So much to explore, Total Wine and More! It's true, if you are into beer, wine, or hard liquors, this is your kind of establishment. Located at the Capital Mall, Total Wine is a liquor superstore. On weekends, they offer tasting sessions of new release liquors, kinda like the demos at Costco, though you cannot keep going back for more. The staff is generally knowledgeable and the selection can be overwhelming for the uninitiated. If unsure, ask an associate. Prices are very reasonable, and this place is great for adult gift giving. If you would like to know a little or a lot about about spirits and wine, do yourself a favor and try to catch Charles. Charles is a great educator who has that intuitive ability to adjust his frequency to his audience in order to effectively convey information through his knowledge mastery, passion and life experiences that "Googling" or "AI" cannot replicate (any time soon at least). Checking out and purchasing was also a memorable positive experience as Shenie was genuinelly personable and helpful with her products suggestions that paired well with my purchase selections and making sure I wasn't missing anything. I rarely comment directly on other people's comments, but to the Bridezilla's relatively recent July review, there is no excuse for mucking up an order and I certainly hope they discounted your order to make it right, but creating a Yelp account soley to give a 1 star review for not fullfilling 1 out of the 7 cases of ginger beer is a bit harsh in my opinion. I did try delivery once but will never do that again, the door dasher wanted to take a pic of my WDL...hell no. So doordash sucks but TW&M are awesome and that is another story all together. So unless you are okay with a stranger photographing your license i would just do pick up. They get it right and it is super convenient. I can get the goods same day most 9f the time, park in the front row, call in or use the app and let them know what parking spot I am in and they are on it!! Likity split they are rolling out with the hooch. Check my id and load me up...never takes more than 5 to 10 minutes tops and I am on my way. If you go in they are very helpful and knowledgeable about the products. They must have employee tastings regularly because they know their merchandise. We called multiple times to check on our order over the last month and they said it would be there, they were even talking to other stores to fulfill the order, or so they claimed. I am venting my FRUSTRATION. A few hours ago, my 24 year old daughter was denied her purchase because her 20 year old sister was with her. Your policy states that minors are allowed in the store accompanied by an "adult guardian of legal drinking age" except for the state of Indiana where no minors are allowed in the store at all. My 24 year old has a valid Washington state drivers license listing her DOB: 10/31/2000. She will be vacationing back to her second home in Hawaii and we requested she bring back some products from Total Wine as we don't have a store here. Thank you to Amanda (manager on duty) that embarrassed her and wasted her time at your store. Amanda, you obviously need to go over your company policy and learn it all over again. In addition, I had tried calling your store multiple times so I could personally get this off my chest but no one bothered picking up. Customer service here is extremely way below average. I will not be returning to this location ever. Today I was racially profiled while shopping at this location. As you walk into the store there are the mini liquor bottles so I decided to grab a few. LITERALLY EVERYONE stopped there because there were some interesting flavors. My party and I walk around the store and get whatever else we were looking for. As we check out the security guy walks over to my line, ignores everyone else he passes because we are on the last isle, counts the mini bottles, again he ignores all of the isles on his way back, proceeds to go back to his station. I ask the cashier what his deal was and she proceeds to tell me that their store has had some serial shoplifters as an excuse to why he was scrutinizing my merchandise....I call bs. No one else in the store received the same attention and I'll add that we were the only brown individuals on the premises. EVERYONE stopped at that mini stall. I stopped by here this morning and the entire staff could not be bothered by customers. I watched them following and harassing every person in the store and not trying to help any of them. I'm used to the employees here being curt, but this was a new level of unprofessional. The culture at this store seems to be abysmal, their selection is great but honestly I would be on guard walking in here -- no one in this business is your friend. Updated to include reply to comment below: your employees were blocking all the aisles while stocking with ladders, carts and the like, but refused to acknowledge me or my friend. Not one word. They didn't adjust their work flow in the slightest and then followed my friend while they browsed the store as the cherry on top. I understand that your store is attempting to reduce shrink but your profits will take the hit first. Cashier's tone was wildly inappropriate to boot. I wish I could say I'm surprised but this is a