This school was so incredibly damaging to my child. He went into the school with what a public…read moreschool would call an IEP. They wrote him something called a "step program", They never followed it. The teachers berated him and treated him as if he were a bad child. The "dean of men" told me that he would never treat my child any differently than the other kids. Even though, my son struggled with some neurodivergent issues. We are still dealing with the repercussions of having gone to this school. Do not send your child to Bishop Montgomery High School. Particularly if they are neurodivergent in any way.

This school is a gem. Several of the faculty have been teaching here for twenty-five years. They're…read moreunquestionably qualified and experienced. Academically, parents don't have a worry. However, where SBCS leaves other schools in the dust is what they manage to achieve OUTSIDE the classroom. Class size allows the faculty to focus on EVERY student and their needs. No one gets lost in the crowd. That means if your child is dealing with any issues, they'll be noticed and get the attention they should get. This school is all about teaching to the whole individual. Learning to handle responsibilities, conflict, impulse control--the faculty have it under control. If you don't just want your child to grow up a competent math student, then this is where they should go to school. They'll learn how to be moral, caring, thoughtful, and self-aware people (who are also good at math or English or ...!). They've also had a new principal for two years now, Kirstin Born, who taught for twenty-five years before assuming the top position. You couldn't ask for a more savvy, sensitive, experienced person to guide the school. She bends over backwards to meet the needs and requests of her students' families. You won't complain about crickets if you approach Mrs. Born with any concerns. SBCS is great for any student, but it is a gift to students who need extra attention and personalized care in the hands of loving, experienced teachers and administrators.

I have been having a very unpleasant experience with this school. This isn't my children's home…read moreschool thankfully but it is their summer school. Therefore I would have expected better attitude from all the staff. They are rude along with the principal. Asking them a simple question seems nearly impossible, the lady seemed fustrated with all the parents. Drop offs as well they dont open the gates until 8 so have all the students and parents waiting. Got a call my student wasn't enrolled and then that she was. Very unorganized, summer school shouldn't be held at this school.

But what hasn't changed is that while my child is at school, he is safe, happy, learning and growing up to be a good human in this difficult world. He always has, and continues to acquire skills and traits at school that I feel are important beyond academics, such as being of service, being a confident speaker, good social skills, empathy for others, and a respect for his environment/community, just to name a few. Since my last review, we have had the pleasure of having Mrs. Hofmann in 1st grade, Ms. Nakae in 2nd grade, and currently Ms. Flores in 3rd. We have enjoyed all of them as teachers. Mrs. Hughes is still going strong as the kindergarten teacher as well. We also have a new principal this year, Mr. Kim. Mr. Kim has truly been an amazing leader so far. I am so grateful to have him at our school. The office staff is also wonderful. Our school community may be small, but it is filled with families, staff, and teachers who truly care about making these children's elementary and junior high experience a great one. Nothing ever stays the same, and that is okay! We are fully embracing the positive changes that are happening at St James. I am honestly so happy that we chose this school community for our child, and will continue to do all we can to support the students and the growth of the school, as I know it can only continue to get better and better!

Their middle school program offers small class sizes, field trips, sports, electives, and much more. My daughter made lots of friends and loved most of the teachers. She got good grades all throughout her middle school years and earned academic honor roll and other achievements both academically and for sports. During her 8th grade year, her class did a very memorable missions trip and went to DC. She told me that it will be a year she will never forget. The staff was great and very supportive. Mrs. E did a wonderful job in her new role as the principal. Coach Phil is a special person who was always available to the students when they need someone to talk to. He was a great coach, pe teacher, and yearbook teacher. My daughter loved coach Phil and I am so grateful for him. Mr. Shook was another favorite. He taught science and history. My daughter enjoyed him because he would always crack jokes and make everyone laugh. Mr.Shook was a great teacher, however, sometimes, I think he should keep his political opinions to himself. That was the only thing that kind of made me uncomfortable. The other thing relating to staff was the staff turnover. My daughter had a different English and math teacher every year. Which was annoying because she would build a strong relationship with them, then they left and she would have to rebuild. I understand that isn't the schools fault. But it did interfere with math and her math grade. Overall, my daughter and our family loved Valor! We highly recommend this school if you are looking for a small close-knit Christian school community. We felt safe sending her which was a big deal considering the unfortunate times that we live in. Thank you Valor for all the wonderful memories and for providing my daughter with a great Christian middle school experience. Please let me know asap when there is a Valor High! :)
