Office staff rude and not helpful. Waiting for over an hour to be seen by the doctor.

For your own eye safety do not go. The office manager and Dr. Stein are extremely aggressive and unprofessional. I unfortunately had LASIK surgery here and it was a traumatic event. Post appointments have also been equally as horrible. I was yelled at by Dr. Stein himself after asking for help. I actually feel unsafe going to any of these offices. They are not providing safe and quality care. Please be careful. I did allow the office to try to fix their mistakes over the past month and it has only gotten worse. They also over charge immensely in comparison to the technology and care they provide. They will happily take your money and traumatize you along the way. Please read the reviews. Had an appointment for my 9 year old today. When I got to the office, they didn't have the correct insurance information. I called my son's father to get the missing info and he was at work and had to contact HR. It was taking some time and they told me that I could self pay ($120) and when I got the info, they would then submit it and return my money. While back in the exam room, I got the correct info and returned to the front desk to give it to them. They told me there was a $10 copay. I said great, just give me $110 back (I paid cash) They told me that they couldn't do that! The office manager comes over to confirm that they couldn't return my money that I had just handed over about 15 minutes ago. She said its their policy, they'll mail me a check. This was also followed up by two doctors that I had explained my frustration with. How ridiculous is this!? It's really a shame as this office is super close to my house, but there are plenty of other eye Dr's around, it's not necessary for me to deal with this kind of practice. read more

Had an eye exam and didn't feel comfortable as it was not as comprehensive as previous exams. Called next day and explained my apprehension. Found out it was an intern who did my first exam and Dr agreed to do recheck. Dr had chip on his shoulder and said the prescription was correct. I still didn't feel comfortable. Scheduled appt to look at glasses. Showed up for appt and no one was there. Had front desk check book to see if I had wrong date. Nope. It was marked down. Had glasses made elsewhere. Long story short, I couldn't see out of my new glasses. Had another eye exam elsewhere and found my prescription was wrong. Had to have glasses remade with new prescription. I had a very good experience at Total Eye Care in Newtown. I have not been to an eye Dr in so many years that I can't even remember the last time. I had to have something checked in my eye and long over due for an exam. I was able to get an apt within 2 weeks of my initial call. I filled out the paperwork before hand. I printed it out from the web page. Easy enough. Saved me from doing it in the waiting room. I was seen with only a 10 min wait...maybe not even that long. But it was the Technician that was with me first. He went over my health history, operations, meds etc. The Dr came in shortly after. It is a busy office. I liked Dr Stein right off the bat. He was friendly and informative. I felt as though I was in good hands. He diagnosed my issue and prescribed an antibiotic which was sent right to my pharmacy. He also revommended two additional over the counter products. Both of which they sell at this eye office. Very convenient, however, while I was waiting for the Dr to come back in my exam room I checked Amazon for these two products. One was the exact thing and the other was close enough. No surprise...I saved $30 total dollars and ordered both from Amazon!! Just fYI on that. Overall, I was very pleased with my visit. read more

Waited over an hour and a half for a follow up appointment at the Newtown office (actual visit with doctor was 15 mins.) This is not uncommon, a few months ago they had me wait over 2 hours at the Levittown office and even had the nerve to tell me that they "might not be able to see me." Extremely rude front desk staff does not help their cause. Since March, I have been seen by a total of three of their doctors. The first two completely misdiagnosed me (Dr. Stein was a nightmare to deal with.) Dr. Lavrich and Dr. Cianni are the only doctors at this practice who have an idea of what they are doing. Steer clear of Total Eye- especially if you value your time! Dr. Stein needs to retire and they need to get more respectful receptionists! Dysfunctional and rude The administration lady at the front desk was impatient, rude and made me feel I was wasting her time. She even scoffed in my face. After the visit I was trying to get help because of a billing error (basically they got paid both by me and my insurance company). I have been trying to reach a real person to help me on the phone, but it is impossible with their automated voice system. I have left 3 messages in the past 2 weeks, but never got a call back. To be fair, I must say the medical staff and Dr. were professional and did a good job. I still give them two stars because of the way they are treating me. read more

