We also tried the smashed pumpkin and tortilla chips- this was amazing, would definitely have this again!!! For mains we both had the crispy skin salmon and scallops. This was served with a fragrant broth which smelled divine and had a nice kick of chilli in this. The salmon was cooked perfectly, as were the scallops. Perhaps a little less pepper on top of the salmon. Overall, a great experience. Will be back.

Granted, it was the middle of the afternoon, so I wouldn't have expected the messy drunks to turn up in any case. The bartenders were really friendly and accommodating, flashing smiles all around, which always makes customers feel better. Their cider, by the way, is the most delicious thing I've tasted in a while. It tastes almost like really strong sparkling apple juice, and is no less intoxicating for its deliciousness, not to worry. They have two well-maintained pool tables, the cues are unbroken and unblemished (which is a rarity in pubs, I've noticed), and they don't have any balls missing! Another rarity. The premises is really clean and well-kept, as well as being air-conditioned (though not too cold.. too cold defeats the purpose a bit, doesn't it) to perfection. Touchdown is the downstairs bar in the Rydges Hotel at Sydney Airport. The vibe here was laid back sports bar with a focus on beers, wine and simple drinks. Sadly, the beer list was short and standard (Australian macrobrews like VB, Carlton, etc.) The short food list was actually better than I expected, with a selection of apps (wings, meatballs), entrees (burgers, steak, salmon) and desserts. It was certainly enough to suit me, so I ate here for dinner and watched some local sports (continuing my increasing fascination with cricket). My burger and fries were pretty good, and just what I wanted. But after a few mediocre beers I decided to test the bar by ordering something basic. Specifically, I asked for an Old Fashioned (It's a never-ending quest). The young bartender got busy, muddling some fruit, adding sugar and bitters, before finally adding the liquor (which I couldn't see). The result tasted familiar, but strange...REALLY strange. I sipped slowly, but it never got any better. After about 15 minutes, the bartender proudly showed me the single malt scotch he made it with... [Insert Forehead Slap here]. No wonder it tasted strange - This drink is made with Rye or Bourbon only; and what a waste of a single malt! The chips were a massive serving and we couldn't finish those or the ones with the burger. But we tried our best! The smell of the lamb wrap was a bit odd but tasted fine. I think lamb has a distinct smell anyway....
