I made the decision to move my son to ECMSG in 7th grade after he struggled behaviorally during his…read more6th grade year in a much larger school system. Something we had never experienced before. It ended up being one of the best decisions we could have made. At ECMSG, the Dean and his team did an incredible job holding my son accountable for his negative behavior while also recognizing and reinforcing his positive efforts. That balance truly helped him get back on track. Because the school is smaller, there is much more individual attention and staff really pay attention to the details. The supervision staff genuinely care about the students and build healthy, supportive relationships with them. On days when my son wasn't feeling his best, he could easily request a check-in with the counseling team, which made a huge difference. The office staff is always warm and welcoming. They consistently go above and beyond their job descriptions. The school also provides strong support for parents by clearly explaining the grading system and offering tutoring to help students stay on top of missing assignments. The Special Education department is patient, accommodating, and incredibly supportive. The Principal is highly involved not only with the students, but with the surrounding community as well. He builds meaningful relationships with the kids and truly listens to parents. He has an open-door policy and never makes you feel like your concerns aren't important, which was very different from our previous experience. Their outdoor education program is another highlight. The students learn hands-on skills and how to solve real-world problems in meaningful ways and we get invited to come hear the kids present on their learning. I am extremely pleased with our experience and highly recommend ECMSG to any family looking for a smaller, supportive school environment where students are truly seen and supported.

Their middle school program offers small class sizes, field trips, sports, electives, and much more. My daughter made lots of friends and loved most of the teachers. She got good grades all throughout her middle school years and earned academic honor roll and other achievements both academically and for sports. During her 8th grade year, her class did a very memorable missions trip and went to DC. She told me that it will be a year she will never forget. The staff was great and very supportive. Mrs. E did a wonderful job in her new role as the principal. Coach Phil is a special person who was always available to the students when they need someone to talk to. He was a great coach, pe teacher, and yearbook teacher. My daughter loved coach Phil and I am so grateful for him. Mr. Shook was another favorite. He taught science and history. My daughter enjoyed him because he would always crack jokes and make everyone laugh. Mr.Shook was a great teacher, however, sometimes, I think he should keep his political opinions to himself. That was the only thing that kind of made me uncomfortable. The other thing relating to staff was the staff turnover. My daughter had a different English and math teacher every year. Which was annoying because she would build a strong relationship with them, then they left and she would have to rebuild. I understand that isn't the schools fault. But it did interfere with math and her math grade. Overall, my daughter and our family loved Valor! We highly recommend this school if you are looking for a small close-knit Christian school community. We felt safe sending her which was a big deal considering the unfortunate times that we live in. Therefore I would have expected better attitude from all the staff. They are rude along with the principal. Asking them a simple question seems nearly impossible, the lady seemed fustrated with all the parents. Drop offs as well they dont open the gates until 8 so have all the students and parents waiting. Got a call my student wasn't enrolled and then that she was. Very unorganized, summer school shouldn't be held at this school.

A lot has changed since my original review, when my child was in kindergarten at St James. New…read moreteachers, new staff, new principal. But what hasn't changed is that while my child is at school, he is safe, happy, learning and growing up to be a good human in this difficult world. He always has, and continues to acquire skills and traits at school that I feel are important beyond academics, such as being of service, being a confident speaker, good social skills, empathy for others, and a respect for his environment/community, just to name a few. Since my last review, we have had the pleasure of having Mrs. Hofmann in 1st grade, Ms. Nakae in 2nd grade, and currently Ms. Flores in 3rd. We have enjoyed all of them as teachers. Mrs. Hughes is still going strong as the kindergarten teacher as well. We also have a new principal this year, Mr. Kim. Mr. Kim has truly been an amazing leader so far. I am so grateful to have him at our school. The office staff is also wonderful. Our school community may be small, but it is filled with families, staff, and teachers who truly care about making these children's elementary and junior high experience a great one. Nothing ever stays the same, and that is okay! We are fully embracing the positive changes that are happening at St James. I am honestly so happy that we chose this school community for our child, and will continue to do all we can to support the students and the growth of the school, as I know it can only continue to get better and better!
