Having left my best champagne stopper at an Airbnb recently, I was on the hunt for a new one. Off to Folsom's Total Wine and More because I need professional help. Believe it or not... not all champagne stoppers are created equal. Unless you plan to drink a whole bottle by yourself in one sitting:), you need a reliable stopper. I had been here once before several years ago. A good friend was getting married and I felt a bottle of Dom Perignon was in order. My memories of that visit were all positive. I remember a well organized and clean store. Great customer service and a huge inventory. Fingers crossed nothing has changed. Alls well that ends well! Sandra was behind the counter on a somewhat slow time. She immediately came out and took me to the accessories area. She did not hesitate and picked out, what she said, what was the best stopper in her opinion. Transaction complete! Wow. That was easy. It is soooo nice to know that some things, good customer service and a nice clean store, can remain the same for years! This was the first wine class/event that I've ever taken at Total Wine, and I was very impressed with the classroom set up, charcuterie offerings, featured wines, and professionalism of the event and sales team at Duckhorn! I grew up in Sonoma County, and it's always a pleasure to learn something new about wine, where it comes from, and what makes it so special. My key takeaways were learning to appreciate the diverse appellations in Napa Valley and improving my understanding of how to read wine bottle labels. My only critique is that the class moved faster than I was anticipating, given that we wrapped up at an hour and a half, but overall, I would sign up again and recommend to anyone looking to book a unique experience! read more

The associates at this store were amazing! I didn't expect such caring and helpful staff. I was looking for a Jagermeister Holiday Beanie Gift Set. I don't live in Folsom, but it was one of the few places that still had them. I called and they were able to confirm they had them and I was able to purchase online. Then I realized my friend lived nearby and could pick it up for me. I called back and spoke to Ramos. He was so helpful! He told me what my friend would need to pick it up and whom to speak with to get an adjustment to my order. They made the the pick up by my friend so quick and easy. I was at Total Wine in Folsom California a couple of days ago. Love the Total Wine experience. Fantastic selection of both wine and spirits, very fair pricing, always a helpful staff, all good things! Well, we don't live that close to Total Wine at the moment, so every time we're in Northern California, its a must stop, We stocked up on our favorite items and always look for bargains. Living so far away, when we got home and looked at what we purchased, there was an error in what we thought we purchased. So I called the store, Ramos, one of the managers helped us rectify our issue and made everything right. That's normal for a great retailer, but he just made it so easy, and accommodating, and being extremely friendly, I had to write this note. I'm old enough to remember the old Liquor Barn, which was great, but Total Wine and More has filled that void, and they do it extremely well!! Attended the wine class and surprisingly had a really good experience with tasting and education on the different Bordeaux wines. Definitely worth the money and time. I re-visited the Total Wine store in Folsom and experienced again what I feel is Bait & Switch. The price at the register was again MORE than what was posted on the shelf. I do not believe that this type of reoccurring pricing error is an accident. In California, if the price on the shelf or an item's tag is lower than what's charged at the register, the store is legally obligated to charge you the lower price. This is based on California's Business and Professions Code § 12024.2. Be sure to check your receipt! read more

I had the most delicious bottle of Plum Wine at a Japanese dinner a few nights ago and I needed to find some to have at home. I have not had good experiences at the Elk Grove Total Wine, so I came out here and I was so glad I did. This location was so much better. We were greeted right away by Matthew who helped us find everything we were looking for (except barley wine - they don't stock that just FYI). He took us right to the section we came for and found us the bottle from the restaurant, then suggested multiple things I might like even better. He was very friendly and we ended up buying two bottles on his suggestion. Then we browsed a little and found some mead, mixers and cordials to try, as well as some cheese and even a Guinness cake! I came in for one bottle and we left with 2 bottles of plum wine, a bottle of mead, a bottle of sake, 7 small bottles, and lots of yummy snacks including a bacon infused smoked gouda and a chocolate stout cake. The prices were super reasonable as well! They also had a great gift section with adorable wine holders and cups. They also had lots of seasonal items like eggnog and Day of the Dead tequila which I adored. This location had a great selection, lots more employees and a good vibe all around. I love their selection of mini bottles, which are great for family get togethers so everyone can have the drinks/cocktails they want and it doesn't cost me a fortune. Stopped by to pick up a gift bottle - only 2 checkouts open, both moving at a snail's pace (seems to be the norm, per other reviews). There's a sign above each checkout that they ID "everyone", which most, if not all, people would interpret as "everyone making a purchase" since that's a common policy at the majority of alcohol stores. Two customers ahead of me, a 63-year-old man is making a purchase, and his 50-something girlfriend is with him (she's not making a purchase). The cashier says he needs to ID the girlfriend per store policy, so the man decides to make a big deal of it, asks for a manager, the cashier says he is a manager, but after a short time he calls to the back of the store for another manager, and everything stops while they have their standoff. Nobody opens another checkout, the cashier doesn't offer to check out the next person while waiting for the second manager, it's like the rest of us in line are invisible. The second manager finally shows up, contradicts the first manager's policy explanation, and then the managers and customer have a chat while s l o w l y bagging the purchase. Will the store post new signs clearly explaining their ID policy? Will the store train their employees better so they understand their own ID policy better? I'm not holding my breath. I won't be returning to a store that assumes customers are cattle and have all the time in the world to stand in line. read more

