I went with some friends for an intro to Bungee class and it was really well done and a lot of fun! The instructor was friendly and clearly had a well thought out plan to teach us the different methods. And wow it was a good workout - and a lot of laughs!! I personally don't love jumping around a ton but several of my friends plan to go again, and we'll definitely be checking out the aerial silks classes. I think that is more my speed! read more

I can officially say I've had my first (and tbh probably last) bungee fitness class. The studio is nice and spacious, I like how they have drinks and snacks! Instructors were nice though our class instructor could've given a little more specific instruction. Like she taught us the moves well but didn't give us clear indicators of when exactly we were starting our little routine each time or from what portion of the routine we were starting at. But everyone seemed to be able to catch on! I think the harness probably just takes some getting used to, it was very uncomfortable. I am still definitely glad I checked it out though! read more

Going through my beginner bungee workout class made me feel like I was one of the martial artists flying through the bamboo forests in that film Crouch Tiger, Hidden Dragon. My husband said it looked more like Matrix type training, but regardless, my friends and I had an absolute blast! Emily was our instructor and with a dancer's background, she made our "flight" very graceful and fluid and it certainly tested our core staying upright and hips strong! The harnesses are basically rock climbing harnesses but backwards and the bungee cord is attached onto back loop (typically the front loop while rock climbing). Once you're "in," you feel like you have a bit of a wedgie going on, but you soon forget about it once you get moving. This class is great for low impact, but medium to high cardio workouts. It's definitely fast paced, but the repetition really helps all the routines and movements are like second nature by the end of the 75 minute class! They are good about recording the choreographed mini routine at the end just so you have some memories to cherish or build on before returning! I highly recommend Tough Lotus! There's none like it so far in Arizona or country so I am told, so we are lucky to have such a great opportunity to do bungee fitness here! Chandler is a far drive for me coming from Peoria but I wouldn't mind hitting it up again for some of the both regular and more advanced classes now. For people close to the gym, they also offer aerial yoga! I love this place! read more

Come ye one and all - Exercise and socialize - This is the Burlesque (and Bungee and other classes) of your actual dreams! Seriously, absolutely and I do mean absolutely NO matter your dance level or health point, somehow we all flow together beautifully, you'll get "the feeling" 15 minutes in from the very first class, and it will stay with you. Tough Lotus fosters a genuine sense of down to earthness and camaraderie. Even if you are a loner, you'll enjoy the atmosphere so much, and you'll be enjoying your body (really!) so much you'll rarely look in the mirror or at anyone else, except to proudly applaud yourself and them. It's truly a place for promoting real self positivity - Lol, I've never stayed so continuously in any fitness class, nor been inspired to do multiple classes at any gym, the way Tough Lotus inspires you to do. Overall, great fun and very do-able and my body, after an extended illness and several years of much forced immobility, is actually learning to move in co-ordination with itself, and enjoying stretching and movement in a fantastic way. No fancy clothing needed, you can go tired at the end of the day to close it out beautifully, or wide awake to burn off excess energy, either way, you'll be in a perfect state of mind during and after. Cherie leads the class/es with ease and intention (and a delightfully saucy irreverence), specifically promoting an environment of total inclusivity and balance throughout the studio, which clearly shows within all the various classes, and together, Cherie and Bailey are the consummate teaching duo - lots of good humor, laughter and waddya know...dancercizing! What I especially like at Tough Lotus, along with the welcoming atmosphere, is the emphasis is on "being" fit as opposed to "getting" fit, which for me, has been a godsend. Beginner or advanced, I love the mixed levels in each class, as it's very easy to work at your own pace and everyone learns from each other. If you are looking for that elusive body-health and mental-health mind meld, often advertised but rarely met, look no further...You'll be part of a great group of varied ages, interests and body types that seriously enjoys each other, and makes the (body) movement happen. Also, just a note: don't be cowed (as I initially was) by the idea of either the Burlesque class or the Bungee classes. All teachers (Cherie, Bailey, Ariel and Sahara) are great, and interested in helping you grasp the basics. Both classes are very definitely a great workout, and yet tremendously easier than you expect, and will get your body easily moving in ways you've always hoped. I practice yoga regularly and I wanted to try something different from my regular routine. I came across this place on Groupon and I couldn't wait to try this place. The studio is very accessible, it's clean and maintained very well. I was really happy and impressed on how well it was organized. There were ropes and hammocks hanging and one could tell it is aerial fitness It was the first time I was trying and the instructors were really sweet and were helping us out every minute. They guided us through the class and before you realize one would be dripping in sweat. I would highly recommend this place to get a change in the way you work out. Not sure how to review a business that you can't get a hold of. Phone number rolls to an outgoing message that says "send a text". No response. Sent an email, no response. Drive to the business during a timeframe when Google says that it should be open. The business is closed. No note on the door indicating business hours. So frustrating! When I quit smoking in January this year (10 years at a pack a day) I became... Uhhhh...pretty fluffy. I tried casually getting back into the exercise/healthy eating game, but I found that I really needed something that made me actually WANT to get off the couch. That's how I found Tough Lotus. As an ex-serious-gymnast, I need something that I can work towards getting better at that also incorporates large amounts of flexibility, fun, and hanging upside down. This place is perfect for that, with both the aerial yoga type classes and the super unique bungee fitness. Both types of classes completely work every aspect of your body and leave you wanting to get better and better. There are even advanced bungee classes for when you get good at the basic bungee (I'm not there yet but it looks awesome). Since these classes fulfill all my needs, they were exactly what I needed to start getting back in shape and get into a less sedentary rhythm in my life. Now I use Tough Lotus classes to complement my "regular gym" workouts, and let me tell ya, there are few things in life that feel better than getting tangibly better at this. The first few classes (especially aerial ballet, tough tone, and bungee fit) will seriously kick your ass, but you will start to get the hang (hehe pun intended) of the moves and your muscles that you forgot existed will grow much stronger. I've been going here for a few months now and it has helped me lose 16 pounds and gain SO much more strength. Thank you, Tough Lotus! read more

