I adopted my furbaby On January 26. The whole process was long and brutal. I was about give up looking for a cat. Every shelter basically didn't have cats available. I was told that I will be put on their waitlist and someone will call me if a cat became available. But that never happened. I had to keep checking the site every week and as soon I found Rosina (I changed her name to Luna) I knew she was the one. Other than that after I found Luna the process was pretty quick and straightforward.

I adopted my little sweetheart just over a month ago.. I couldn't imagine my life without her now.. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly! You cannot beat the prices for vaccines and medications!! I really like how comfortable they made me feel during the adoption process. The interview with Alexandra was very smooth and she is such a sweet person! It felt like a real conversation about my life and the qualifications that needed to be met before adopting rather than an interrogation like other places I've been to in the past .. They also follow up with you within the first few weeks to make sure your little critter is settling in nicely ! A huge thank you to all the volunteers at the Humane as well, I'm grateful to all of you for giving the animals the love and attention they need

I brought my 6 month old kitten here to Spay last Wednesday and the entire process was fabulous! I wanted to write a review of the process as it was a bit challenging to get any detailed info online. Getting an Appointment: To begin with, you can only get an appointment during certain times of the month. Initially, I was looking to bring my kitten in during February but all the spots were filled already. I highly suggest adding their Facebook page because they will announce which day they start taking appointments for next month's surgery. I recalled that the March openings were announced sometime in February. As their lines opened up at 8:30am, I called on the dot. However, I waited around half an hour on hold and no one picked up. Instead, I hung up and sent them an email asking for an appointment and received an email back within 2 hours asking me to fill out a form. After sending them the completed form, I received an email back a week and a half later and they secured an appointment date for me on March 20th. I highly recommend reading all the information on their website as they don't take certain breeds (flat faced types) due to the higher risk. Also, it might be better to send an email to them requesting an appointment as oppose to calling as their lines seem to always be busy. Day of the Appointment: The Humane Society requires you to bring in your pet between the hours of 7-7:30am to check in. There is limited parking space so I highly recommend arriving early. Once you arrive, you have to go all the way to the back, which is where the bright green door is and form a queue. I arrived at 6:45am and there were already 5 people in line ahead of me. The doors opened promptly at 7am and each person took a form and a number. While you fill out the form, you wait for your turn to be called by your number and you bring your pet inside for the initial examination. They also ask you some brief questions while inside. I was number 6 and it was around 7:20am when I brought my kitty in to be examined. You then go back outside in the waiting area and wait to see if your pet gets approved for surgery. I got called back in at around 7:40am and they told me that my kitty was approved for surgery but did explain that because she is a British Shorthair, she has a shorter airway and required a tube down her throat, as oppose to a sleeping mask. I was required to sign an additional waiver because of this and they explained to me that they would take all the necessary precautions. At around 8am, I was called to the front, paid for the surgery and then left. They do notify you that the may call you in case something happens. Therefore, NOT receiving a phone call from them is a good sign. Picking up your pet: The Humane Society requires you to pick up your pet at 4pm sharp or you will be subjected to a late fee. I arrived back at the centre at 3:40pm and parking again was almost full. While you wait for your pet, they play a video regarding the post-op instructions. They also hand out your pet's spay/neuter certificate and the post-op instructions on paper. At 4pm sharp, they brought out the pets. Surprisingly my cat was pretty energetic when she came out. Since then, she has been healing well. I am surprised at how small the incision was. There is also a small green tattoo next to her incision to indicate that she has been spayed. My kitty is healing very well and has adjusted well to the e-collar too. Cost: The cost of the feline spay is $80 (tax in). You would also be required to purchase an e-collar which can range from $5 to $12~ dollars depending on the size of your pet. I also donated another $5 so the total bill came to $90. This is an amazing deal as my local vet had quoted me $510 for the same surgery. Note: I cannot stress the importance of arriving early/being on time as this will save yourself a lot of waiting around. I think there was 20 people the day I went and being early in the line really helps to speed up the process.