The selection is better than BevMo but the checkout process at the Folsom location is painful! Most of the clerks are slow & way too chatty. And can we implement a process where a customer can only try 2 phone #'s to see if they have an account? There are people trying 3, 4, 5 phone #'s. Of all the times we have been coming to this location since recently relocating here and receiving fairly good service (between 3-4 stars), it only takes one person and 1 visit to ruin it. My daughter and I visited the store for a purchase on October 14 near the close of the wine tasting hours. While we were coming there to purchase a specific wine and beer, we noticed the wine tasting was still open. The young lady (Emily I think) was so kind, professional and welcoming invited us to try the featured Armenian wines. We gladly accepted as we were also indulging in great conversation with the Emily about our being new to the area. While we were tasting and talking an older gentleman, approximately 6 feet 2 came up to put something behind the wine tasting bar. As he approached he looked as us as if we were out of place and as if we were suspicious. I continued my conversation with the hostess and my daughter but kept an eye on him. He then stayed in the nearby area (a sneeze length away) and stared at us. I turned towards him, said hello and continued engaging in the conversation between my daughter and the hostess as he stood by watching and listening. When we left the area, we ended up purchasing one of the vintage blends that she showcased. We also were looking for my favorite Pinot Noir. While doing so, the gentleman briefly engaged in conversation with an employee driving a pallet jack in the store. They were adjacent to our location and watching our every move. When we were out of the man's(I think his name is either Tom or Bob) direct line of sight he came over to the aisle where we were but on the opposite side to pretend he was working. We grabbed our 3 additional bottles of Pinot Noir and was headed to look for the Petite Syrah. As we left from the aisle, he left. We went in an opposite direction, which turned out to be the wrong way and turned around. We also remembered we needed to pick up some beer for the event we were hosting and for my husband. As we were headed back towards the general direction in which we left, there he was following us but the sudden turn around caught him off guard. After 20 minutes of his attempts-He then asked, "Can I help you find something?" I told him no- that we were just looking. I didn't need his help. He replied, "Oh, just looking?" While my daughter was getting a tad upset, I masked my concerns, ignored his ignorance, thanked him and kept it moving to get the things I intended. He stopped following us afterwards as we decided against the Syrah and went exploring the other vintages and headed towards the beer cave. Our checkout experience was awesome as Jim always gives great service but something needs to be done about the discriminatory behavior of some of the employees and managers. Not only did we sense the problem this "old school" person had with our skin tone, we also noted that (because we didn't dress up to go into the store but rather stopped our party prep to pick up the needed items) we were books being judged by the cover. Being a military veteran (USMC), retired NASA engineer, a business owner and a former equal opportunity director, it's quite appalling that older men claiming "the privilege" still think they can get away with this behavior. It's equally disgusting that the ownership and upper echelon management allow it. But they don't address the numerous and noticeable OSHA violations in the store at any given time, especially evenings. Misalignment of focus and priorities are real in this case. Reading the similar reviews about this behavior and the customer service challenges, this would be a great time for everyone to receive training on diversity and inclusion as well as delivering optimal customer service. The management should also take said training and explore the teachings of John Maxwell and Dale Carnegie. I also noticed that in previous reviews where unlawful conduct and discriminatory behavior was mentioned, the owners did not reply, which appears that they are condoning and are directly in agreement with how their employees acted towards people of various ethnic backgrounds and races. Something to also look into. Perhaps send some decoys and test agents (with hidden cameras) of all ages, races and cultures in the store to make purchases.... Lead by example and be the change agent, if you want to grow your bottom line figures. If not, it could one day evolve into something that could have been avoided out of the gates and go in an opposite direction really fast involving news outlets and other avenues of redress. I pray this is taken seriously and the behaviors corrected accordingly. read more