I've taken two intro classes at Tough Lotus in the past few months. My first class was intro to bungee. The class class starts with a warm up then the class learns about the harness, it gets adjusted by staff, and some moves are introduced.They looked really fun and I couldn't wait to get started. The class moves swiftly. The instructor I had was a dancer and the music was upbeat. About 10 minutes into the class we were doing these fun drops to the floor. Wow! That first one was really fun and I did another. OOPS. My hands were not in a good position and I jammed my thumb pretty badly. I'm sharing this story to demonstrate the GREAT customer service I received from the owner, Amanda. A couple of days later, I emailed from their website and lo and behold I got a very quick reply from Amanda. I asked if the second bungee class could please be applied to another class. She was so, so accommodating and I could tell the tone in her email was sincere and sympathetic. She recommended an intro to aerial class for me which I took her up on this past weekend. Based on her very nice responses, I decided to invite a few friends along for the fun. The five of us had so much fun! Amanda (owner) led the class and she was great. I thought I couldn't do one of the moves and she was encouraging and gave kudos when I did it! I often have self-doubt when it comes to working out, especially in new ways, but this place is unique and makes trying new things fun. I can't believe I was hanging upside down and having fun. The staff helped with everything I struggled with. I am newly retired and so you can infer from that, that I'm not a youngster. Here, I feel welcome and supported. I love Tough Lotus and will be back. Retirees need fun! Not super clean, I get normal wear and tear but you have a business and I'm sitting on your couch. You can be cluttered and clean vs. cluttered and not clean. Floors are dirty, not swept, foot tiles are not even foot tiles. Cheap af. Dirt EVERYWHERE. They film you at the end, , without giving you the option and it sucks. Ruins the whole experience. I got started at this studio with a Groupon. I have taken the requisite Intro class with the owner Amanda as well as the three classes that were part of the Groupon. I chose Aerial Stretch. The classes and the instructor (Elise) were fantastic. Since my introduction ; I have now signed up for a 20 class package. So far, I have taken the Aerial Stretch ( you will feel like a pretzel) ; the Cardio Swing ( you will sweat a lot!) and a Tough Core class ( oh my!). I find that the studio staff is friendly and the studio clean and inviting. Elise has been my primary instructor and has made modifications based on my challenges. I would highly recommend Tough Lotus as a fun way to exercise! read more

