TL/DR: Dr. Tart is the best dentist you will ever find…read more Even if you hate going to the dentist, you will love going to Dr.Tart! Long gone are the days when the dreaded "Dentist Appt" notification pops up on your calendar...when you're a patient of hers, you know you're in good hands. She's warm, knowledgeable and efficient! Always on time with her appointments, and gets the job done while also somehow finding a way to get to know you and make you laugh at the same time! I have had procedures done as well as general checkups and her follow ups go beyond the asks of the job. She's pretty "old school" in the best way possible - her job is to help keep your teeth healthy, and I've found other dentists often push you on things you don't need just to make money. Dr. Tart doesn't do this, but if you are interested in stuff like Invisalign or cosmetic (non necessity) procedures she will absolutely inform you on them. Oh! And her staff! I think Dr.Tart has some secret hack for finding the best staff. Like, total unicorns. Denise and Cheryl - y'all rock. (Cheryl is actually the whole reason for me coming here in the first place! As I followed her from another practice.) Thanks Midlothian Dental Center!!!!

Fire the nasty front desk woman that is consistently condescending to patients and parents. As I…read moresat in the waiting room I watched it happen. Then she tried with me . Not only that but have you ever heard of a dentist office not doing dental work? So what they do is they take you in for your visit they might give you teeth cleaning and then they send you with a referral with your children to some other place to do the dental work which means they're getting paid by the county if you're using Medicaid or they're getting paid by the insurance company if you're paying with your insurance, either way, they're scamming the system . If you're gonna choose mile 32 I would definitely go to the Bon air Office ....stay away from the Midlothian Turnpike Office. when I tried to talk to them because I also went there for my own teeth as well as my children about why they were sending me to places that did not accept my insurance. The lady proceeded to snap at me and I let her have it! I told her I didn't appreciate the way she talk to people while I was in her office and I did not appreciate the way she talked to me and I gave her the big fu when she decided she wanted to try to send me to a dental office three hours from my house. At that point, she deserved everything she got. The main company had the nerve to send me a letter stating that they no longer wish to have my service too bad. They didn't realize I had already pulled all of my family members as patients! What the hell makes you think I'm gonna let you work on my children's teeth when you don't even know how to talk to adults properly let alone children!!! The only reason I'm giving it one star is because of the Bon air office is a 5 but her nasty attitude was so bad and it's causing the company to lose clientele left and right so it deserves a one

Ok, great. Well they called me like every day which obviously isn't possible with kids and a job let alone it's painful to have that much work done back to back, so I missed one of the appointments they called and scheduled me for (even though I told them I had to find child care and I'd call back to CONFIRM) and then another because I had a procedure done the same day and didn't realize I wouldn't feel well after. So when I tried to reschedule my last appointment with them they told me it would have to be at least 6months out because I had 2 missed appointments in a 2 YEAR SPAN. insane!! OH and they referred me to get my root canals at a practice that is almost 2 HOURS AWAY. Who tf is gonna drive 2 hours for a root canal? Especially potentially needing more than one, insane!

She just wanted the abscess taken care of. They tried to make her get filling. She said no, she was already in too much pain. The dentist acknowledged the infection, but refused to do anything about it. Refused to even give her antibiotics. We spent 3 hours the next day at Med Express. That Dr. took ten seconds to tell her she needed antibiotics. I have NEVER in 59 years even heard of a Dr who refused to give antibiotics to someone with an infection.

