They host an array of events and activities (some are free, while others are ticketed). Events and activities include live music, DJs, yoga, Zumba, and seasonal events like Winter Wonderlawn during Christmas and Lunar New Year. There are seven gardens which take up about an acre. There's signs throughout the lawn that explain the different gardens and various spaces. Sky Farm is operated by Blackwood Educational Land Institute and they focus on regenerative agriculture and cultivation of food. The Outpost can be rented for events. Yelp Houston has hosted some events at the Outpost in the past. During the summer, it gets very hot! They have quite a few covered/shaded areas and there's vendors throughout if you need water or a beverage. There's lots of seating too (both covered and uncovered). A visit to Post Houston isn't complete without making the trek up to Skylawn! The views alone are worth it!

Thumbs Up: POST has done an excellent job repurposing Houston's historic Downtown Post Office into…read morea multipurpose destination. Thumbs Up: The rooftop lawn and garden are beautiful and provide a relaxing place to enjoy the city skyline. Thumbs Up: Portions of the rooftop are dedicated to gardens that grow fresh produce, adding a unique touch to the space. Neutral: I wasn't able to determine where the harvested produce ultimately goes. I'm sure the information is available somewhere, but I don't recall seeing it during my visits. Thumbs Up: I can actually see my home from the rooftop. Thumbs Up: I've watched a few rooftop concerts from my balcony. Thumbs Up: As an added bonus, it's always entertaining to hear some of my neighbors complain about the "noise pollution" during HOA meetings. Living Downtown comes with unique advantages and occasional inconveniences. If someone can't tolerate city life, they may be happier living in the suburb provinces. Thumbs Down: Access to the rooftop is sometimes restricted during seasonal events and special art installations. I understand the need for ticketed events, but I wish general access to the public spaces could remain available whenever practical. Thumbs Down: I am able-bodied, but I couldn't help noticing that rooftop access appears difficult for visitors who use wheelchairs or have mobility impairments. The elevators are not easy to locate, and several were out of service during my many visits. Improving accessibility would make this space more welcoming for everyone.

    Spring Branch

Doesn't look like much when you drive past - okay, I'm using the canned Yelp message there - and,…read moreif you arrive at night, it's likely that you'll drive right past it. The Palladium is located on a one-way freeway frontage road, so you can't make a U-turn to get there if you pass it up. But it's not one to avoid. The Palladium is not a franchise of a nationwide company named after Arthur Murray or Fred Astaire. It's a local concern, and doesn't offer as much as the other two studios I listed. I've gone to their Latin events, and here's what it looks like: They have in-house instructors, and also bring in people from outside Houston. (I wrote about California's Kathy Reyes in two prior reviews, I hope she's reading this and makes the trip to Houston some time!) They have classes, and they have dance parties. Both are run well, charging market rates. Lots of parking. One medium-sized dance floor, two smaller studios. The bar sells drinks, both alky and non-alky. Restrooms are deep in the bowels of the building, down the hall to the left. The people who come are a good company, and are fixinta learn to dance better and to have fun. The social dance community of Houston is smaller than in other cities, so there's much overlap from one instructor to another, and it's likely that you'll meet someone there who you danced with somewhere else. I haven't met any snobs yet, but you can't assume that they won't be there. I first went to the Palladium for New Years Eve. I've been several times since then. The experience was similar to others I've been to in other cities. I've had a good time, and never drove home thinking "well, that was a waste of a hundred mile drive one-way." Beaumont simply has nothing like The Palladium, likely because few people in the Coonie Triangle are interested in ballroom or Latin dancing. I encourage you to find a class or party and stop on by.

They're currently running crawfish, but definitely call ahead to confirm the days so you don't miss out. And I have to say--Morgan is amazing. So friendly, helpful, and just makes the whole experience even better. You can tell they really care about the vibe and the people who come in. I called back again to make sure there wasn't a minimum or anything, and they confirmed my reservation. When I showed up on game day, I walked into the full bar that clearly had no tables and went up to a man with a Decoy shirt on who said they don't do reservations. I told him I had just spoken to someone yesterday, and he "you have wrong information, there's no way we can do reservations with this many people - you probably called the corporate office (it's the number listed on their website so that made no sense)" and was very dismissive of me and not apologetic whatsoever. It's totally understandable that reservations wouldn't be possible on a World Cup day. Seems like the staff are not all on the same page, or I was misled to just get my group into the bar (which has happened at other bars during the tournament so it's not unheard of). Had to take my three nieces elsewhere at the last minute and don't imagine I'll be returning after that experience.