reoccurring experience at this location. I will let you be the judge but here is my story of why I will never shop at this location again. I went to total wine and more to purchase some of my favorite Cognacs. Long story short, these 4 bottles that I have purchase had a total cost of $11,200 (not including sales tax which is ridiculous in Washington State). The sales rep said they needed to check if they had it in stock (which eluded me to think a lot of people come by these $300 and $350 bottles of spirits). The rep came back and said they had my bottles and will hold them at the register when i am ready to check out. When i went to check out, the rep asked me if i wanted a box and i said sure. When the rep came back, they were followed by a person with a white shirt whom I assumed (and was right) was the manager. He looked at me and they turned their backs to me and TRIED to whisper amongst each other. I head the manager "whisper" make sure you check his ID and the card he intends to pay for it with. Frustrated with the comment I responded, "first, I can hear you! Second, I've bout many things out of this store before and never had my ID checked." The manager didn't even make eye contact with me and pretended to stare out the window into the parking lot. the Sales rep addressed my statement with, "well, since this is a large purchase, we have to validate the payment." I knew this was BS because I have made just as large purchases before and never had that issue. So I asked her, "what if i decided to pay cash?" and the rep had nothing to say. Them manager walked away and I could see the frustration and silent "I'm sorry" look on the reps face. I felt racially profiled and embarrassed. I have shopped at the other Total Wine and More in Tacoma, not to far from where I live and never had an issue with them. Its just a little further from where I live compared to the Olympia location. I will make the drive and shop over there versus going to the Olympia location from now on. I hate to be this way towards the other friendly staff members that I have met at the Olympia location, but in 2024, to still racially profile someone is more than over the line for me. read more

Huge place, but with COVID19 infecting people in our state I decided not to go. I found out that they let Instacart Deliver to your doorstep!!! So, I put in an order. With COVID19, they are having a tough time getting delivery drivers at instacart, so the order did get punched out a couple of times, but they got it correct and the products are top shelf. I was very impressed with the selection of beer here, and if your a wine drinker (Which Im not) then this is a must stop as they have a awesome selection of wine and a very good selection of hard alcohol. The other thing I liked- UNLIKE BevMo and not allowing single sales for bottles that came from six packs, They had no problem here in allowing you to break the 6 packs so can have a single bottle. (I dont want to buy a 6 pack or more of whatever if I've never tried it before) The Customer service here also UNLIKE Bevmo was real good and friendly, so overall was VERY pleased with this place and would highly recommend them! read more

We have been in this store several times. We are repeat customers. Their selection of non alcoholic beverages is wonderful. This fits my husband and I's needs perfectly. Even better if our friends and older kids need anything it's one stop shopping as they do enjoy the regular beer and alcohol spirits. The staff have always been very friendly and helped each time we have had a question. I keep seeing a few individuals making rude comments and leaving awful reviews. I'm sorry but I just have not seen it. I too am "brown" and have never been profiled in this store. The thought is ludicrous considering the vast cultural diversity among the employees. I think people might have a chip on their shoulders. Get over it and be happy. Everyone is just trying to do their best. The store is trying to keep their loss down. Good for them ! I love Total Wine. This location is OK in terms of craft brew selections, but only because it is a smaller store (compare to the giant one in Tukwila). However, I have not had a problem finding those random, rare beers that I love. They also seem to be good at rotating selections, since there are new types and brands every time I visit. I think that the best thing about this store is the 25 beers on tap. Yes, 25. And they rotate, which is amazing as well. The kind of fancy tap system they have here doesn't allow for tasting, but apparently preserves the taste of the beer longer. Sometimes I have a hard time finding a beer that I want on tap, but only because I despise IPA's and anything that tastes like battery acid. They carry predominately IPS's on tap, but they seem to be rotating more non-IPA's which I approve! Anyway, this is your go-to place for beer and wine. They have all of the most random specialty brews and vinos at an amazing price. The liquor selection is pretty good too, but I refuse to buy liquor in Washington, so I don't spend any time in those aisles. Probably the worst customer experience I've ever had. I came here to exchange a keg for my kegerator. I got the empty keg with the kegerator from a private sale so that it could be swapped for a fresh one as the deposit. 