Not mentally though. Torrance says fuck you to the mentally disabled.

Not good for the easily confused. Even the students cannot find their classrooms. And twice now the front desk has pointed in a direction. I flat out asked her to call an escort or for someone to come to me and she said no the first time i was here. This time was nothing in response until i called the district in front of her and said no one was helping me

This where they filmed the 90's tv show Beverly Hills 90210

Living in Torrance my whole life this is just another local high school to others this is an iconic TV show location. Well it's both I guess you can say. This is one of many high schools within the Torrance area. This is where they filmed the 90's show Beverly Hills 90210 I believe that's when it became more of a popular spot to check out. They have filmed many other things here as well like Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. One more interesting fact about this is in front of the school is a memorial of a Medal of Honor recipient Ted Tanouye. This is a nice high school and has been around in Torrance a long time. This would be one place to see when visiting Torrance if you're a fan of the show's mentioned.

Cue the 90210 theme music

Oh Torrance. Although I dreaded dragging myself to your classes for four years of my life, looking back I suppose I was lucky. Certain parts of you were pretty and other parts of you were neat little pieces of history and other parts of you were on TV. I started school right as they ended 90210 and started filming Buffy, which might seem cool, but I always thought it was annoying. Being late to class because they were filming or not being able to eat lunch where I wanted to because equipment was everywhere... not cool when you're a kid. So, I forgot how cool it should have been until my lovely friend from Missouri was visiting. Megan, or as we call her, Missourah, had told me what a nut she was about Buffy. I mentioned that my high school was Sunnydale, but didn't think about it again until we were headed down the 405 after a visit to Santa Monica. On a whim, I pulled off at Crenshaw and whisked her away to Buffy fan heaven. It was a weekend, and the gates were open, so she got to check out the senior pond (where almost all the shows & movies filmed) and of course the famous front of the school. After seeing her enthusiasm, I thought about forgetting and forgiving all of my annoyers in my younger years, and so here is a much nicer yelp than what would have been ten years ago.

Hrmmm... This school was was OK. The only thing I honestly…read morereally miss about this school is some of my old teachers and my counselor. I was in the magnet so whenever I needed assistance, I was helped out really quickly. Now that I'm in college I feel the way the regular kids felt since they had to go through waiting and long lines to get something done. Anyway, most of the food is disgusting and unedible. I loved being in the magnet but the school overall was turning somewhat ghetto.

