It was my only day in the so-called "arts" district, so I figured all the fancy presentation on these goods would have the flavor to back them up. I ordered the plain cake because the other option was Oreo (lol that's trashy for an expensive place), and grinned with delight as it was put in a box AND then a decorated bag, like I'd just gone shopping for something that would last more than five minutes. It was delicious, with a very hard, dry consistency that was not very sweet. A bit on the tart side, indicating they are liberal with the sour cream, while conservative with the sugar. Definitely a great base for a more complex cake, but even though simple is good, the flavor just wasn't appealing enough for me to give it a full five stars. If you want a taste that's a bit more complex, totally go for the cupcakes. Especially tiramisu!

I'm picky with my cheesecake since I know that Jr. Cheesecake in NY has the best cheesecake and although Berko's cheesecake can't top Jr.'s it is still very good. They have original cheesecake and other variations which is great. The cupcakes are good too but as an American I found them tiny and expensive! They are a bit dry compared to American cupcakes but good nevertheless. They have a bunch of flavors so you can let your taste buds go wild in here. Great place to check out if your taste buds are getting a little homesick and the shop itself is adorable.

There was a line at the door, but it moved fairly quickly. Once inside, you're in a beautiful Beaux-Arts salon. Service generally is very good. The Chocolat Chaud is superb. There are other savories and sweets on the menu here. This time we tried a Mont-Blanc (3/5). I know this is Angelina's signature pastry, but to me it couldn't compete with the Chocolat Chaud.

Angelina, Paris, France -- April 12…read more Our family of four with kids ages 9 and 10 stopped here for lunch after visiting the Louvre, drawn in by its reputation for having the best hot chocolate in the world. We were looking for a place to relax and refuel, and the experience felt a bit mixed overall. Arrival and First Impressions The space is elegant with classic Parisian charm. The line moved quickly, and we were seated with a great view of the dining room. It felt refined but still comfortable. The Highlights The famous hot chocolate lived up to expectations, thick, rich, and almost more like a dessert than a drink. We also had French onion soup and an éclair, both of which were very good. The pastries were clearly well made and thoughtfully prepared. The kids had chicken tenders, which they enjoyed, even though the tomato sauce was a bit different from what they expected. The Challenges The biggest drawback was the price. The meal felt expensive for what we ordered, coming in at €154 for a fairly simple lunch. Service felt slightly rushed as they moved tables along quickly. Final Thoughts We would likely return if we were nearby and specifically craving the hot chocolate again. It is a classic Paris stop and worth trying once, but the value may not justify going out of your way unless that signature experience is high on your list.
