I found this salon on google wanting to support a local business. I called this past Monday to make an appointment for a blow dry. I spoke with a very sweet girl who set it up. As an afterthought, with the current state of the covid numbers and overflowing of local hospitals, at the end of the call, I said "you guys do wear masks and require your customers to, right?" She said they did not but if it made me more comfortable, she would wear one for me while doing my hair. I thanked her and that was sufficient for me. I was glad to be able to support during this hard time for many hairstylists and realize that misinformation has a strong hold in this area. Today, two days later, I got a phone call from a man, I'm assuming the manager. He said "you wanted masks worn during your appointment, right? I'm calling to let you know we won't be doing that, not wearing them, and if you knew what was good for you, you'd know a mild case is the best thing for you and the community." Totally baffled and caught off guard by his abrasiveness I said "But that's not true, I'm a healthcare worker who worked covid in NYC.." he cut me off and said "well you should know virus-ology then!" ....... in my 7 years in healthcare I've never heard of virus-ology... VIROLOGY maybe ;) but I digress. The conversation did not end well or nicely. I am still flabbergasted by how confidently and unapologetically he spewed such nonsense. In this area, it's so backwards that maybe this review will even earn them some business but I'm baffled that for the sake of one of their customers they couldn't wear the mask, if requiring them for the safety and health of his employees is not enough. I asked him to please be careful and he hung up in a huff. I write this so you all know, if you're trying to stay safe during this pandemic, don't waste your time calling for an appointment here, and don't expect common courtesy or decency either. Very disappointed in the world today and this is a pretty good, succinct picture of why. At the end of the day I mostly feel sorry for the poor sweet girl who was going to do my hair who sounded fine with wearing the mask, and who I'm sure is not in a position to turn away business this year, because who is? Before hanging up, he sneered at me that no one in their salon has gotten sick yet. As someone who has personally seen the darkest and most devastating side of this epidemic in the epicenter, I thank God for that. For the sake of these stylists and their families, I pray they all somehow continue to defy the odds despite flagrant disregard for science and reason. read more

I'm a first time customer and only went based off of reviews. I went for a simple trim and while washing my hair, I was bombarded with talk about God, abortion, and how young people want to take money away from the rich from my hair stylist. It made me extremely uncomfortable to be thrown such heavy topics when I just wanted a haircut. Even if I agreed with everything that was being said or not, it doesn't matter. It was extremely unprofessional and the business did not cooperate under CDC guidelines. Not one customer or employee was wearing a mask, which Louisiana is under a state mandate for all businesses. Which I was told another negative comment concerning the health crisis that is affecting millions of people around the world. He also boasted about not welcoming back people who disagree with his views. His knowledge and tips about haircare were overshadowed by the stressful atmosphere he created, which is a shame. If you're not a white, cis, straight, christian man or woman- I would not recommend going :-) read more

While on a quest to find the right color and style for myself I stumbled across your salon. Lucky for me indeed. I was greated right when I came in and felt comfortable. I do not remember the name of the young woman that shampooed my hair but she really knows how to massage the scalp (excellent). My consultation was detailed and and then the color and cut was exactly as expected. It was very interesting listening to all the things being explained to the trainee (I think I learned too). I would highly recommend your salon and will be back when the shaggy look takes hold. read more

This is a review from when I went here last year. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because I felt really unwelcomed. The stylist said about 4 sentences to me. There was another stylist that was talking to her client, and my stylist would chime in on their conversation. It was really strange and uncomfortable. The cut was okay. I went to Total Changes about a month ago desperately searching for a stylist who could fix my home coloring mistake. After living here for almost three years and trying a couple of salons with mediocre and one disastrous result I have found my forever stylist! Paula is wonderful, patient and talented. This was by far the best haircut I've had in at least five years. My thin listless hair looks full and shapely. Paula colored and added highlights and made my hair pretty again. I saw her husband coaching a new stylist and helping a customer with a difficult color situation and his expertise was evident. I can't wait to go back. Even after seeing bad reviews about Total Changes Hair Salon, I still decided to give it a try. Cash in hand I walk in no one else there but me and my two kids I asked if thay had time for 3 hair cuts! The res pose from the so called Christian owner said yes but who will watch my children while I got my hair cut! I said I had a child leash for my 1 yr old and my 7 yr old can watch him by the chairs for waiting customers. Then I was told no that wouldn't work and I had to have an adult to watch them both!!!. I then stated that's to bad you discriminate and don't even give a person a chance my kids are very well behaved and if not, I leave and pay for it even if I'm not done. The owner then stated well that's how we do it here and I left. Then I went to Saturdays hair salon not only was i invited in but was treated with respect , as were my children (after all thay are little people)! Thay also had a childrens color area but my children didn't even use it because thay were very well behaved. I also am picky with my hair being long thick and very curly, and thay did just what i asked for and it was a wonderful experience! As a christian I was Very disappointed in another Christians actions and some times people who don't claim to be any kind of religion really follow CHRIST in there actions as in the latter salon. read more

I did not have a good experience here at all! I made an appointment with Terrell Methvin for a cut and color. I told him that my hair was in his hands. I was not sure what I wanted, but I was tired of the same cut and color I have had for over five years. He pulled out this color wheel and explained his analysis of my color. I thought it was cool that he did that, but the color turned out to be only a shade darker than what I already had and the cut was exactly the same, only and inch shorter. No big deal. What made me really uncomfortable and unhappy was his political and social views that he insisted on expressing while working on my hair. Neither of these topics are appropriate "shop talk" while working on a customer's hair. He made me extremely uncomfortable, but since my hair was in his hands, I let him rant on out of fear of what he would do if I asked him to put a sock in it. I would never go back to the salon, even if it were with another stylist, and I will never recommend it to anyone else. Mr. Methvin is completely inappropriate with his topics of conversation. read more
