It is…read morelocated at the lovely Casa Bonita, a Star Diamond recipient hotel and the menu fuses elements of Asian cuisine with Oaxacan and Mexican cuisine in general. It has two seating levels, ground and a raised dais. We chose the dais. Service was very attentive. Our original selection of wine was not in stock and instead we took their recommendation for a Monte Xanic Sauvignon Blanc Viña Kristel. In addition to the 3 salsas (Habanero and orange, Chapuline, and Chipolte mayo) and tostadas, we were surprised with a hot shrimp consomme. While the digital menu appears to be quite large (97 pages), the layout contributes heavily to its length). Since we had come for dinner, we started with an order of the Red Snapper Ceviche as an appetizer. We asked about its size, as we were planning to share and they told us it was small and would we like it divided for each of us. We very surprised the portions we were served appeared to be full sized for each of us. Dinner selections were the Garlic Noodles with Lobster (noodles with garlic and oyster sauce. Pan seared lobster with parsley sauce and white wine) and Roasted Thai Tuna Steak (Grilled tuna with coconut milk sauce and Rice). Desert was the Famous Lemon Cake (more of a lemon meringue) and a Sweet Corn and Cheese Flan with Caramel. We thought the meal was exceptionally well prepared with the possible exception of the lobster; we thought it was the slightest bit overcooked. If we could change anything, we would suggest an updated cocktail selection Menu link - https://www.menudigital.com/casa-bonita-hotel-boutique-&-spa Nos habían sugerido que el restaurante era muy bueno.

The Reforma neighborhood is obviously a very posh part of town - nice shops and quiet streets. Casa Oaxaca Café is an oasis - an open courtyard layout with wooden tables and lots of flowers. The service is exquisite and Chef Alejandro's food is divine. We started with the homemade breads from the basket that they are walking around with. Each slab of "quick bread" was 19 pesos and came with the jam of the day. We split a slice of the carrot bread and the "butterfat" bread with the mango jam. The carrot bread did not really need any adornment as it was so moist and delicious - remarkable because raisins can dry bread out. The butter bread was also quite moist, but it was a blank canvas if you will and the tropical mango jam really sang on it. We split a couple of the tempting egg dishes. We had the fried farm fresh eggs (a perfect easy to medium with vibrant yellow-orange yolks with bacon (TOCINO!!!), black beans and herbed homemade tortillas (82 pesos or just over $4). They were some of the best eggs that I have ever had - a tortilla with a shmear of black beans, a bit of egg and some bacon and a bit of salsa roja is a breakfast taco that I could never have imagined possible. (The eggs are cooked on the comal, and it does something really special.) We also had the Huevos Rancheros (105 pesos or $5.25), which was a tortilla fresh of the comal topped with a couple of those perfect eggs, a warm salsa of tomatoes, onions and aguachiles and a couple of slices of fresh cheese that was grilled on the comal. Oh my goodness - that sweet and slightly spicy sauce with the unctuous and rich eggs was mind blowing. I wasn't a super big fan of the cheese, as it was a little tough, but it was not needed. We did have a chapurrado as well (35 pesos or less than $2). I thought that this was different from the chocolate atole. After having had it, I think that it is the same thing with a local name versus an explanatory name. It was an amazing meal with warm and lovely people. I only wish that I could get Chef Alejandro's cookbook, but I can only find it in Spanish!

An Oasis on the outskirts of Central Oaxaca City. It's definitely worth the walk!…read more The Patio is a tropical haven from the heat. You have to try a few items on the menu and share plates. We ordered a few items and were completely satisfied with everything! The food tasted extremely fresh! Just look at the vibrant colors that cover the plates. The Toast Con Pina was a delicious way to finish breakfast, which was served with a side of fruit. I'm not going to describe the food here, because the pictures I was able to capture say it all. The color, the texture, the layers, the aroma...as they say, you eat with your eyes. You can sneak a peek at the ladies in the back making the bread from scratch in an open-space area that's hard to ignore. You are captivated by every inch of this place. The live music by a violinist, just "wow"!!! Oaxaca is represented well by this place!

Step off the sidewalk a few steps into a gated street to find this gorgeous courtyard restaurant…read more At 6pm, I had the place to myself. This hidden gem has a small but diverse menu of fresh and tasty dishes. It's mango season, so I jumped at the salad option. I could have had more jicama, but the salad is a nice change from the meat/tortilla/queso diet I've been on the last week and a half. Ceviche is a big deal in Oaxaca, and this is one of the best I've ever had. The coconut milk is an unexpected and refreshing twist that adds a depth of flavor to this delicious fish. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sauvignon blanc from Baja, California. This lovely Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday and breakfast only on Sunday and Monday. Check the Google Maps listing for hours, that seems to match what's posted at the restaurant. And if you're wondering what a Chepiche is, it's a Mexican herb apparently similar to cilantro often used to season meats. That explains the very herb/vegetable forward menu. Reminds me a lot of California farm-to-fork cuisine. Great Playlist of extremely romantic soft rock/folk music in Spanish. I've been Shazamming almost every song! This is not my cheapest meal in Oaxaca by far, but sometimes self care looks like a date night for one. Thanks, Chepiche Cafe. You were just what I needed and more tonight.