Every time I go to the store, someone is always very willing to help me. If they don't have something and they're capable of ordering it, they will do that for you. But, if they haven't ordered it before and it's not something that they plan on getting then it's not likely they will be able to get their distributor to stock it for you. That doesn't really matter, however, because they will find something else that you would like! My favorite employees to talk to include Bob, who has a great understanding of wines. Jack is very good in the liquor department. And today, Greg helped me in the beer department. I very much enjoy having people help me when I need a suggestion. They also are very good about wearing masks and the parking outside is always plentiful. Their selection is huge and I will continue to go here simply based on the fact the staff is so great. read more

Total Wine has a great selection of everything. We stopped for some wine. We stopped at the tasting table and tried a couple of wines and sparkling wine. We enjoyed talking with the staff person who was giving us the tastes. Of course we ended up getting some wine, some beer and a whiskey. Joe K. and I were in the neighborhood doing a few errands, so we decided to stop at this Total Wines & More. We happened to have a list of favorites and entered the store knowing that you can't go wrong at getting your wishes fulfilled. I often ask myself how "Total" can this place get? Since I know very little about wine, I can't give my opinion as to whether they stock every wine ever made in the world, but they "totally" have the appearance of looking like they do! And I don't think most wine connoisseurs are going to complain much here! I'm also impressed that they have helpful and free booklets on wines and beers. Joe K. enjoys reading the "Total Guide to Beer." If you are not a wine drinker, don't worry, the "& More" sections of this huge store will fulfill all of your beverage necessities. Alcoholic beverages of every type, brand, flavor, and size are found amongst the numerous and lengthy aisles. A large variety of beers, mixers, carbonated sodas, flavored waters and bar ware are all conveniently and easily displayed. We even got to do some wine tasting during our shopping for only ten cents! We found all of our "must haves" and purchased some of my favorite liquors in large size bottles! This is not a discount store, but the prices are pretty reasonable on most items or at least comparable to other liquor stores. I was in yesterday but when I asked for help with wine selection, there was no one to really help me with wine choices. So I returned late this afternoon, per their suggestion. Wine lady was very helpful, good suggestions. HOWEVER, when I reached an open cash register, I apparently was bothering the clerk, that was also reading & texting on his phone, laying next to the register. He had no interaction with me other than to tell me they only had big boxes. Which I had already stated that I didn't want, because I only was buying 3 bottles. So while he was texting, I gathered up 3 bags to wrap my bottles in instead. To which he said "oh, that'll work!" No help. No eye contact. What a jerk. Simply put Total Wine & More has the greatest selection of beer! I love the fact that they sell singles! I can come here and make my own six pack to find out new kinds of beer I like. Rather than going out and spending the money on a whole case, just to find out I don't even like it only one beer in. That is definitely a luxury I have not found anywhere else. They also have an enormous selection of wine and liquor. Many well trained staff members who really know their stuff. Everyone ready to help you with whatever you need. Not only do they sell alcoholic beverages but they also have a very good selection of gifts, cups, beer mugs, mixers, etc. lots of different stuff every time I come in. The only reason I give them only 4 stars is because on a couple occasions I have noticed that I have paid more here for a bottle of whiskey than I would have at even Safeway. This was a fantastic experience! Short review - Amazing customer service! Tons of options! Lots of cool non-booze stuff. Pretty store. Clean store. Amazing Customer Service! They are one of the only places with truly Gluten Free beer...that's still beer. Story mode review - It was kids day, but seeing as how this is the only place to get really good Gluten Free beer, and we are rarely in Folsom, we made a stop for a fancy craft soda. (and beer) We were very politely greeted when we entered. The first associate we saw on the soda aisle asked to help. We asked him for any cold sodas. He said they didn't have any, BUT, they have a super cool turbo chiller! It's like a little whirlpool of cold water that will chill down your beverage in a matter of minutes. The kids picked out the most face dieing, brightly colored, stain inducing, diabetes causing soda available. We popped those bad boys in the swirling whirlpool of coolness...and presto-chango! By the time we got back with my beer, we had sufficiently frosty bottles of burp juice! Every distinct aisle I was in with a slight confused look on my face ( which is partly due to the huge collection at Total Wines of-course ;) ), I had a representative promptly ask me if I was looking for help with something.
