When you phone back at 8.30am all you get is an engaged tone. When you finally manage to get through you are told there are no more appointments left that day. So you ask how do I make an appointment to see a doctor - phone back at 8.30am tomorrow. It's Groundhog Day. It is apparently possible to make an appointment for two weeks away, by which time you are probable better or dead. I've no idea how good the doctors are as I can't see one to form an opinion.

The interior was cozy enough, but definitely needed an overhaul in regards to equipment and a sterile impression. I'm happy to say that the offices now have moved to a new location opposite the road into a very modern building, specifically designed and built for the purpose of being a practical environment to serve it's client base. ALL equipment and interior is new. What I like about the place is the space. The waiting room is massive, airy and bright , compared to others I saw and the receptionists are very friendly, in person and on the phone. You also have the self service check in option. The toilets and facilities appear to very clean. In the beginning you needed to make an appointment in advance and most likely you had to call early in the morning, so that they could allocate a free spot to you. Nowadays, they introduced a walk in option in the morning, which runs from 8-10 am. You should arrive before 10 and check in. A doctor will be allocated to you. I believe that there are about 5 main partners/ doctors and a few nurses who help and take appointments for minor inconveniences. A community psychiatric nurse is also available, as well as Family Planning, community midwife and Phlebotomists. Consultation is by Appointment: 7.30-8.30 Wed &Fri. 8.30-11.00 and 2.30-5.30. House calls are possible, but shall be avoided. They take on new patients, who live within their postcode area. Appointments are about 10min long. The location is near to Haymarket!

This little pharmacy seemed fine enough to me when I stopped by today to pick up a prescription. I…read morelike that it's so handy that they pick up prescriptions right from my doctor so all I have to do is submit the prescription refill request and then show up here a few days later to pick it up. They cover all the basic pharmacy items and, although not overwhelmingly friendly, we're courteous enough. Because of the Royal Mile location and because I would think they are an independent pharmacy, their prices were quite a bit higher than the Boots around the corner. Their package of 16 paracetamol was £0.55 here, whereas Boots' were only £0.16. That said, it is convenient and handy if you need to stop in here, and it didn't seem unsafe at all to me despite what the other reviewer said.

On a recent visit when I nipped in for a pack of chewing gum, the various foul smelling, painfully thin and toothless characters waiting at the counter told me what that dark secret was. Despite the pleasant exterior, the lather large amount of skagheads that visit this pharmacy for their weekly methodone hit makes it a virtual no-go area at certain times of the day. I've worked on The Royal Mile for about six or seven weeks now, and have already seen two rather sizeable, drink and drug fuelled brawls outside. It really is quite astounding that the powers that be send the junkies here, to the city's main tourist thoroughfare, for their pick-me-up. Given that heroin addicts aren't known for their early morning "rise and shine" attitudes, as long as you get here before 1pm you'll be alright, and will find a quite lovely little outlet for all your pharmaceutical needs.

My local GP and I have no issues here and this is better than my previous practice…read more I've got a great GP here so she is really thorough and I've found the nurses to be stellar too. I've been able to either speak to someone on the phone or get an emergency appointment to see someone quickly. They also have early morning appointments before 8am which is great for those of us who have a full time job but you will need to book these in advance. So, great health centre and fortunate to be registered here.

I have been registered at this medical practice for 2 years and have had very mixed service. When…read moreyou make an appointment, it will be with any of the GPs, unless perhaps it is a follow up appointment and you specify whcih doctor you need to see. Without naming names, there is one doctor I have seen twice that is unfriendly and didn't seem interested in helping me at all. In contrast, I have since seen a different doctor who was very friendly, thorough and good at explaning things. I have also found the nurses great too. There is a self check-in screen, which is great, as it means you don't have to wait for reception staff to be free. You just click a few buttons and then take a seat in the waiting room. I have found the doctors tend to be running 10-20 minutes over time and the nurses more punctual. It is quite hard to get appointments outside 9-5 business hours. There is only one day a week that is open for extra early appointments, but these are usually booked well in advance. There is an NHS physiotherapy and podiatry service connected to the medical centre too. I have had physiotherapy here, which has been a good experience.

I have just had all my records transferred to another medical centre. Already I am happy with that decision. The fortnight wait for an appointment from as stated by the sullen receptionist was one step to far for me. Of course, I could get a phone call - as yet not even seen a doctor - and probably there was little chance of getting in to see one in the future. I am slightly phobic about going to see a doctor at all - and the all round miserable experience with this practice was certainly not helping. I looked at reviews on here and saw people recommending moving away - yes! I agree with that. My new practice already on the phone to me to discuss my application to be a patients - and was spoken to by a very bubbly and friendly person on the end of the phone. I dreaded picking up the phone at all at Bruntsfield. So I am gone - it feels brilliant! I would advice as well you think of doing the same - this place in recent years has gone down the tubes.

Ask any Edinburgh parent about the Sick Kids and you'll probably get a broadly similar response…read more It's an amazing resource for the city and a reminder that free access to healthcare professionals who really care is something for which we should be extremely grateful. I recently had to take my son in with an inexplicably (very) painful knee. The staff were unstintingly kind and turned what could have been quite a traumatic experience into something that bordered on fun ("I love having my bloods taken out"). We're not just talking toys in the waiting room - there was an 'art cart' loaded with fancy pens, stencils and bits to colour in and take home. Communication was superb, with both me and with Sam - he was never excluded or talked down to. He likes to know what's going on and I'm confident that the fact they involved him so much made the tests more bearable. Even beyond the treatment, staff members passing us in the waiting area often stopped to ask how we were doing and have a quick chat. The staff were extremely thorough, gave him loads of time and didn't diagnose him until they were confident they'd ruled out the more serious possibilities in several appointments over the course of a week. Obviously I hope we don't have too many return visits, but I'm confident that if we are ever back we'll get brilliant, personal care in a really sensitive, child-focused environment.
