some of Tom's favourites along the way. Everyone is encouraged to bring some snacks for sharing along the way and the whole 3 hours turns into one big progressive wine tasting. This is such a refreshingly unique concept which showcases wine, SA's landscapes and naturally creates a bond between you and those walking with you. Our tour did go overtime by an hour or so, so it was a long day and you will want to allow time to take it all in. You will also want to have a fairly good level of fitness to enjoy something like this as the hikes (although short) were steep, but it did leave us with a spectacular view over Adelaide that you wouldn't otherwise get. This was the first of (hopefully) many tours, all I have to do now is try and convince Tom to host more over Summer and Autumn. Feel free to join in my petitioning!

Another outstanding day delightfully enjoyed by all - generally superb wines to taste (there was one only which was best described as "interesting"), scrumptious picnic foods and snacks, fabulous scenery and a lovely group of interested and like minded devotees of life's simple pleasures. Head in the Cloud Wine Hikes are so special - Tom is an energetic, enthusiastic and slightly hyper winemaker/curator who loves wine and hiking. Do yourself a favour and get on board for the next one or two - even better drag some out-of-towners along and dare to reveal another of Adelaide's truly wonderful hidden gems.

Are you interested in learning about South Australian history? Do you just like boats? If you like…read moreone of the above mentioned, you will like the tour of The Clipper. What an amazing ship! It took a long time, a lot of dedicated people and a whole lot of money to get her back to Australia from Scotland. So, it's worth going to have a look. The ship was used to take the first colonist from England to South Australia. It could fit up to 300 people onboard and was one of the fastest ships to get you here. It was like a jet of ships. I wont tell you anymore of the history side of things, you can learn more about it when you go on the tour. It is a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. Good headroom inside of the cabin areas as well. Especially in comparison to other ships I have been on. So, I think that passengers had it pretty good on this ship. What is truly amazing is looking at the construction of the ship. All the materials, design and hard work to make it such a solid structure. No wonder it lasted so long. Take note of what the tour guide tells you when s/he explains the materials and processes. What I really do want to say about The Clipper is that you have to admire the hard work of all of the volunteers in looking after this girl and restoring her. It is so important for us to learn about how Australia came to be what it is today. And this is just one part. It is truly a piece of history that I hope continues to survive for generations to admire and day dream about. What was it like travelling on this vessel to a new unknown land? One thing is for sure, the people that travelled on this boat were really brave!