They have classes that help with flexibility, stretching, cardio, dance, etc. I am so in love with aerial fitness now because they made it easy and fun! I signed up for Bungee too and bought classes to try that. In Feb, they're having a deal that's buy one get one half off for their Bungee classes so it is a great deal! I came here with some family last week and it was a lot of fun! We did the intro to bungee class and had fun jumping around. The whole time I felt like a baby in one of those toy jumpers. The instructor was great and the atmosphere was fun. I was just a little underwhelmed with the workout, I was expecting it to be a little more intense, but the whole time I barely broke a sweat, so if you're looking for something to really get you working, this intro class probably isn't right. I think maybe some of the more advanced ones are more work, but since it is only an intro class a lot of it was just getting used to being on a bungee cord and learning some of the moves. The only other negative was that it was painful. You wear a harness to attach to the bungee and essentially your entire body weight is all resting on those two straps on your groin and let me tell you--that sh*t hurt like a mother hecker!! It left me with a razo burn-like rash for a couple of days afterwards. Like I said, it was a ton of fun but I'm not sure I'll try anymore bungee classes because of how painful it was. I'd love to try one of their aerial fitness classes though! read more

This was my first time visiting Tough Lotus and it was a great experience! I had signed up for an 8am Basic Bungee class with Turiya, and it was such an awesome class! Amanda and Turiya were both there and they were more than helpful. I felt very comfortable and welcomed as a first time visitor of this studio. The Bungee class was fun and challenging. There was a lot of stretching in the beginning, which is necessary and good for someone with a lack of flexibility like myself. They teach you everything you need to know, and you pick up the pace as time goes on. I definitely underestimated how tired and sweaty I would be by the end of it! Great workout! read more

Unfortunately I cannot give this place any stars because our instructor did not show up for our reserved Bachelorette party of 15 people. We attempted to reach the instructor over the course of the hour however we were unsuccessful. We are very disappointed because this was supposed to be the highlight of our party. I'm so glad I finally walked though the doors into Tough Lotus. After loosing 40 pounds and being stuck at a plateau, figured now was a better time then ever to try something new. Man, I am so inspired my Amanda and everything they have going on at this studio. The aerial classes have been sculpting and shaping muscles I didn't even know existed or could start to look this good. The bungee is a great cardio workout that's so much fun. I attended my first bungee fitness class a few nights ago and had a blast! Our teacher was upbeat and fun. She seemed very knowledgeable in what she was doing, which made me feel comfortable trying the class for the first time. I really enjoyed the class since I have a dance background, it took me right back to the old days! It was wonderful! You break a sweat without killing your body. You are definitely soar after your first class, but I was told you get use to it. The only down side are the prices. The other ariel classes are cheaper, so they give you a deal when you buy classes in bulk, you dont get that much of a deal when buying a package for bungee. I would sign up for more classes and go regularly, if they were more affordable. Other than the prices, I would recommend giving it a try. It's a fun way to workout and meet new people. read more

I have been attending classes at Tough Lotus since it opened. Being a fitness instructor and personal trainer, I am always on the lookout for a new activity that will compliment my regular workout. My experiences at Tough Lotus have been nothing less than extraordinary! Marnie has designed a workout that is excellent for any age group, and any fitness level. She is very precise with her instruction, and is happy to leave her place at the front of the class (where everyone can see her) to assist those who need that little extra "oomph". Tough Lotus's location is awesome-not far from the 101 Freeway. Tons of parking, a huge plus! The studio itself is light and airy, very laid back and welcoming (not full of cold machines and hard core sales people a la corporate gyms). The workout itself is amazing. My muscles were worked in area that standard weight training cannot touch! It does take more than one class to really reap the benefits (I have chronic back pain, which has disappeared, thanks to the spinal decompression the swings provide), and for your body to get used to being upside down. Once you are used to the sensation, it is absolutely LIBERATING. You establish a mind-body connection on a whole other level, and let's face it-one does feel pretty bad ass using their own muscles to invert in a silken swing! I always leave class feeling completely blissed out, stress-free and happy! read more

I sleep better. I feel amazing. My back is so grateful. Tough Lotus classes have helped with stretching my back, all my other muscles, helped with my balance and no kidding it actually help me sleep better. It's mind blowing what regular inversion can do for a body. I didn't notice until after I missed going a couple of times and then picked the classes back up. This is hands down the best low impact high result workout. I've being going since it opened and the Every Tough Lotus and Balance Lotus classes I've done have been different each time and I really appreciate the diversity of the workout in every class. I tell everyone with any back discomfort to at least check it out and see for themselves that I'm telling the truth. I bought the Groupon and took my first class 2 weeks ago. I had no difficulty signing up by following the directions on both the groupon and the website, but i did hear a few people thanking the instructor for helping them to sign up. I am not a physically fit person, nor am i flexible in any way. I was able to follow our incredibly friendly and energetic instructor without any problems! She corrected us if we were lost, and offered easy to harder options for nearly every workout. If i had to stop or take a break, i didn't feel bad for it. My second class had the same wonderfully friendly atmosphere. It did move a bit faster, but Marnie was still wonderful with us newbies (and there were a few of us! ) I plan to bring many friends this month as well as buy more classes. It's quite a fun option for fitness and I'm excited to get flexible and strong with their help! read more

