great and friendly gym! i came here to try out the classes and see how much i could really do in there BJJ class because i had no past training and background in anything. From the start, the entire staff and coaches were very welcoming and open to help me learn. it took a lot to finally come in because of my lack of background, but with the structure of all the classes and help from the coaches i was progressing to feel very comfortable with everything they had to offer with their teachings. since i started with BJJ, there was a point in my life when i was 280 lbs and i was just fed up with the way that clothes would not fit any more and i could not keep up with normal everyday tasks, so i signed up to a local gym and began a cardio weight loss workout plan. Within 6 months i had many results from it and started to see a change with my body and i was happy, but it was BORING and i was tired of doing it even though i was getting results. But i was still going because i did not want to just stop and gain all my weight back, and there were days where i would skip and i wouldnt put as much effort into the workout. I was just tired of the same routine where i could go when I wanted and stop when I wanted. A friend of mine told me to check out a local gym that taught kick boxing and BJJ because it was a fun alternative to working out and you could lose more weight in less time while turning flab into muscle. so i just walked in to meet Nasal and he would ask me to stay for one class to see how i liked it. that first class was all that i needed to realize what my friend was talking about when he said that its fun. the classes are structured to have a light cadio and weight resistance workout to warm up into tone your body and the rest of the class is them teaching you movments and fundamentals of BJJ. I have lost a total of 55 pounds, physically changed my body for the best and i never felt like it was a boring workout routine. i highly recommend trying a class to shut down any doubts that you may have. the benefits are endless with the health and education that you learn from them. read more

I turned 49 last year and had to have bilateral hip replacements from a series of old sports injuries in May of 2010. I had gained a lot of weight and was in terrible physical condition. As I recovered from my surgery, my 8 year old son expressed an interest in BJJ and after discussing with my surgeon decided to give it a try.. at a minimum, it was something the two of us could do together. I cant tell you how happy i am to have made that decision. The facility at Total MMA is top notch, with lots of classes for both adults, children, even a new class dedicated just to woman. The teachers are all professionals in their disciplines and owners Juliano Prado and Adriano Nasal promote a culture of respect and learning. The students are to a person friendly and willing to help anyone improve their skills. I can honestly say that many of these people have become friends, amazing in such a short time. Progress has been amazing. In 5 months, I have lost 3 inches on my waist and 25 pounds. I am in the best physical condition of my life and even took a Silver medal in the 2011 Copa Pacifica Jiu Jitsu tournament. Beginning this training in one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have just finished my 6-week challenge with Total MMA Studios and may I say I LOVED it! When I first started this challenge, I was given the option to choose Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai. I went with Muay Thai because I wanted to learn how to properly punch, kick, throw knees and elbows, the whole package. My training was mostly with Paulo and Eric, who both are fantastic trainers. Both of them are very patient when they're showing you how to properly execute a combo or throw a certain move. They're always checking in with how you're doing between rounds and have a great attitude. They have plenty of bags for class, an open mat, a ring, space for Jiu-Jitsu, and the gym After the third week, I gained access to their gym. I used their gym here and there before practice, and let me say they have it all in a small space. Never is the gym overcrowded and they have mostly everything I love to use. Due to the drive and time, I will not be continuing with them, but I recommend them to anyone willing to try a new hobby because I fell in love with it. Luckily at my local gym, there are heavy bags to use. I will be continuing my training and proudly wearing the gear they gave me during my experience with them! I started training with Juliano Prado and Adriano Nasal since I was a white belt. I have nothing but good things to say about them and their gym. -Top notch instructors. -Every class is instructed by a blackbelt and they push you hard. -Very flexible schedule for a busy person like myself. They offer morning, noon, and night BJJ classes. The gym opens 7 days a week which is unheard of. -Ballyfitness is right next door and comes with your gym membership for no extra charge. -Huge mat space. -In the middle of downtown Tustin where you can go grab a bite or a drink after class. -Plenty of parking even though it is downtown. -It's right off the I-5 and 55 freeway -Awesome students with no ego. A good number of blue and purple belts. -Friendly environment to women, newcomers, and alike. -The most important to me: mats are being clean after every class to prevent skin infection. Unfortunately, a lot of schools that i've visited do not do this. I live in Mission Viejo (about 14 miles south of Tustin) and there are plenty of good BJJ schools that are closer, but I chose Total MMA Studios/Brazilian Top Team OC as my 2nd home. read more

