I often take the wait it out approach allowing time for the body to fix itself. The wait it out approach has worked for me at times; however, under the circumstances I am about to share, I greatly benefitted from the care and knowledge of Rita. I started noticing slight pain in my right arm over the summer. I just ignored it, hoping it would go away. The pain continued to get worse until it was extreme. An orthopedic surgeon suspected herniated discs. A review of the MRI confirmed his diagnosis. With this confirmation, I asked the doctor for an action plan. He gave me a handout of stretch exercises along with the following options: have spine surgery with a two or three-week recovery period, try pain management therapy, which would be given as an injection, or to live with it. None of these options seemed ideal. He prescribed five medicines that came from a compounding pharmacy. Of course, the medicine had side effects. I tried taking some of the medication but stopped. Then I tried a regimen of ibuprofen and acetaminophen, but because of side effects discontinued. A friend suggested that I make an appointment with Rita. I was apprehensive, thinking it might relax me but not help my arm. My friend said to try it as an experiment. At this point, I felt that I would not be able to return to my teaching job in the fall. Thankfully, I did schedule an appointment. After my first session, I did not experience immediate relief from my symptoms but felt like the massage was beneficial for my body. I continued with fourteen weekly appointments. Each week my pain lessened in one area and then would become noticeable in another part of my body. While this is a massage, it seems like more. Instead of just relaxing the body, Rita works with the body to find the source of the discomfort. I am happy to say that I do not experience any pain in my right arm and hand now and have a full range of motion. Occasionally, I feel a little numbness in two fingers, but it is mild and seems to come and go. I am grateful to have found Rita and to have escaped surgery, shots, medicine, and pain. I encourage you to seek her help if you are trying to get better. If you have no pain issues, I suggest you treat yourself. Rita creates a relaxing and nurturing environment much nicer than I have experienced elsewhere.

Called for a same-day appointment and the woman who answered the phone was very polite and accommodating. When I asked to confirm pricing from what is on the site, those are up-to-date and accurate. They are very easily located on Silber right after the entrance to the Edwards Theater. The lobby is clean and not dark and sketchy, with no cheesy music playing or blackout curtains. I went for the Combo #2 (80 mins total, 40 mins back/shoulder and 40 mins feet/head/arms) and Helen took the most amazing care of me. The pressure was hard, which I needed, but not painful; she truly worked on my issues and didn't just rub oil on my back. When we were finished, I got dressed and went into the other room for her to do my feet and I just wanted to sleep. She placed a warm therapy pillow on the lower part of my back and got to work while my feet soaked in a tub of warm/hot water. Helen proceeded to really work on my feet, legs, and toes! But only after she did a great job on my head (why do head massages just put me to sleep?) and then neck and shoulders and then placed a warm therapy eye pillow on my face to allow me to really sink into the second part of my appointment. I also love that the massage beds are heated so you don't get cold. Afterward, they give you feedback based on what they noticed during your massage. Mine was that I could benefit from stretching more. My only complaint this visit was that there was a guy nearby laughing really loud throughout most of my massage. The message therapist had no clue what she was doing, the cups kept falling off on the floor. She abandoned cupping altogether and started an extremely deep tissue upper back massage because I was "very tense." The cups didn't stay on my body more than 45 seconds, and not more than 2 at one time. This woman was completely ignorant of the technique- it would have been better if they just said they didn't have the availability. I am really have a hard time believing she was a certified massage therapist. Trying not to be mean I just wrapped up the massage and proceeded straight to the front. I don't see any certificates and I don't want to be rude to ask - but I'm never coming back so it doesn't matter. I had been here a few times and that made it may last. The problem is: I'm more sore TODAY than I was going in. And down I have a headache from the deep tissue mess she was going in my traps. I play tennis the morning and life must go on but she did more damage than good. Never, ever going back. There are so many places in Houston to get cupping therapy, this was a joke!
