(There are some other coffee shops in Paris that are similar in style, but if you *don't* eat animals and their secretions, any time you go to one of those "cool type" shops you have to settle for just a cuppa.) No! Us vegans want something to EAT, by jove. Thank God for Grounded. Everything is delicious and creatively presented, the hot chocolate is actually made with melted dark chocolate (um, SO GOOD,) and their menu is always evolving with the seasons. AMAZING food, guys. I'll be back -- hungry -- for more of their savory fare.

The two items we ordered were both SO good. We ordered some sort of toast that has almond butter, hazelnut butter, jam, and coconut flakes. It had the perfect amount of sweetness to satisfy a slight morning sweet tooth. The other item we ordered was the bowl of the month (or maybe it's the bowl of the week?) It, too, was wonderful, and so filling! Grounded is really cute and cozy inside, but I will say that it was HOT in this small space. Also, there isn't much seating in here. Maybe enough for 12-15 people. Still, the food here is incredible and the man working at the counter was so kind. Definitely stop in here if you can!

Every single person is sweet and knows what they're talking about. They eat their own food and you can tell as you can ask if the special is good and they will be brutally honest with it The ambiance is typically French neighborhood-style bistro! People are nice and can talk to each other. The crowd is a mix of people visiting and people living in the neighborhood like me who go there on a weekly basis to have a nice warm meal that stays affordable and with a nice service. I highly recommend this place.

The duck confit was a little salty but very tasty. The beef tartare might not be everybody because it is raw meat and can be slimy for some people. However I loved it, and I think anyone who comes to France should definitely give it a shot here. Again it's a primer at an affordable price. Inside is nice and quaint. The waitress didn't really speak a lot English but she's really nice and tried her best. We got what we needed as we exchanged my broken French and her basic English. They take cash and card.

Oh hi hello Mokonuts! I love their mint green storefront. Lunch is reservation-only which is…read morecompletely valid for their tight space inside. You get real friendly with your table neighbors :) No matter, because I think the homey cafe vibe is what they're going for. It's run by a hardworking Japanese-Lebanese couple, and you can taste how fresh everything is. If she wasn't so busy, we would've chatted with her more! Small regret not trying their wine, but we had just landed in Paris that morning and the jet lag was hitting :P This was our first reintroduction into their more leisure dining culture, no phones and only conversation. If you come hangry, you might have a more difficult time with their longer wait times and smaller portions (please remember it's a cafe/bakery, not a full-on restaurant experience). I would come back just for their desserts because their ingredient combos are so whimsical!

Oh, how I loved dining at Mokonuts in Paris!…read more The unusual name caught my eye when I first started my restaurant research. But it was the reviews and feedback that cemented it as a "must do" for me. We managed to get a resy at this tiny (22 seats), lunch-only, Mon-Fri only, Mom and Pop shop. And it lived up to the accolades. Super-vibrant Moko Hirayama greeted and seated us. She's an ex-NYC lawyer and amateur baker turned professional baker, plus front of house wizard. Back in the miniscule open kitchen we saw her husband, Omar Koreitem, furiously finishing prep and start to cook at 12 noon sharp, all with just one other staffer. By the way, this Japanese - Lebanese couple just released a fabulous, beautiful cookbook (Mokonuts, Phaidon Press)... and it tells the story better than I can here. Suffice to say - highest recommendation - order it today! On our visit in November, my wife and I ordered almost the entire lunch menu, small by design, but absolutely terrific from start to finish. Check out some of the photos... *Organic Chicken, Pomme Ratte, Bruxelle Sprouts, Jus *Slow-Cooked Salmon, Salsify, Endives *Hamachi Crudo, Sumac, Lemon *Labné, Puntarelle *Tangy Lemon Tart, Pomegranate, Coconut Cream, Quince, Tapioca, Pomelo *Various exterior, inside, prep, dining room shots, and more. Mokonuts is one of those special places you don't come across very often. If you're headed to Paris, please start working on securing a resy ASAP. If you're not travelling, get the cookbook and enjoy at home. Either way, you can't go wrong!