Unfortunately, my time at Narbonne High School was disappointing. The school appeared more focused…read moreon securing federal funding through programs like the No Child Left Behind Act than on equipping students with essential life skills. As a result, I struggled in college and ultimately ended up under conservatorship. One of the most difficult experiences I had was with Mr. Waller, a history teacher who did not respect his students' First Amendment rights. He frequently imposed his political beliefs on his 10th- and 11th-grade students, encouraging them to be "Patriots" rather than "Kaepernicks." Personal political beliefs have no place in the classroom, especially when they make students feel alienated or pressured to conform. His lectures were hard to follow due to his fast speaking pace, and the classroom environment was often distracting. This made it difficult to take effective notes. Since his exams were primarily lecture-based, I struggled academically, which hurt my chances of being accepted into universities like UCLA or USC--places where I could have built valuable career networks. I also experienced bullying from a classmate, Daisy Mateos, who took advantage of my autism and gaslighted me. Additionally, I had difficulties interacting with another student, Karem Sadek, whose severe autism made social interactions more challenging. Karem did not respect personal boundaries--he failed to keep his hands to himself, and on one occasion, I had to run away from him. During a group yearbook photo, he placed his hands on my shoulders, which made me extremely uncomfortable. His influence contributed to the circumstances that led to my conservatorship, as he exposed me to potentially harmful topics like gun ownership and alcohol consumption. The school's bureaucratic system also posed a challenge. I often had to involve my mother just to get the support I needed, such as being enrolled in the right classes or switching teachers. Furthermore, I had an issue with Ms. Pascua, who refused to let me attend my speech therapy sessions, even though they were part of my Individualized Education Program (IEP). She insisted that Mr. Kobata did not allow students to leave without an office summons, despite the IEP team's recommendation that I attend these sessions to improve my articulation skills. This lack of support negatively affected my communication abilities. Another discouraging experience was with Mr. T, who advised me not to take AP courses because I planned to attend community college. Looking back, I realize that taking AP courses would have better prepared me for the academic demands of higher education. Peer pressure was another problem at Narbonne. My classmates pressured me to attend Grad Nite at Disneyland, warning me that I'd regret it if I didn't go. Now, in my 30s, I can confidently say I don't regret missing it. Ironically, when I attended California State University, Dominguez Hills, I was required to take a course on consent and peer pressure before registering for classes--something that should have been taught in high school. If I had possessed the knowledge and confidence at the time, I would have pursued legal action against Mr. Waller for violating my First Amendment rights and against Ms. Pascua for failing to uphold my IEP accommodations. For parents considering LAUSD schools, I recommend the following improvements: 1). Require Ableism Training for teachers and staff to better support students with disabilities. 2). Mandate Financial Literacy and Life Skills Courses--including laundry, cooking, safety, job interview skills, sexual harassment and consent education, and peer pressure awareness--starting in 9th grade as graduation requirements. 3). Consider Homeschooling as an alternative for students who may not thrive in traditional school environments. 4). Require Teachers to Complete a Public Speaking Course to improve their communication skills before entering the classroom. 5). Prohibit Teachers from Sharing Personal Political Beliefs in Class, ensuring that classrooms remain inclusive and respectful of all students' perspectives. Implementing these changes could help create a more supportive and effective learning environment for future students.

J H Hull Middle School - 03/21/2026 Math Field Day - 7th Grade 1st Place Winner: Magruder Middle School

Review #980 2026-046…read more Let me preface that this review is for an event that was held at J.H. Hull Middle School... J.H. Hull Middle School is 1 of 8 middle schools serving students in grades 6 - 8 in Torrance Unified School District. It's named after the 1st TUSD superintendent, Dr. John Henrich Hull, who served as superintendent from 1947 - 1970... at which time TUSD grew from 4 to 41 schools. Opened in 1970, JHHMS was originally built using steel portables from defunct Madison School, which closed in 1969; the school was later rebuilt & reopened in Fall of 2011, & is currently the district's most technologically wired & environmentally efficient campus. For 2025 - 2026, the school is helmed by Principal Jackie Ryan & supported by Assistant Principal Kimberly Lee. The 2026 TUSD "Math Field Day" was held at J.H. Hull Middle School, hosting the past 3 years. It's an annual competition that focuses on computational skills, conceptual understanding, & complex problem-solving while encouraging teamwork amongst elementary (starting from 4th grade), middle, & high schools students. Winners received medals & trophies for their school, & top winners from each quadrant advance to the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Math Field Day, usually held in April. My son competed for 1 of 4 spots representing Hickory Elementary's 4th Grade Team. It's a 2-part competition that consisted of an individual 10 question quiz (20-mins.), followed by a break, then a series of questions for the team (30-mins.), ending with an hour break while the scores are tabulated. The students loved the "trail mix" snacks that they got during breaks... my son says it was candy galore with trail mix, gummy bears, popcorn, M&Ms, chocolate chips, goldfish crackers, etc.!! And totally worth the after school hours to enjoy these treats (can you feel the eyes rolling?) & wants to come back next year. GREAT/FUNNY TEACHERS OF MY TIME: Mr. Lal, Mr. Leibner, Mr. Blankenship, Mr. Watkins, Mrs. Winnenger, Mrs. Derama, Mrs. Tuitasi, Mr. Neal, etc. I can't remember any more! hahaha! GREAT MEMORIES: -A lot of other Filipinos hated on me because I was the first MALE FILIPINO in Carson High to get with a BLACK GIRL out of REAL LOVE instead of SHOCK VALUE....NOWADAYS, it's quite normal to see a lot of MIXED COUPLES...BUT...to this day, you still don't see BLACK GIRLS with FILIPINO GUYS or VICE VERSA...it's funny, but true. -"Backyard Wrestling" at Carson High was awesome...me and my friends didn't follow the trends, instead...we made our own trend and got everyone to conform to us....we ended up in UPN, MTV and more! -Trendy-ass students chilled at the front showing off while the gangs fought each other. -WEED was the main drug of choice among teens back then....nowadays, I hear that it's stupid shit like METH and CRACK....wow. NEGATIVES: -Their restrooms SUCKED...did not have ANY DOORS, plus people would try to mess with you. -SOME (not all) teachers just sucked. -Ignorant Jocks and Gangs pretty much ran the schools along with the popular peoples....not all of them were assholes though. -My Filipino race were into their stupid rice rockets that their parents bought them...it was annoying....a lot of them (not all) were such narrow minded trend followers and that same thing went for all the other races that acted the same damn way. -Back then, SKATERS were NOT CRACK HEADS and SKATERS DID NOT WEAR GAY SKINNY JEANS LIKE TODAY...SKATERS back then were REAL SKATERS that had a REAL STATEMENT....THE SAME WAY HIP HOP and HEAVY METAL FANS has a REAL MOVEMENT after Kurt Cobain, J. Dilla, 2 Pac and Biggie died....unlike TODAY where most kids in Carson DRESS UP MOSTLY (not all) just to LOOK COOL. FINAL THOUGHTS: I loved and hated Carson High....but when it comes down to it, my experiences there made me what I am today....that was then, and I hope many of you grew up....much love to all Carson High Alumni!!!!!