But after what I was told today by my sister, as a dental assistant myself, I'm completely appalled and utterly disgusted by the sales tactics and lack of empathy with patient care. My sister is 22 years old and was degraded on her teeth during her appoint this morning. She was originally told that "essentially all your teeth are dead and if not, they're going to die soon so" (which after taking a look at her X-rays myself, that's the furthest thing from the truth) My sister was then told she would need multiple root canals and even implants. Dr. Guthrie proceeds to then share with my sister that "those options are rather expensive" and "can you even afford that?" After my sister called me crying about this visit, to say I was in tears and FUMING, would be an understatement. As my sister is very clearly being completely used for a sales tactic and punching bag of the day, Dr. Guthrie proceeds to tell her "a better cost option for you would be dentures". At this point my jaw is on the floor. This whole appointment was completely unprofessional and shows that Dr. Guthrie is just money hungry. As if this visit isn't horrifying enough, all while this is going on, my sister is crying hysterically and on the verge of a panic attack, and Dr. Guthrie had absolutely NO sympathy whatsoever and even made a joke "dentures at 22? wow what do you think about that?" Well, considering she was hysterically crying the entire appointment I'd say she didn't like the idea. She's young, alone, without her parents, knows nothing about teeth and this is the way you treat a patient? This is the reason people don't go to dentists in years. All it takes is one traumatic visit like this one. If you have dental anxiety please avoid this place. Or it will give you a reason for dental anxiety. I would never let Dr. Guthrie near me or my family or anybody I even remotely liked for that matter. I have not been to this location and I never will. I called on my sisters behalf and requested her records immediately. The PSR was kind the FIRST time I called and assured me she would send me her chart along with her x rays immediately. A little more than an hour and a half goes by and I have received nothing. I then leave my own procedure to call again and ensure I get these records because there's no way in possible hell that my 22 year old sister needs dentures. When I called for the second time, the PSR was rude and seemed annoyed I was asking about something that legally, they have to give you upon request. Once I asked about the chart and x rays that had not been sent she said "I literally just sent them to you 6 minutes ago"..... Well unfortunately you told me you would send them immediately so... immediately and 2 hours later are two completely different things. After FINALLY receiving my sisters X-rays, she has healthy bone, healthy teeth and maybe a couple cavities. I got no chart, no notes, nothing else that I requested. But it didn't take much for me to realize James River Dental is nothing but a sales tactic. Do better for your patients. This was absolutely disgusting and I hope other patients aren't treated this way.

You should read this before considering Aspen Dental…read more My review will be lengthy so here is a quick introduction to my experience. Staff was friendly and the appointment got scheduled quickly, that's the extent of the good and why I awarded them two stars. The bad includes incompetence, incorrect charts, unprofessionalism, and a Hippa violation. I broke a tooth a few months ago and at the time it wasn't causing me much pain. When I originally contacted Aspen a couple things really stood out. The receptionist was very friendly and explained that they had to do their own exam but it would be free. The appointment was set quickly and was told that because I was in pain that they would make it a priority to have the tooth extracted, possibly even the same day. On the day of my appointment I was greeted with friendly faces and a genuinely nice staff, I was seen quickly and they began their exam. After the x-rays were completed I briefly talked to the dentist who informed me that I have not one but two teeth that need to be extracted. The dentist seemed professional enough. After the dentist left I was told I was then going to be seen by an oral hygienist. The hygienist was nice but talked to me like I was an idiot. Even used the phrase "you know, like science" (use your best meme voice). I wasn't really upset by this but was shocked by the unprofessionalism and only later did it become more relevant. Only once all the exams were performed did they want to discuss what brought me in to their facility. The office manager came in the exam room and gave me a quote for around $4000.00 for all the recommended work including the extraction of the teeth, deep cleanings, a small cavity, and some cosmetic work. I informed him that my main concern right this second was what was giving me pain and would address the rest of the recommended work at a later date. This is where I received a complete change of attitude. The way I was being spoken to went from how can we help you to, this guy is poor get him out of here. Upon my request the office manager quoted me on removing the teeth that were causing my pain and the quote was almost double per tooth the quote I was given over the phone. No big deal but I had to ask why. He then proceeds to justify the pricing by telling me it was wisdom teeth that need to be removed. Well the dentist told me it was two molars that needed extraction and that my wisdom teeth haven't even emerged yet. After he accused me of being wrong, you know poor dumb person, he then realized someone marked the charts wrong, literally wrote down the wrong teeth needed to be extracted. At this point I was left with more questions then answered and told him that I would have to think about this before I made an appointment. I happen to have a friend who is a dental assistant and called her for some further understanding. She asked me to find out some more information and to get a copy of the x-rays. I will talk about the x-ray request in a minuet. I believe my first call to Aspen after my visit was received by the office manager again, I could be wrong about this, but was informed that everyone was too busy over there to answer any of my questions. Only when exclaimed that I was in pain and was trying to gather more information so I could make and educated decision as to how to correct this pain was I reluctantly given the information I called upon. I then had to call a second time to try to acquire the x-rays they took earlier. I was made aware of a form that needed to be filled out but that they could email me the form. When I received the form via email there was a note sent with it as well letting me know they would not email the x-rays because it was a Hippa Violation (not true, but maybe company policy). The problem is the form that they sent me was partially filled out by another patient, which is a Hippa Violation. Even though I am still in pain and am having to wait for another appointment with someone else I am glad this facility is not performing surgery on me. Human decency does not exist here. The recording the charts wrong is really scary. Could they have possibly removed the wrong teeth if I proceeded with their recommendations?