Don't wait until your cat or dog is in heat to think about getting them speutered. Thousands of adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in Ontario every year because there aren't enough homes for all of them. Breeding your pet and thinking "I'll find them good homes" or supporting breeders and puppy mills by buying animals from them, is just damning several dozen more shelter pets to an early and entirely undeserved death. Don't have $300-500 that the OVA racket charges to fix your pet at your average vet? (This is also why adopting a rescue pet is great, because they're already fixed and the cost of that surgery, vaccinations, and microchip is included in the adoption fee.) Go here. It will cost you $70 + HST to get a cat fixed. You can thank me later when they aren't bleeding all over your house or spraying urine on everything. The Humane Society's Spay Neuter Clinic is located off 11 River St, around back towards the parking lot. You'll see a wide ramp on the right side with a door on the far left. This is the entrance. Companions must be dropped off before 8am in a carrier (or trap if they are feral) and picked up between 4-5pm. This door is locked at all other times. There's no walk-in appointments, you'll have to go around front to the desk to inquiry in-person. If you want to book an appointment, call the number listed here and leave a message. You should hear back from them within a day or two and be able to schedule a date. If you work during the week and can't your pet in Tues-Friday, they do have a Saturday clinic as well. They don't operate Sunday and Monday. Fixed dogs and cats lead longer, healthier and happier lives. The burden of reproduction and the toll that takes of their body and health is gone. No more cat fights over territory. No infections of the uterus that will cost you 3x as much to fix than a spay. Rescue, spay, neuter, foster, adopt, donate & support!

Adopted Josie from this THS. Sweetest cat in the world (to me).

We adopted our beautiful kitty from here, she was an old girl when we adopted her, but my husband and I knew she was our cat as soon as we saw her (we looked at cats for 2 days straight here). We have had our kitty for almost 4 years now and love her to bits. This branch of the Toronto Humane Society is really nice, I can only comment about the cat section since we never went to the dog section since we couldn't get a dog due to the size of our apartment. They have a lot of cats here ranging from kittens to senior cats. When we were looking for our cat we spent 4 hours on the first day checking out all the cats on one side and the next day all the cats on the other side. The cats all seem clean, and the staff labels the cages with the cat's name and their characteristics, for eg they will say if a cat has a certain disease like FIV so you know what you are getting into if you want this cat, and they also have bonded pairs together and the cards have memos to tell you that you must adopt both cats. I really appreciated the fact that the staff allowed us to wander and take our time checking out all the animals, and did not bother us but was available if we had questions. I did not feel pressure to adopt any animals until I was absolutely sure. The adoption process was pleasant, we had our IDs and filled out several forms, and made a donation. The staff also told us our cat's idiosyncrasies, what she likes and how to take care of her. For eg. we were told that our cat does not like other cats, hence by adopting her, we can not adopt another cat, I appreciate that they knew so much about each cat and told us everything up front before we adopted, and all the tips to keep our cat happy and trained. We also got a couple of months of pet insurance for free. All pets gets free pet insurance and a clean bill of health when they are initially adopted. Overall, I would gladly return to adopt another pet when I am ready to adopt another one. For now, thank you for my Josie, she brings so much joy to my husband and my life.

Hit and miss. Not many dogs and cats this trip. I have got a pet here before (unfortunately it died from parvo in 2 weeks :( I like most of the staff, some are quirky (volunteers), the interior is cold and old feeling. Could use a revamp.

THE MOST AMAZING DOG PERSON IN TORONTO!…read more Caryn is the most passionate dog lover and dog expert you will meet. Her involvement in our dog's life began before we even adopted! She gave us advice and support through the adoption application process, was one of our references, and even accompanied me on the trip to meet and decide on our Malik. She's always there for advice, and she is amazingly well-read and educated on the subject of dogs. Her own dog, Parker, lost a leg in an accident before being rescued and adopted by Caryn. You can tell as soon as you meet Parker that he has the most wonderful life a dog could have. He, like Cesar Millan's Daddy, has a magical effect on other dogs and often accompanies Caryn's clients on walks. Whatta Pup! is the business born out of a tireless dedication to and deep passion for dogs. You can't go wrong if you're working in a field you adore! Caryn offers walking, let-out and visiting services, obedience training, behavioural consultations, selected grooming, and special programs such as dog-safety for children. Caryn makes it possible to pay for classes online as well as manage your schedule online. So the flexibility of the courses was a really great feature for us as our schedule is very inconsistent. We're graduated now but our experience here was memorable to say the least! The puppy social class offered exactly what it stated. The room was very clean and well organized. The instructors were very helpful in answering our questions about my puppies behaviour issues I had been experiencing. Caryn is extremely sweet and you can tell she really loves what she does! The male instructor (Sean I believe his name was?) was one of our favourites! He always seemed to have the perfect treat for our puppy that made her pretty much grovel at his feet!!!!!! Something I thought she'd never have the attention span to do! All instructors had a very pleasant demeanour and seem knowledgable even to your specific breed (impressive)! They gave me a great feel on what to expect when my basset was able to go into the real world and how to encourage good behaviour. The only complain I would make would be about the facility itself.. It's very industrial and I'd like them to be able to expand their business into something maybe more inviting? (The building is a bit sketchy on the outside) but the experience was more than I could ask for. I will be enrolling in more classes in the future thats for sure!!

