Friday night downstairs AC went on strike after I attempted to fix a wi-fi problem to control the unit. A man has to know his limitations. Since I do not have anyone on retainer my reliance fell to YELP for assistance. River City's Total Maintenance was selected after reading the reviews. Call made for assistance before 9:00am. Spoke to a very nice person who took my information and advised me I would be contacted shortly. In a short period of time informed my window for service would be between 10:00am and noon; a two hour window given to me at 9:20am. I can live with that kind of service. Their very professional, knowledgeable, and all around good guy Josh was at my door at 11:18am and worked a miracle for me within an hour of arriving. This review is being prepared in heavenly coolness in my home. The fantastic immediate and professional service by all the staff along with reasonable cost on a Saturday morning makes me happy. Its been well over a year and they provided neither of those to us, and are not working with us to schedule anything. And of course, they refuse to refund any of our payments for services not used. I would warn anyone to stay away from Total Maintenance. I've lost thousands of dollars in supposed "repairs" that are extremely overpriced and nothing is fixed by the end of it. After they come out I've had to call other electricians and plumbers. I've had pieces reused and not replaced as they were suppose to be. I wasn't told that the wiring to my AC could start a fire. They also harass you about scheduling and payment repeatedly and when asked for estimates in a pdf you can bet you'll need to ask three times for it along with removing the extra charges and work they claim you need that isn't necessary. I purchased a house last year in October 2023 where the HVAC equipment had been maintained by "River City's Total Maintenance". Prior to purchase, the owner showed me documentation from September 2023, which I still have, indicating that both the condenser and furnace were functioning fine. I got an independent HVAC inspection done prior to purchase, and the independent inspector found a crack in the heat exchanger. So I negotiated the price of a system replacement with the previous owner and did the system replacement within a month of purchase. During the replacement, when the old furnace was removed, we found two cracks in the heat exchanger, one of which was sizable. Had we believed the clean bill of health that "River City's Total Maintenance" gave the old system, I could have ended up killing my family, my pets and myself when we ran the furnace - a cracked heat exchanger leaks carbon monoxide into living space. We have been using River City Total Maintenance for many years and are club membership users. Recently, all in one day, we had plumbing and A/C issues. The plumber, George came out the first day I called and was so helpful in determining where the leak was coming from, fixed it and installed a new kitchen faucet. The next day he came back to install a new toliet we had purchased. He is very knowledgeable, does great work, and I would not hesitate to recommend him. I obtained 2 quotes from this company to replace my A/C system because I was having a black mold issue around my vent registers throughout my home and I figured doing a complete system replacement would qualify me for the Federal Tax Credit so I would be saving some money. This company took me on a looong path of lies, deceit, incompetence, inexperience, stress, borderline lawsuit, and finally removal of the equipment. They installed a new Carrier system including UV light and new thermostat. We paid for top of the line all Carrier brand name equipment but they installed a Carrier Ev. coil, Carrier furnace, Rheem UV light, & Bryant thermostat. The compressor broke within 1 week and they had to repair it. When we'd called them to come out to repair it, no one answered their phone. I left several messages with no return call till the next day. We were forced to spend a night without A/C yet they advertise 24 hour service! Lies! After a month of consulting Carrier reps who informed us the owner of River City, Brigham Ragusa, had installed the wrong size furnace, he offered to replace the evaporator coil to fix the problem. During the 1st and 2nd installs, the duct cleaning crew were so irresponsible that I had to follow them around babysitting them, that is, when they WERE working. They stood around smoking cigarrettes outside & chatting. They forgot to seal all duct boots, caulk sheetrock creases in our return air closet, had wrong sized air vent covers b/c they didn't measure prior to install, had wrong sized return air vent grill & forgot the filter back at the warehouse, & allowed overspray of cleaner fluid they used to clean off mold to fall on expensive furniture and ruined a precious photo of mine that is irreplaceable. Installers put the new plenum on top of our doorbell wire so the doorbell kept buzzing so later a technician had to come back out to cut it, redirect it, the splice it back together, and they cracked/broke the plywood underneath our equipment in the attic. They didn't seal the equipment so the UV light was shining out from underneath the equipment, and unbelievably enough, the city inspector missed that as well after doing his "after job" inspection. The City Inspection office informed us A/C companies should pull a permit for a job prior to their installation, but River City never pulled it until several days AFTER they finished which is a violation. During the 2nd install, they installed an ADP brand ev. coil which again is lesser quality than the Carrier brand we paid for, put "scoops" in the wrong air vents, smeared caulk on our walls and doorknobs without cleaning it up, & broke our UV light but promised they'd be back the following week with replacement bulbs. We never saw these guys again till removal of the entire system later. The system fluctuated