As a larger lady, plus size gal, or curvy girl, it is difficult to find cool, fun clothing that fits, in a convenient place like the mall, and that is not outrageously overpriced.
Now when I was young enough to want cool clothes in my mall (Florence) without having to drive to the Tri-County Mall ( why why why is that place out in the middle of nowhere?) , I was much smaller and fit into "regular" sized clothes. So it is odd in a way that there is a store in my mall for larger ladies, yet the focus is on those 20 to 10 years younger than me.
Alas, I still want to dress hip sometimes. It is difficult when you are large to find women's clothes without some sort of hideous print, or kitten on the front. The belief is that you must be large because you are a grandma and therefore we will dress you like one. According to Target, Macy's Catherine's, and even Lane Bryant being big means only dressing like you are going to work, a schlumpy dork who knows naught about fashion, or a total slut. Oh and don't get me started on how Target mixes the maternity and the plus size sections ( calling pregnant women "fat", and "fat" women "pregnant" are total no-no's)
Torrid say "Bullsh*t!" to this notion. Torrid tell the larger girls they can be not only hip and cool , goth or punk, but SEXXY. And I don't mean sexy as in out on the dance floor slut, but sexy in your comfy everyday attire.
I have bought great jeans, t-shirts, jackets, skirts, and cardigans from Torrid in the last few years and they are still cool and comfy. I always feel non schlumpy when I put on their clothes. Plus they have a great clearance section.
There are 2 main reasons I didn't give Torrid 5 stars. 1) I am 10 years too old for their target audience and 2) their prices when not on clearance are a little steep ($40 for a shirt? $60 for jeans?)
However, I will continue to go back, until I go on that diet I have always intended and start working out. When I do get to small to shop at Torrid anymore I will still covet their one of a kind, fun , sexy, cool style though. read more