Unfortunately this was one of the few places that was covered by my eye insurance. I wish I had read the reviews before coming here a few months ago. The staff was nice but I felt like I was getting handed over to several different people throughout the whole process. I felt pressured into getting a possibly unneeded surgery (previous doctor did not discuss surgery at all) or else I could go blind. Contacts were ordered with incorrect prescription, and I had to redo a test at a machine about ten times before the machine would work (fault of machine or person administering, who knows!). I have very little trust in this office now and won't be returning. read more

My gut feeling from the moment I walked in the door was to walk out. The front desk staff is rude and lacks basic customer service skills. After spending most of my time with a technician who had to leave the room and check with the doctor repeatedly, I was annoyed that I really only had about 5 minutes with the doctor. However, maybe it was good it was only 5 minutes as I was berated and chastised over the way I take care of my contacts. I am not 4 years old, I am capable of having a rational conversation, the theatrical drama was not necessary. I need an eye physician who cares not a dictator who feels I need to be disciplined. I want my $120 back, I paid for a professional service and trust me this less than professional. Now I have to get a second opinion about my diagnosis that I think was blown way out of proportion. Dawn, the office manager is very pleasant and professional. She always has my paperwork ready. She calls my insurance company to check my benefits. I've been a patient at total eye care for many years, and it has totally gone downhill. While I understand that it is common to have eyes examined by a student, I wouldn't expect that a checkup would take an hour before I see the doctor. I will never use this company again. They never called me back after my glasses were in. After several attempts to contact, I finally went in and my glasses were there. Surprise, it was only two weeks late. Then I called to get my prescription in order to get some sunglasses made somewhere else and again I got the run around and every obstacle they could come up with to prevent me from getting the info I needed in the time frame desired. they would not fax to me, they said it would be 2 days before they could fax to the other place, then I had to go by and pick up the prescription myself. DON'T BUY GLASSES HERE. The optometry department (Roe is the reps name) was horrible! I was looking around for a pair of glasses to buy and she couldn't even help me pick out a pair of glasses that would look great to my face. I should've just walked out then! I purchased 2 pairs glasses and the cloth that was given to me scratched a pair my glasses. Went in a couple of days later and she could not see the huge scratch on my glasses after I physically had to show her. So she did ordered a new pair for me after all of that. I called for 4 weeks and left countless voicemails for Roe she never called me back. The last time I called, I requested a manager and ironically Roe called the next morning. Lucky me, my glasses were NEVER ordered! So I had to wait even longer. Even when I went back in, I was very frustrated i had to wait a month for new lenses, this women couldn't even ask how I was doing or even apologize for her mistake. At least offer me something! People continue to write bad reviews for Total Eye Care and yelp continually deletes these reviews. I just don't understand. My mother went to Total Eye care for dry eye and was billed just under 700.00 dollars, and people wonder whats wrong with our medical care in this country. The receptionist were rude and nasty, and the doctor talks down to you, as though you owe him your life. If you like being treated poorly, while being over billed, then Total Eye Care is for you. Would not recommend this place to a seeing eye dog. read more

I have BCBS with Davis Vision and should get an eye exam once a year free of charge which includes refraction. However, AFTER my exam they informed me that it would be billed through the insurance as a medical expense and that I had to pay my copay plus $50 for the refraction part of the exam. I questioned this and they said if I wanted to use the vision coverage i would have had to see an optometrist rather then the ophthalmologist that I saw. I was NEVER told this before my appointment however. Be warned. read more