1 for 1 swap, that's how a deposit works so you don't pay the $45 deposit fee every time you want a fresh keg. I wasn't in their system so the cashier called a manager over. The manager says he doesn't think he can take my keg because the sticker on it is from 4 years ago and he doesn't know where it's from. I point out that the tag on the top is from their store, so that's where it was from and that it's a stainless steel vessel, they don't go bad. It was in the exact same condition as the full kegs at the store. There is no date code stamped on the keg. So he acknowledges it's theirs and said 'Well the seals might not be any good'. Ok, breweries take them back, disassemble the valves, clean and sanitize, and replace seals if needed, again, a stainless vessel doesn't just 'go bad'. There was no rationale. In trying to reason with him, I pointed out the flawed logic. What if I were to come in and the little date that was on that sticker had been scratched off in transport, and I scratched it which made it unreadable. You'd never have known the last time it was filled. Plus that's the only thing that tag denotes, you'd have no idea how many times that keg had been filled and emptied or how long it's been around. For all you know, that keg could be younger than ones they have in inventory. I pointed out that the only stampings on the stainless keg were the manufacturers name 'anheuser-busch'. The manager got super condescending stating "Yeah I can read. I can do math too". I told him I'm not trying to be a smart-***, I'm simply pointing out facts. So the manager tells me I should come back in when his distributor is there so he can tell me if the keg is any good...first, I live 40 minutes away, second, this is a keg from your store in as good of condition as the rest you have in your cooler with no damage. So I pick up my keg to leave and tell him (sarcastically at this point) "Well, this was a really pleasant experience". And then he says "Ok we'll do it, we'll just exchange it". I set my keg down and say I would totally understand if the one I brought was beat up or damaged...he cuts me off and says "We're done, that's it". I don't know what was with his attitude toward me or his reasoning. It was all pretty embarrassing. I wasn't yelling, nor raising my voice, or being rude. I was simply trying to be reasonable and I was met with rudeness and condescension. For the record, the rest of the staff were pleasant but that manager REALLY soured this place for me. That will be what sticks in my mind about this place. read more

Last night was my second time in this store, I REALLY did not appreciate the manager on shift enlisting one of their employees to follow my fiancé and I around the ENTIRE time we were there looking around. I found his attitude towards us extremely condescending and I'm still fuming about the way we were treated. He personally needed to check both of our IDs to ensure they weren't fake before the cashier could ring me out. The situation could be played off as him "just playing it safe," but we were the only customers in the store getting this "special treatment." I'm really disappointed that the customer service has gone so downhill in the last few months. We came in today to pick up a bottle of Hendricks, only to find out they were sold out. We decided to do their wine tasting and the guy manning the wine pouring station made eye contact with me, then looked away and I had to ask several times if we could do a tasting. He said sure, asked to see some ID and then we could get started, and once we showed him our IDs, ignored us to greet other guests and offered them samples. We finally decided to just try a few since it was hell trying to get his attention. We picked up some other things and headed to checkout, and I decided I should probably run to the bathroom since it would be quite a bit longer before we headed home, and asked where it was. The cashier I asked must have been new because she didn't know where it was, but the cashier on the next station said it was in Aisle 16. No one pointed me in any direction to where Aisle 16 was supposed to be, but I headed towards where I thought it was, only to be stopped by yet another employee, Sandi, who asked for my ID. I was confused (not to mention trying not to pee), as I didn't think using the bathroom counted as heading into a bar, but pulled out my ID to show her. She then yelled over to the cashier, "It's ok, she's my age" and then walked past me, laughing with the other cashier. I can't believe this lady is a manager here. First of all, you don't make comments about people's age when looking at their ID. It is rude, unprofessional, and totally inappropriate. Secondly, why would you card someone who just wants to go to the bathroom? We had already been carded when we were tasting wines. I have spent a lot of money at this store over the last 2 years, from wine and beer classes to buying alcohol, but I will not go back after this poor customer service. read more