the humidity from a high 70% humidity down to 28% humidity, so badly that it caused me and my family health and breathing issues. I had no control over the fan on the system because it was so high-end, the furnace controlled that. We couldn't turn our fan on when we wanted to! After failed attempts with the owner to fix the A/C issues, we asked him to honor his Money Back Guarantee on his receipt & quotes but he refused to. Angry, frustrated, and unsatisfied, I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office. Brigham Ragusa, the owner, lied to the Attorney General saying he'd sent out a Carrier rep to our home to inspect the issues. Carrier never came to our home. I filed a complaint w/the State Inspection office as well. After 9 months of legal arguing, the owner finally decided he would remove the faulty equipment, but during the removal, the installers slammed things around very loudly knocking pictures off our walls, and damaged our new attic tent when I informed them they'd installed it inside out. The installers smart mouthed me in my own home!! Will NEVER recommend this company to ANYONE! I will do my best to steer people away from them. They steal your $$$, lie, and give you havoc. Not worth your time or money. Try another company, don't go through what we had to endure! read more

Make sure you shop around for pricing. Double check any work they perform in your home. And above all, keep a copy of your contract. I called this company being they had so many great reviews. The person that answered was very professional and courteous. She took my information and told me someone would call me back. Great!!! 3 hours later no call back so I called again. This time the lady that answered was very nonchalant and asked the same questions as if I had never called their business. She gave me a quote for the visit and a appointment for the next day. Ok cool, but for some reason I went back to their site and realized the quote was different than what was advertised, so I called back. I explained what I saw on their page and she got a little snappy and said I should have told her about the advertisement, but I'm thinking to myself, why should I have said anything about the price when they are advertising it?! My appointment went from the next day to the following week for the same service all because of a $30 difference. Below is my original review, which is hidden in the link mentioned above. "Be Aware! This is the same business that used to be "Total Maintenance, Inc." (TM), which did a very bad business. Their rating was "F" in the Better Business Bureau of New Orleans. They attempted to change their business name 3 times and had changed their addresses (2 locations) twice. Why do I know? I've been dealing with them since 2010. If I going to list all the bad things they did to my family and the miserable things they brought to us, I will need at least 3 full pages. I just want to give you the summary here. I purchased 2 brand new 16-seers A/C units (3 & 4 tons for 2-story house) from them in 2010 for 13,000.00 to install in my newly purchased home at that time. After two weeks, they installed units, which was Friday. The day after (Saturday), 1 unit was dead and the other one was not cooling enough. This happened during the mid of August while we had a 2-weeks old baby. I didn't want my 2-weeks old baby to suffer the heat so I called them on Saturday but no one pick up the phone. I then called the salesman. After telling him the issues, he said "F--k, I am about to go to the party and I don't want this f--king sh-t on the weekend". Then I called them the following Monday. They sent out a tech to inspect 2 installed units. That tech presented me a list of 12 things that was installed incorrectly on 1 unit. For the unit that was not cooling enough, He said "It needs to be evaluated and I just found a few minor things, but the trashes left by the installers in the attic is unacceptable". They came back out 2 days later to get the dead one working. It took them about 2 months with many trips to my house to fix 12 items on the list. I later found out that the unit was not cooling was also leaking and damaged ceiling of my 1 floor bathroom. I've been dealing with them ever since for this one (4 tons) that was/is not cooling enough and leaking. To make it short, they could never be able to fix or find out what the problems were/are. Since installed, this unit will never able to provide my family 78 degrees or lower. It runs all day and never stop in summer, unless I keep it at 79 degrees. As of now, my 1st floor bathroom ceiling has a huge hold so that the leaking from condensation can go thru. Yes, I keep a 5-gal bucket there. I can't fix the ceiling because the water keep dripping from the unit. Since 2010, I made about 35 calls to them. They sent out about 16 techs, and none of them was able to fix. They got me into paying every time the tech came out by saying "we think it's the parts, which under warranty, but you have to pay for replacement labors". Time after time, I have been lure into this same situation but the problems are never fixed. The problem was that I can't keep the tech at my house for 2 to 3 hours after he replaced the parts to see the problems. Since 2010, I contacted the manager and left messages about 10 times. He called back about 3 times, and we argued about 2 times. I reported to the BBB of New Orleans 3 times, which myself and other customers made their rating went down to "F". It was to the point that they didn't even respond to the BBB any more. I want to sue this company so bad but I don't have money. I contacted many LA state government offices to report, asked for help to resolve, and asked for free attorney assistance. They tried to contact this company for a few months but never got any response. After a few months, a couple of offices sent me letters saying that they tried to represent to resolve the problems, but as gov't offices, that's all they can do. They can't bring this business to court due to many reasons. And in this case, they can't help any further because this company didn't respond to their requests at all. I gave up the fight since last year. We spent about $15,000.00 and I can't describe to you how frustrating and miserable it is to my family to deal with this company. read more