I don't remember all the details because this happened during a very traumatic time in my life where my father was diagnosed with an illness so I was trying to deal with that as well as struggling to make ends meet, so my memory may be a little hazy. I intially signed up for TCCE back in January or February of 2019, and I recall the winter weather was particularly bad that year. There were a lot of weather warnings, and TTC delays. TCCE often had to cancel their classes a few hours in advance due to the road conditions (it would have been dangerous for the teachers to drive to TCCE in that weather). There was one particular class that I was unable to make it to, either because I got terribly ill, or due to the weather conditions (I recall getting awfully sick at that time but can't remember if that was the reason why I had to cancel a class). We'll call this "Class X". Either way, the winter weather wasn't great, so I asked to cancel and reschedule, and TCCE OK'd it. Soon afterwards (I believe a couple months after), my father suddenly fell sick, and I had to move in with my parents all the way up in Woodbridge in order to take care of him. I explained that due to personal circumstances, I'd like to request a refund of the remaining classes I had, as well as the one I had cancelled. TCCE gave me a partial refund, and said that I couldn't get a refund for Class X, because I had wanted to reschedule. I can't recall how the conversation went exactly, but I believe I explained that I was no longer able to do so because of my personal circumstances, and TCCE basically told me that regardless of their refund policy, they can't give me a full refund and basically a big "F You". After I got angry and said some mean things, TCCE removed me from their Facebook group which is for all PAID MEMBERS, which I was. They revoked my access to the content that I had already paid for, only issued me a partial refund despite their refund policy (I don't know what their policy is like now, but at the time, if you gave them a certain amount of notice, you were able to get a refund back for the unused classes). Honestly it seems rather silly looking back, but TCCE's response to my family member's illness and other extenuating circumstances really upset me and react much worse than I would have had they shown me some kindness and understanding. A little goes a long way.

