This place, unlike several…read moreothers in the area, really strives to keep a traditional element alive by packaging unique Asian herbs, spices, and other seasoning. Not many places in the Triangle do this. The store resembles more of a Ho Chi Minh style rather than a Hanoi as the products are a bit more modern, the availability of modern Vietnamese products as well as those from a bygone era makes it neat place. They also have a decent incense selection which, for me at least, is great as Vietnamese incense is great and only bested by South Korea. I'd also add that these places carry "Chinese Medicine" but, as a rule, I rarely get anything from stores like this. Don't get me wrong, I like homeopathic vitamins and medicine as much as the next guy, it's just the pill-form of these things is pretty useless. Oh, and this isn't a browsing store like S-Mart or Grand Asia. Head there with a recipe in mind.

Sure, H Mart has a larger selection, but it's a bit too far for me, so this spot does the job well. Don't expect anything fancy here. There are no frills, just quality ingredients and traditional Korean foods that you can take home and cook yourself. There's no kitchen, no hot food being served, and the layout is pretty basic. In fact, most of the staff are usually working in the back and will come out when they hear someone come in, which always gives me a chuckle. At the end of the day, this isn't the place to visit if you're looking for a prepared meal. But if you need authentic Korean ingredients for home cooking or even want to experiment with Korean recipes, it's definitely worth checking out.

When I come to Fresh International Market, I don't come to shop, I come to eat. As someone who…read morevalues the bang for your buck, a place that will offer you rice and three sides for less than $12 is always going to make me happy. Okay, I am not going to forget the rest of the store. Fresh International is the closest place to me that does Chinese centric groceries, which is a necessity at times. Sure, H-Mart is closer to me, but some days I just prefer using the soft Chinese tofu instead of the Korean option. Not only that, but they have a better selection of rice and other snacks and treats. There is a seafood counter, butcher, a bakery attached, and the main attraction for me, their hot bar. The hot bar is cafeteria style in which you point to what you want in front of you. There is a blend of traditional Chinese options and some other more Americanized options. They have all different types of meats, including steamed fish, pork, chicken, etc, as well as tofu and vegetable options. The most expensive option is the $10.99 rice and three options, which is already a bargain in this economy. The food itself is solid for the price, and is very fulfilling. I would totally have this every lunch! Attached to the hot bar is the Chinese BBQ section. There, you can get roast pork, duck and other fresh meats. Their roast pork with the crispy skin absolutely rocks. The meat is tender and the skin is crispy and crunchy. My only problem with Fresh International are their hours. Their hot bar closes at 6:30 PM, while the store stays open until 9. I came at 7:00 PM and they were already wrapped up! Bummer! Make sure to come at lunch while the food is hot and fresh!

Fresh International Market's hot bar has solid value, but the overall experience was just okay…read more The biggest positive is the portion size. For $10.99 (three-item plate), you get a very generous amount of food, which is hard to beat. There are also a decent number of meat options to choose from. That said, the selection felt limited for anyone going meat-free, and more importantly, the food itself lacked flavor. The mapo tofu was disappointing, and the bok choy was pretty bland. Others in our group tried the orange chicken, which was described as okay, but nothing anyone would go out of their way for. Overall, it's filling and affordable, but not particularly memorable. Good for quantity, just not quality or standout flavor.

The workers here, although not 100% fluent in English, are kinda and helpful.. sometimes it requires you showing them a picture of what you're looking for, and they will gleefully show you. Also, the bean sprouts here are very very fresh, fresher than any other Asian grocer I've seen in the Triangle. The way they pack it with space for air contributes to what helps keep the sprouts fresher. Honestly, if the world was in kahoots and this place was accessible, you could live here and cook so much yummy homemade food.