I started here back about 3 or so years ago when it had different owners and different location when it was called No Limits. They've recently moved to a more convenient location right off the 5fwy and Red Hill in Tustin. This place is great. I can't say enough great things about the staff and trainers. Besides the trainers, there is a wide array of students from people who want to get or stay in shape, to people who train for serious competition. Everyone is helpful on all levels. Besides the staff and the members, this place actually has one of the most flexible schedules and wide array of classes out of the other MMA gyms in the area. They have so many classes on any given day; weekends, weekdays, nights, mornings, etc... BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Cardio, etc. Check out their web site and see the schedule and note the great training staff. They even have a video page where you can see some of the instructors and fighters in pro events - my favorite is Bryce's knock out reel. Total MMA is one the best thing ever happen to me. Every since I start doing my Cardio Boxing classes there I feel much more energetic, tone, lost few pounds and is a great of source to release your daily tension specially from work - it is my therapy. Total is such a great fun and family environment I love all the instructors and it feels like I have a personal trainer all the time and everyone treats you very nice. It is great feeling to lose 800 calories per each cardio class at Total. Beside all these great cardio classes available we girls have now a Brazilian jiu jitsu classes for "beginners" just for us and I am totally in love with it. The coaches teaches you how to self-defense and I am amazing with this incredible martial art and how it disciplines you. It is a great source of burning calorie as well. I also love seeing kids training jiu jitso - they enjoyed as much as I do and its very disciplinary for kids. We've had a great experience with my son's jiu jitsu classes here. He started with absolutely no experience, and the improvement we've seen in such a short time has been amazing. He's learned so much, gained confidence, and is always excited to go to class. My husband and I both agree that he's doing really well and enjoying every minute of it. All the coaches and staff are incredibly kind, patient, and friendly. Even though the gym can feel busy at times, everything still runs very efficiently. The coaches do a great job managing the kids and making sure everyone gets enough attention and instruction. The kids stay active and engaged, and while they're not standing around waiting, they still receive plenty of quality teaching. Overall, we're very happy with this place and highly recommend it for any parents looking to get their kids into jiu jitsu in a positive, supportive environment. read more

I had been wanting to join a gym to cross train in different martial arts disciplines for awhile now, but I wasnt really sure which gym to go to, or even how to go about finding one. So luckily a guy at my work that has been training here for years told me about this place and I couldnt be happier. they have everything i need, weights, mats, rings, etc. I couldnt afford the monthly dues and they actually worked with me to find a price that worked for my budget. So now i can hit the mat and train BJJ, get in the ring to practice my striking and then lift weights completely exhausted. The whole staff is super helpful and basically i couldnt be happier. the hardest part about training here is not getting distracted by some of the hot girls doing the cardo kickboxing class ;D read more

You won't find anywhere else in Orange County with this many jiu jitsu, kickboxing, boxing, and MMA classes. The doors open at 7am and classes are running until 9pm. Great weekend hours and options too - perfect for busy people like myself. In addition, there are so many black belts to train jiu jitsu with - I have taken classes from 6 different black belts at various times, so great for training. Plus tons of brown, purple, and blues (classes have up to 30 people on the mat). Excellent and growing girls class and really supportive environment for females wanting to train to fight or just get in shape. I shopped around trying 5-6 different gyms before settling on TMMA, and I couldnt be happier with my decision. read more

The Real deal with all classes, trainers and members. Kickboxing classes are the hardest around....taught by real fighters that bring their training to your class. Jiu Jitsu by black belt teachers...the jiu jitsu classes are great, you get a great warm up, then you learn moves, then you roll with others...everyone is there to help, not show you up...beginners to experts easily fit into the same classes. I have recently moved and this gym is what I miss most about living in that area. I now realize how specail this facility is...oh yeah, Ballys next door for weights, showers, spa and sauna. I been training here since this gym opened, I started doing Brazilian jiu jitsu and MMA not knowing anything, but the coaches here have a lot of fighting and training knowledge and experience. Getting a membership with them has been the best investment I've gotten my self, now I learned a lot of the advanced techniques in different types of mix martial arts from ground fighting to stands up in a short time period, now I'm fighting amature in MMA and plan to go pro next year because I trust the coaches here to train me good and believe in me. I just wanted to let everyone know that Total MMA studios in the city of Tustin is a very friendly place to be as you walk in the door you are greeted in a way that makes you feel right at home everyone there is very friendly and professional I recently was there for the 6 challenge unfortunately I was able to complete it do to personal matters but the time that I was there I was treated with lots of respect from everyone no matter there belt level coach Jr was very patient and friendly Juliano the owner nice and very charismatic person easy to get along with in the future I would like to go back and become a student there I recommend this place 100 percent best place ever read more

Best place to train in the OC!!! I have been a member since its opening late last year. The Striking and Cardio programs are not only intense but the instructors make it fun!! The Brazilian Jiu-jitsu program offers something you rarely ever get with Jiu-jitsu schools and that is variety of techniques. BTT Orange County has 3 main instructors all black belts and they all have their own approach to the sport, which makes it great for students looking to learn it all.