You know that feeling when you get off the phone with Comcast. This place is 100 x worse. Dawn, the receptionist, is so snotty and inpatient. The lack of customer service was very shocking to me. Even though I was presenting my insurance card they did not believe that I had insurance and tried to get me to pay. I got the insurance company on the phone and they refused to speak with them. So I had the insurance company fax over eligibility and they still were trying to negotiate with me. There was no voice of reason, problem solving skills or customer service skills. My daughter has needed specialized support for an eye condition, and Dr. Lavrich has been excellent. We have seen clear and steady progress using an eye/brain training program and periodic check-ins. I have been going to total eye care for several years. There is always at least a one hour wait from the time of your appointment, which usually takes up to six weeks to schedule, until you even see the assistant. Today was the straw. I sat in the exam room for over an hour with no contact from the dr or staff. It wan 't until I walked out that anyone paid attention to me. To make matters worse there were two individuals that came in to dr. Laver itch after me that we're seen as discharged. This was my final visit to these dors. I will be seeking more responsible care elsewhere. read more

Very unorganized! Last visit I was called to come in earlier than scheduled (along with everyone else in the packed office) and sat and waited past my original appointment time! I'm a big fan of the optician, Roe, at their Optical Shop. She is very knowledegable about fitting glasses, even hard to fit progressives. She's very patient and sticks with it until the fitting is correct and you're happy with the way the glasses are feeling. read more

Will never this place again and also recommend to other people as well. Had my daughters eye exam in August 2013 at their Newtown Center. We called try schedule her before August, but due to insurance restrictions, it only can be done in August so they scheduled the appointment for August. 2 days after the appointment got a phone call that I owe them $120.00 for exam coz it was not covered by insurance even though the date was given by Total eyecare after checking with insurance. When they were asked that why i was not told at the time of appointment, they said that someone called and left message on my phone stating that there will a charge of $120.0 for this visit(that was a straight lie, someone tried to covert themselves and blame someone else). After i paid $120.00 , we filed the claim with our insurance which was approved and paid to totaleye care on 12 Oct 2013. After receiving a letter from my insurance i contacted the person on 15 Oct 2013 at total eye care who was listed in the letter to process the refund for $120.00 and after talking to her was told that i will get a call back once she process my refund. After waiting for over a month, i called that person today 11/26/13 asking for my refund, was told that it was processed and some from Levittown Center was supposed to mail that check which revealed that check was never made or mailed. They are very effecient in sending you bill and do not hesitate a collection call either. I cannot stand lier, lazy and ignorant people. will let evey one know who I know to avoid this place at every cost, this will save you some money and time and aggravation. read more

I went to Dr. Christine and she was very nice I had no problem with her. My Problem is with Dr. Stein I was 42 and had cataract surgery and after surgery I immediately knew something was wrong. He told me it was too early for me to tell him that. Well I was right he totally destroyed my near vision in my right. I have no near vision in my right eye and have to wear glasses now when I had near perfect vision. I had another surgery to fix the scar tissue it made it worst I had the specialist from Bausch and Lomb and she said my far vision is perfect and I had to tell her 5 times it is my near vision. She had no idea what was wrong. Then he perform lasik surgery on my eye which he didn't charge me but he charged my insurance company. And I stll had no near vision in my right eye. I went and got a second opinion and that doctor said his measurments were off . He jacked it up big time! Not only my eye but my Dad had cataract surgery and he popped a blood vessel and his pressuer went up to the low 30's and had to rush him to Willis Eye Hospital twice because Dr. Stein didn't know what was going on. To top it off they charged me $25.00 to release my files to go to a different doctor. I will never go back and would never recommend this doctor or practice to anyone. I also had a very unpleasant experience with the staff. It was my first time in the office as a new customer and when I entered the Newtown office, seven women were chatting away. No one stopped to greet me or welcome me to the practice...I got to hear all about what they thought of someone's pregnancy and what they were going to have for lunch while I waited for a greet or eye contact. My follow up with the Levittown office was no better. The office staff is very rude and confrontational when asking a question. They seem to enjoy "putting you in your place" when their is no argument. Women are very rude with greeting customers, When calling to get answers regarding wrong information I was given, the lady on the phone, who wouldn't provide me with her name, was very rude to me. The office is not very clean and I was seen by an intern not an actual doctor. Needless to say I am a one and done customer with total eye care centers.
