This place was my childhood, bookstore when I went to revisit it in my mid 20s I pretty much bought every single thing I didn't have enough money to buy when I was a kid and it was still there. I was so happy I love that place I don't care what people say. I will always go back when I get a chance and I'll buy more stuff so hurry up and get what you can before I come back, pretty chill guy just as I remember him when I was a kid. I grew up coming to this store, and I'll drive out to Long Island from Queens just to go and browse. The owner/operator, Darren, is the nicest guy in the world, and will help you find anything, as will any of the other employees present. Tor Comics is hands down the best store on long island to buy comics! Prices are extremely fair and affordable. It's a small shop, but its filled with comics. Golden, silver, modern age, they have it all. If you are looking strictly for comics, this is the place to go! They have some toys and pops, but their comics are what makes them special. Tor comics reminds me a lot of comic book shops I used to go to as a kid. It even has that "old paper smell" I love so much. Trying to find the place can be a little difficult if you've never been there before. The sign outside says it's a "law office" and you would think it's just another law office if it wasn't for the giant Spider-Man statue outside. Once you're inside though, it's like a collectors paradise. Huge selection of back issues from the silver age to the modern age. Longbox after longbox of comics! They also sell vintage baseball/novelty cards and other retro goods. The owner was very friendly and was a pleasure to talk to. TOR Comics is an absolute gem of a store. They have a large collection of back issues with absolutely killer deals. You absolutely CANNOT beat 50% off back issues any day of the week. Admittedly, I tend to only purchase Marvel comics, so I cannot testify on the behalf of their indie/DC back issue collection, although I'm sure they have a fine collection there as well. I'm not sure on whether or not they have memorabilia as I do not buy those or look for those, but I have not noticed them. Getting new issues can be a little more of a gamble without a pull list, as they only seem to get a few copies of each new issue that comes out. That being said, I'm a huge fan of this store. I'll spend ages just going through their collection of back issues and be shocked at the register at how much of a bang for my buck I got. It's one of those places that make you ask, "How did I not come here before?!" A must-visit for anyone who purchases back issues without a doubt. I went to Tor comics for the first time today. And needless to say I was extremely disappointed. Albeit, I loved the single classic issues they have a plethora of. I came in with two different comic series I was interested in and literally all I received was a shrug of the shoulders and a "I don't have it". No suggestions or even offer to order it for me. Also, besides this, the salesman was playing a very, very illicit sex scene on the TV. That was completely unprofessional and awkward. God forbid a child walked into the store! Just because you're privately owned doesn't mean you shouldn't keep a comfortable atmosphere for your customers. Never setting foot in there again. read more

I have been going to tors comics for a few years and had no issues. A couple of months ago, I was looking for a golden age comic, as I was going to meet stan lee and wanted him to sign it. I was hoping to have something special to hold on to and pass on to my children. I went to tors and saw a comic behind the glass counter that I was interested in. I paid 100 dollars, although I let the salesperson know that I was willing to spend up to 400 on a comic. I trusted that everything was OK with the comic, as I never had any issues with them in the past which was a huge mistake. I purchased the comic, had it signed by Stan, and gave it to cgc for grading. A few months later the comic arrived at my doorstep. When I opened the box to my shock I saw the grade... 0.5. I was floored. It stated that part of the comic was cut out for a coupon which also ripped out some of the story. At no point did the salesperson ever indicate that this was an issue with the comic. If I had known I would have purchased another comic. As I stated, I let the salesperson know that I was willing to spend up to 400 dollars. It really bothered me that I was not told the truth about the comic, as stan lee is now retiring from conventions. Tors comics has lost a loyal customer and they should be ashamed of their practices. They really let me down. read more

I found out about this shop while at Eternal Con earlier this year. I didn't get a chance to stop by until a few weeks ago. I've got to say, I've never met a friendlier, more helpful staff at a comic book shop. As soon as i walked in I was greeted and one of the employees picked out everything that I needed for the past few weeks. The prices were very reasonable. All back issues are 50% off their listed price which makes it easy to catch up on things you may have missed. They have a nice amount of back - stock as well. This shop is a definite win. There are few comic shops on Long Island that really 'do' it for you. We all have our little niches, but aside from the crown jewels of Fourth World Comics in Smithtown (best comic shop i have ever been to, period.), TOR Comics is an awesome secret stash, if you are looking for Modern current and back issues, this is the place to be. I wont lie the place is an absolute disaster, books and boxes everywhere, but it kinda adds to the fun of the treasure hunt. Tor Comics is an Ideal place if you are looking to fill/find back issues, or pick up your weekly pull list. Aside from current and back issues, there arent many collectibles here. Tor Comics is definitely my second favorite comic shop on the island. read more

Absolutely fantastic store if you're looking for older comics, collector stuff, independents, or just plain uncommon titles. Or if you just love comics and want to browse for something cool. You could lose hours in this tiny shop. It even smells like comics. That being said. If you want popular current titles, go elsewhere. This shop doesn't even stock the whole line of DC's New 52 -- I'd say they carry less than half the titles. They don't order DC Universe Presents, I Vampire, OMAC, All-Star Western, or Hawk and Dove. Those are only the books I specifically asked about when I couldn't find them (this was February 2012 for reference), but there are many more titles that aren't stocked here. There's only one small countertop with New 52 titles on it (plus some on the wall in back) and I'd say maybe 20 or 25 different titles are regularly stocked, certainly not more. And only the most current issues of everything -- no back issues at all. I originally went to this shop intending to get issue #6 (which was the latest issue) of a few popular books, and also to get #1 - #6 of half a dozen books I wanted to try out. The shop did have #6 of some of the titles I wanted, namely the popular ones Batman, Superman, Catwoman, Supergirl. Not all by a long shot, see above for the titles they don't stock unless a customer asks for a special order. They had no Nightwing, I was told they do usually stock the title but it had sold out (this was maybe five days after the release date for that particular book current issue). They had no issues of anything prior to the current #6 (with one exception). The owner said he only orders a small-ish number of copies, if those sell out he won't get more in, and the copies that don't sell are usually returned to the supplier. He did manage to find two back issues of Supergirl for me, #3 and #4 I believe, in the stock room and not on display. He is a fantastic guy, very knowledgable. I was grateful he took ten minutes of his time searching through back room just because he thought he remembered he maybe might have a back issue of Supergirl. Very sweet. And as I said this shop is Mecca for general comic enthusiasts. I wasted a long time in there even though he didn't have most of what I'd come in for, I had to drag myself out, didn't want to leave lol. It's just disappointing when you visit a comics shop looking for the latest Batman and he hasn't got it, well okay how 'bout the previous issue? Sorry, no back issues at all. Oh well. Last week's Superman then? Aqua Man? Nope, don't have those, sold out the whole 12 copies I ordered and have no plan to reorder more, you're out of luck unless you want something from the 70s. I've been in half a dozen times over a few years and it hasn't changed. I simply don't understand how a comic shop stays in business when it never has any of the current titles. read more

This place is kind of a hole in the wall with weird hours but they have a lot of cool stuff, old comics from the silver age especially. They have ALOT of back issues and you can find some good stuff if you're willing to dig. read more