My fear of doing the wrong thing was affecting my dog and was making me an ineffective dog owner. Jason corrected my behaviour so that we could correct my puppy's behaviour. Nobody ever tells you just how much work having a puppy is and Jason put my mind at ease and gave me the confidence to take her out and not over react to situations because now I KNOW that she will come when called. With Jason's help I learned to enjoy my puppy and everything that comes with being a puppy. I realize that her puppyhood is short lived and I am enjoying every minute of it. Within my first meeting with Jason I learned the basics of what to do and what not to do, what dogs need in order to thrive, (and no, it's not just bones and love) and how to properly communicate with my dog to let her know what I want from her. Trust is key in a relationship with your pet and I wouldn't have learned that without Jason's help. No amount of reading puppy books or talking to other dog owners will give you the in depth knowledge and hands on experience that Jason will provide. If you're doing something wrong, Jason will tell you and understand that this is what's best for your pet. Mango and I both love Jason and would highly recommend him to any old or new pet owners. THANK YOU! Thank you Mellow Vibes…read more We were referred here by a friend of ours who had a dog with aggression issues so we saw first hand what Mellow Vibes could do! Our dog, unlike most the dogs that I've seen in the reviews, is on the other end of the spectrum. Kaia is a 5, almost 6, year old husky/shepherd mix who has anxiety and fear and had zero socialization with the outside world and people. We adopted her at 4 years old and at that point, she was terrified of people and the world. Zero aggression, terrified of the world and a consistent flight risk. She would shut down when she saw people. If she could, she would make herself disappear from the world. Cowering, shaking, bolting, tail permanently tucked. Anything to get away. She couldn't function. We were having trouble bonding with her in the full year we had her because she was just so scared. Walks with her were full of dragging and bolting. She's pulled myself and my boyfriend over before when she was in a panic. She was incredibly stubborn with her commands. We eventually bit the bullet and contacted Mellow Vibes. They were the first trainer (and people in general) we talked to that did not judge what we did. The amount of times we heard from other trainers and people that we should not do this or that with our dog out of our desperation to build a bond with her (like letting her sleep on the bed with us or on furniture). They were the first trainers that understood where we came from and why we let her get away with certain things. We didn't feel judged for the first time or like we were being scolded. Instead, we got understanding and compassion. Paul spent 6 weeks with her. Let me tell you this, the amount of care and time he spent with her is astounding. Our dog was scared of EVERYONE but especially men, children and the elderly. Yet somehow, on our first meeting with Paul, she was calm. Paul kept us updated with her progress, pictures, videos, answering any of our questions or concerns. When it was finally time to pick her up, Paul trained us on his techniques of dealing with our dog's issues. We were met with a dog that listened to commands and when we did our walk with Paul, holy moly we were able to walk through the busy busy streets of downtown. Later that day, we were able to walk her through a busy park with so many screaming kids. We. Could. Never. Do. That. Before. EVER. She seemed to adore Paul, always looking back at him for reassurance and a bit of confidence. I almost felt bad taking her home haha. You could tell she was at ease with him and she was WELL LOVED in her time there. YOU DO NOT HELP A DOG LIKE OURS BY "BREAKING THEIR SPIRIT" OR ABUSING THEM. Now, I don't think our dog will ever be a people dog but we were taught how to manage her issues and she, herself, was slowly learning that people, objects, etc would not hurt her. At home now, she is generally a happier dog. More smiles, more tail wags, more following us around (she never wagged her tail or followed us around like this before). Mellow Vibes truly has helped her come out of her shell. They continue to follow up with us with messages, phone calls for more tips or to answer any of our questions. The rest is now up to us to keep up with the training and to continue to develop our relationship with her. You do not rehabilitate a dog like ours with anything but love, patience (oh so much patience) and compassion.

My Review maybe Long but its Important!!…read more My dog Shannon has been with Craig and Sally's Pack from the time she was 10 weeks old. I have had several dogs in the past and always thought that dog walkers weren't necessary but thanks to Dog Tired Toronto I have a completely different attitude. A home isn't a home without a dog but I have a very demanding career and thought it wasn't fair for the dog to be on her own allot so I decided to get a dog walker and that's when I found Dog Tired. Craig gracefully volunteered to come meet my family, (my family includes my dog Shannon) and we just hit it off. He has a great personality, is young and vibrant but most importantly very professional; he was hired! From the beginning Craig was on time and punctual always keeping me in the loop of what's going on and how Shannon was doing. I just love their Facebook Page and I love seeing my girls pictures there and how much fun she is having. I've even tried their Stay-Cation services, it was by far the best and Shannon had a blast and I knew she was safe! This part is the important part that I want you all to read: I knew Shannon loved Craig and his wife and I was happy with their services but I just don't think I really knew how important they were until this past week when Shannon went to the Vet to get Spayed and had to stay at home for a week. 0 - M - G!!! For the past 6 months I kept telling everyone what a calm, loving Black Lab I had and how she sleeps all the time and cuddles; has never torn up anything and has a great personality. Well one week away from Dog Tired and I have a Menace on my hands!! In the past week since she has been in the house lazing around she has eaten my favourite shoes, ripped my Persian rug, is moody and barks at everything in and out of the house. I have come to the realization that not only does Shannon need Dog Tired Toronto I NEED DOG TIRED!! I can honestly say that it is money well spent to have your fur baby go on an outing with Dog Tired Toronto. They socialize with other dogs, they are happy, well exercised and come home rested. Its the best investment I have ever made. Craig and Sally will always have employment with me and I think if you haven't called them you need to call them today because they are AMAZING!