This is the fast food of dentistry. Terrible follow-up care. No concern for a patient in pain. They…read moresaid just make another appointment in 2-3 weeks. Once they get your money they will ignore you.

I rarely write reviews, and the ones I usually write are positive. I went to Virginia Family…read moreDentistry because of the glowing reviews, but my experience was quite different. I've lived in the Richmond area for over 40 years and found their business practices concerning. My 19-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter, and I had appointments last week. After being informed that our new patient visits would total $577 for the same services (since we are self-pay), I agreed to proceed. While I understand my son is an adult, I made it clear that I would be paying for everything. I grew concerned when my dentist suggested pulling a back tooth due to a gap that might cause bacteria issues, despite no current problems plus making recommendation to see their periodontist and pushing a possible the idea of an implant for the tooth; as well as, selling them on their orthodontist after I mentioned that I had seen the orthodontist the day before...which they said they never got x-rays for and it didn't matter because theirs would be different. Additionally, we were told afterward that my daughter's visit would cost $60 more due to extra X-rays, which we were not informed about in advance. It's comparable to a mechanic doing extra work without getting your approval first. I decided to go along with it, appreciating the new patient discount. They then informed us my son would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular one and scheduled it for this week, again without giving any pricing information. When he asked if there would be extra costs, they implied there shouldn't be. Later, we found out this service would cost over $200. This was surprising since we were told otherwise, and they knew I was responsible for the payments. When I asked why we didn't receive a discount for my son's previous visit since he didn't get a cleaning the first time, they said his services were different. How? When the whole purpose of the visit was for a check up and cleaning. After speaking with the office manager, Lauren, I felt unheard and unacknowledged as a customer. She did not apologize or address my concerns, only defending their position. As a business coach and consultant, I've rarely encountered such poor customer service communication outside of the restaurant industry. We ultimately decided not to proceed with the additional service. Virginia Family Dentistry's communication with patients is lacking at best and unethical at worst. They lost out on over $1,500 of upcoming services we would have needed and the lifetime value of a customer. Choose carefully! They will not be getting any recommendations from me. It's noteworthy that they've disabled reviews on Facebook, which might explain the abundance of positive reviews here. I prefer practices that prioritize people over profits and are not influenced by private equity.

It was at that time that I asked for a referral, and he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry Orthodontist. And I have to admit that was the BEST recommendation anyone could have EVER given me. From the very first moment I walked through their doors, I was greeted so warmly that I knew I was in the right place. Their receptionist and front office personnel are very warm, inviting, and professional. But it didn't stop there. The initial process was informative with the comfort and ease necessary to help me make a decision. After that first visit, I was sold! When the day came to receive my braces, I was so excited! Their caring service, is by far the BEST! And they worked within my budget and I couldn't be happier. My regular dentist, who I've been with for 15 years, really gave me an EXCELLENT referral when he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry. They are now my favorite place to visit.