I called them every day for 4 days and while the person answering the phone assured me that some one was coming out, no one did, nor did I get any call from them with any explanation. So after several weeks and close to $900 "thrown away", I am still waiting for the General Manager to contact me, as I was told he would over a week ago. Guess his comments on 9/24/2016, "... sorry you felt we didn't communicate well with you, and for that I apologize. I will be addressing this with my staff to ensure this never happens again", might mean more if I had actually heard from him as I was told I would. The comments also did not address the price issues or the fact that the "fix" that I paid close to $900 for was seemingly unnecessary. Glad that I was able to find a reputable HVAC company that was able to properly diagnose the issue and fix my A/C for a price less than 1/3 the price quoted to me by River City. River City is the WORST!! After a song-and-dance from the salesman about how service-oriented this company is and how hard they will work to earn and keep my business, I paid $7,200 for a brand new Carrier air conditioner and gas heater last Saturday. As the installers were leaving, they said the unit wasn't operating properly and since they didn't know what the problem was, a technician was on his way to fix it. A couple of hours later a technician arrived and said the valve was restricted. It began to work when he tapped on it, but he said they were going to replace it on Tuesday. By Tuesday, I had a large water stain in the ceiling because the installers didn't level the drip pan and the water backed up into the insulation and sheetrock. Cutoff valve, you ask? Yeah, there was a cutoff valve, but the installers titled the coil so the valve didn't work. The technician said they didn't need to replace the restricted valve now (that they promised to fix on Saturday) because it's still working, but they were going to have to replace the coil right away. They were supposed to come out today to fix it and I even confirmed with them this morning. When no one showed by 6:30 p.m., they had the audacity to tell my appointment was for tomorrow (this is the second time they blamed me for misunderstanding the appointment time). Don't waste your money or time with this company - what a joke. I've had more grief and stress with them in less than a week than I've had in a lifetime. I only wish I had seen the other review before I called them. Total scam. I called them for a routine check up on my 3 year old unit as it was freezing up. They came out to check it out and told me that I had a blockage and that I was missing a major component of my A/C in that it "was never installed correctly". The total come to $4300----I got a second opinion. Ends up I had simply let my inside filter get too dirty and it wasn't getting full air flow thus causing the freezing. I spent $5 on the filter and it works perfectly. Stay away unless you want to get screwed. read more

I was helping my father-in-law get some major electrical work on his house. I made an inquiry on a Friday on RCTM's website. They promptly called back on the phone number that I had provided, and made an appointment to come out on Monday between 9 and 12. I told them to call ahead when they were coming, because my father-in-law's house was a couple of blocks from my own, and I would meet them there. I had heard nothing by 11 AM on Monday. I called RCTM, and the receptionist told me that the technician was at another job, but that I was next on the list, and he would call ahead, as requested. By 12:30 PM I had heard nothing, so I called RCTM again. This time I got a different receptionist, and she told me that the technician had been to the house at 9:10 AM and no one had answered, and that he had tried to call, but was unsuccessful. I said what number did he use, and she provided my number with two digits reversed. I asked why wasn't I told this at 11 AM, and the receptionist said that she had "just come on the job" and didn't know what I had been told previously. She offered to reschedule. I told her that I had taken the morning off from work for this appointment, and that I wouldn't trust them again. I would get another contractor. If RCTM can't even communicate effectively among themselves, why should you trust them either? read more

I have a story of honesty that is rare in this day and age. "Mike" of River City Air Express--New Orleans came out a couple of weeks ago for a faulty first floor AC unit, and installed a new one. In the course of checking over our system he made some minor repairs to our other two systems. Then this past weekend, the second floor unit was not cooling. Mike came out on a Saturday (unit was frozen so we had to turn it off and he would have come back again that day, but we were unavailable.) He returned on Sunday. He said the freon was low, which had caused the freezing (a likely leak) and that the expense of the freon would result in likely a $700 or so bill. We felt we had few options, and approved the repair. Mike added the freon and then talked with us. He said he believes the freon leaked out because he did not tighten something back tight enough when he looked at the unit two weeks ago. He said there would be no charge whatsoever, although he knew he would take some head from his boss. Furthermore, he apologized that we had had a couple of warm nights in the bedrooms as a result of his oversight. Who does this anymore??!! We would never have known. You better bet I will be calling Mike back for all our future HVAC needs!!! read more