School Year 2010-2011…read more We moved in April and I have been trying to take care of this with your office since May. Your office was very harsh with me telling me my proof of residency I was able to print out online was not good enough- not letting me finish my sentences and discuss it and try to understand- but just saying "no" over and over again. I left that office crying. That is not a feeling I expect when dealing with a school office. Over the summer, I checked your website daily hoping for some information about when you would open and what I needed to do. To this day the website still says "Interdistrict Permit for Torrance residents- Information sheet- Coming soon!". I emailed you on Friday, August 13th to find out what date your office opened and you responded on Tuesday, August 17th and told me that you were open from M-F from 8:30-4:30 being closed for lunch from 2-3. I waited for my last piece of appropriate proof to come in the mail, and I showed up with my children on the morning of Friday, August 20th. There was a note on the door saying you were closed. On Monday August 23rd I brought all of my paperwork to you, which you still tried to tell me was not acceptable even though your office told me exactly what to bring, and you told me you needed to process my application and I could not leave with my release letter. I tried to discuss with you what my options were and you finally looked at me and offered to pull mine out and get it done ASAP. You told me I could pick up a copy so I could hand it over to RBUSD. I followed up with you the next day and you responded as if you did not know me with a blanket answer that the permits would be mailed out and I could not pick them up and you could not fax them. I have not received anything in the mail as of yet and I have missed registration for both kids on Wednesday August 25th. Today is Monday August 30th, and the kids start school tomorrow. They will be late to class because we missed registration and have to register at 9AM tomorrow. I cannot register them without the permits in my hand, and the problem is I only received a permit for ONE child from you in the mail on Friday and the RB school office received NOTHING. Later on August 30th: I showed up today to pick up a permit for my other son and you were so rude and didn't smile and didn't apologize for me not receiving it. You snapped your gum and mumbled something to your co-worker about the apartment number missing. You handed me the copy and I said Thank You and you said "uh huh". I have sent another email since asking- just so I could be properly prepared- the procedure for renewals. I got NO RESPONSE. I do not appreciate being treated like this and I personally think you should be doing a much better job. I do not agree with you working for the benefit of my children and think you should think about the way you treat people as well as represent the Torrance Unified School District.