My friend and I had arranged to meet up at the Intro to Aerial Fitness class one morning thinking it was going to be a silly fad exercise. I showed up - sadly, my friend did not. She missed out. As a yoga practitioner for several years I love a good stretch - what impressed me about aerial fitness is that the moving hammock allows you to stretch on the deepest possible level. By the end of class I knew I wanted to get a package, so I could try the Tough Lotus class. Marnie and Ashley are amazing instructors and athletes. The moves we do in this class are extremely challenging and efficient in that all muscle groups are engaged at once. I am stronger and more flexible now than when I started. It has now become my Saturday morning ritual and I look forward to it immensely. read more

Tried this as a Living Social deal and totally not what it claims to be. Not impressed at all. They say this is something anyone, even people not in great shape can do, but that is totally untrue. The swings were too high off the floor so when you hop to get in you often slip out the other side. The swings are also too close together so when, as a begineer with limited control, you start to sway, you slam into the people all around you. The swings are also VERY uncomfortable, in an uncomfortable material, so when you do a move that involves (for example) placing the swing bunched up under your tail bone and leaning back for so many minutes, it really really hurts your tail bone. And, if you are not in good shape, good luck getting back up again without flipping backwards on your head to get out of the swing. Then there is the Absolute Nightmare of a scheduling system they use...it never EVER works. You have to schedule online, and if you are using a voucher, forget it...it will take several follow-up emails to get it fixed because the system they use is improperly developed and does not operate correctly. They also changed the schedule two weeks after selling us the vouchers so there were no longer any times convenient to attend. We were pretty excited based on the claims, and very disappointed in what is really offered. read more

I have been coming to Tough Lotus for about 3 months now and I LOVE IT! I have noticed my strength and flexibility improving steadily along the way. I appreciate that Marnie (the instructor) tries to mix up the classes and keep them fresh and challenging. It can be tough when you may have a class which is half first timers and half veterans to strike a balance. I would recommend beginners try the balanced class which focuses more on stretching and learning the moves vs. strength. Those up for a challenge should try tough lotus which incorporates more lunges, push ups and variations to really make you find all those little muscles you had forgotten about. You will sweat...its ok. :-) I certainly struggled through the first time trying to figure out the logistics of how to hang upside down and work with the fabrics, but if you stick with it you may find yourself enjoying a really unique and fun workout. read more

I went on a Groupon and tried three classes: the mandatory intro class, balanced lotus, and tough lotus. The three classes were pretty similar, except that the intro class had a sales pitch and the tough lotus class incorporated a flexible pole for resistance training. The hour-long class had the same structure as any other yoga class, the instructor remained in front and talked the class through/demonstrated the poses; students followed at their own pace. It was private and non-judgmental, although the instructor would step in if someone was doing something dangerous. Most of the class was spent doing standard yoga poses: forward folds, lunges, twists, standing splits, planks, hero's pose, etc. The hammock was used for support, kind of like a ballet bar. Towards the end of each class we would do a full inversion and hang suspended for a few minutes. It was probably the best way to practice a handstand outside of actually having a partner there holding your feet. Savasana was done either in the hammock or on the floor with feet elevated in the hammock, both versions were super relaxing. The studio itself was nice: cool, low lighting, quiet part of the shopping center. The instructors were professional and friendly. The hammocks were well-maintained, and were switched out/washed between classes. Yoga mats were provided for people who didn't bring their own. I'm not very flexible, so the idea of supported yoga really appeals to me. But, I think I would have to do this several times a week in order to see any real improvements, and at $12.40 per class it is a little out of my price range. If the Groupon price (~$8) was the regular price or if I could buy a 1-month pass for say, $60, I would be all over it! I will keep an eye on the Tough Lotus website, and hopefully I will be able to come back soon. read more