Their beer is definitely cheaper than the average grocery store and with so much more selection. For liquor, they actually have the price after taxes so you don't have a surprise at the register. The employees here are genuinely helpful and have a crazy amount of knowledge. Any question I've had was answered almost immediately without sending me to go ask someone else. First I'll start with my critique: I stick by my five-star review, I'm really happy with this place, but Kennly's review talking about the Wine Tasting - I feel like I had a similar experience with that as well. While for the most part my service has been great, the Wine Tasting in particular felt like it was pandering to customers who appeared older/wealthier. That's their prerogative I suppose, when selling wine, but it was off-putting, especially because I was there to spend money, not just look around and try free wine. I believe I have noticed a bit of carding frenzy when I was there, especially with customers who appear young or who some of the staff don't immediately recognize. On the one hand, I can totally see where this would be irksome to your experience. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure you could repeat that kind of experience at most of the smaller liquor stores in town, mainly because of the liability of selling to minors and etc - so I can see why they do it. It hasn't been a problem for me. Now, the good stuff, and why I give 5 stars: Fantastic selection and prices, always staff available to answer questions, they're always open when I think about stopping by... really no complaints here. For me, this place has been a wonderful store to sate my curiosity. They have an amazing selection and quite a few samplers to choose from. I grabbed a bottle of King's Mead there this week, just because I'd been curious about mead and hadn't been able to find it elsewhere. The staff recommendations have always worked out well for me, and they don't bias their recommendations to sell the more expensive stuff. Staff recommendations, whether directly from the staff member or from the little cards on the shelves, have resulted in a damn good experience trying a new Moscato, Bourbon, Canadian or Irish Whiskey. As a prudent shopper, I've compared prices with Walmart and some of the local smaller liquor stores in town and Total Wine usually comes out as cheaper or pretty much equal, on most products. I still shop at my local liquor store when I know what I want, but Total Wine has become my favorite place to try new things by taking advantage of their selection, samplers, and recommendations. read more

I work in the mall and me and a few co workers decided that we should go check this place out on our lunch! I wasn't on planning on buying anything so I left my purse and wallet in my locker at the store.( this detail will become important later) When we walked in I was just amazed on how big it, pretty cool place! Lots of options and fun to look at everything they have! A coworker found a bottle of wine she wanted to buy her dad, so we headed up to the register and I decided I wanted a bag of Tim's cascade chips( my fave!!) They had one lane open that my friend with the wine went to, and then another employee signaled for me to come to her lane she just opened. She scanned my chips and then asked for ID, I told her I didn't have it, and she was just about to explain to that everyone needed ID to be in there. Which I totally agree with, I was more than willing to walk back to my store and grab it! But what made me rate this establishment a one star( I wish it could be no starts at all) was the employee that was ringing up my friend with the wine. She decided to step out from behind her register and cut off the employee that was ringing me up, and say "yeah you guys need to have IDs and be over 21 to be in here." Proceeds to point her fingers at me and another coworker of mine and say " and I'm pretty sure you two aren't even old enough to be in here" I completely understand the need to stop minors from being able to purchase at this establishment, but she did not have to be out right rude and disrespectful to paying customers. So we told her ok we'll be right back with our IDs....... We were gone for about 5 mins came back, and what do you know she had put back all of the items we were going to buy, she didn't even let my friend buying the wine for her dad purchase, she had her ID, we weren't even buying our stuff together. But yeah she puts away our items assuming we weren't coming back, so I flaunted my ID in front of her face proving that I was over 21 so I could buy my damn chips! She then had the nerve to say to us" oh thank you so much ladies for bringing your IDs it helps out so much" Yeah I know it does, but you don't have to be rude, go take a customer service class and learn how to treat customers. She shouldn't call anybody out like that in front of other customers. Pretty positive her name was Susan? I think she was the wine manager? Moral of the story?? Great selection. Terrible service. Bought a growler and was told by the employee filling it that I could, "buy the beer and return the empty bottle for a refund whenever you want". Seemed a little odd but I verbally confirmed with the employee several times while waiting the 20 minutes for her to fill it (yes it took 20 minutes) that I could return the bottle for money. Of course when I tried to do so, the manager looked at me like I was from Mars. Was nice enough to offer the refund anyway but I felt like an idiot enough so I left. Bummer. read more
