Kua Mexican Kitchen is an authentic Mexican restaurant that prides itself on having traditional…read moredishes which are "truly" Mexican as opposed to the popular Tex-Mex style that dominates Mexican restaurants nowadays. Right off the bat, I would recommend Kua mainly because of the fact that it is one of the few Mexican restaurants in The Hague, plus it is the only restaurant (that I know of) that serves traditional dishes (the rest are Tex-Mex). So if you're used to Tex-Mex, I would highly recommend to go to Kua and try the traditional style Mexican food, as it is totally worth it. As for the service, the waiters are friendly. No negatives there. Despite my positivity about this establishment, there are some negatives. Firstly, the dishes are quite small. This is a shame because it's not advertised as a small plate/sharing type place. Secondly, the restaurant itself is also small, meaning that there isn't much space available, which leads me to my third negative point, you 100% need a reservation. Since the restaurant is small and good, it's quite popular. This means that it's always full and it'll be hard to get a table without having a reservation. Overall, I would recommend Kua mainly because of it's authenticity and the quality of the food. It may not be the best Mexican food ever, but The Netherlands isn't known for it's Mexican cuisine, meaning that Kua is the best restaurant available.

La Cucaracha is the reason why, I grew up in Leuven and frequented this restaurant regularly. As a result I compare all Mexican I eat with this joint and often I am disappointed. The food is really good, the menu has been unchanged for a long time but like they say: never change a winning team. By the way, if you do long for some variation, you can go for their daily special. I have tried most dishes on the menu, but I typically go for Antojitos Mixos which means mixed appetizer but I eat it as a main and I can guarantee, you won't regret it: it is a flour tortilla with 10+ dishes on it. You will be filled with Mexican goodness! The service is also on great: you can feel the warmth of the people serving you, they are helpful, friendly and polite. The only minor downside is that it is always packed so they are often super busy and it is sometimes difficult to grab their attention (also make sure you get a reservation!). After leaving Leuven, I still long for the great food and service. It is more than a nostalgic feeling, every time I go back the food manages to convince me that La Cucaracha is a great eat. Highly recommended.

I loooove Mexican food but unfortunately the general idea of Mexican in Belgium is to be avoided. Enter Tranquilo. My friends and I made a reservation for a Friday evening and good that we did because the place was packed! Go for the menu, it helps with your FOMO since they will serve you all dishes on their menu: loaded nachos & guac, all quesadillas and all tacos. The nachos were truly loaded, not like some other places where they give you one slice of tomato and a single jalapeno. The quesadillas were tasty but in my opinion not cheesy enough. But the stars of the evening were the tacos: that evening they had sweet potato, pulled pork, lamb and zucchini. To be honest, if you would have had me choose a la carte, I would have gone for pulled pork but it ended to be my least favorite. The sweet potato and lamb ones were delicious and even though I was quite full, I wanted more of them. The service was a bit hit and miss, maybe because they had a quite large group that evening. They were a bit slow but in the end, we got our drinks refilled and the food came out at a decent pace so since it is the first time I actually enjoyed my tacos in Antwerp, I am willing to be flexible. I will be back!

We chose the "tasting menu": the nachos and guacamole were good, though one out of the three we ordered had no corn or beans. I did really like the house made sliced, pickled red peppers (not at all spicy). Quesadillas were disappointing, especially the cheese quesadilla, which had four different cheeses (Gorgonzola? Really?), that were not fully melted. Tacos were tasty (even the sweet potato with dried candies garbanzo beans), but the tortilla reminded me of a wonton wrapper and was TINY! This was definitely the first time I've had curly parsley on a taco. Odd, but not bad. Not sure I would go back, but it was good to experience. Service was very friendly.
