I purchased two tickets on April 4, 2026 for the Topview bus tour of New York City. Their credit card reader kept dropping, but the gentleman assured me that they were not charging my card. When I got my statement, it showed four separate charges from top view for the same amount of money, $329.81. I tried to get my credit card company to reverse it so far they've only reversed one of the four. I sent an email to Top view and have had zero response. Don't waste your money I purchased a 3-day pass with TopView Sightseeing in New York and unfortunately had a very poor experience. The buses frequently drove past stops without picking up passengers -- even when they were not full. I found myself waiting in multiple lines with other ticket holders, none of whom were able to board. On day two of my three-day pass, I gave up entirely. Other travellers I spoke to mentioned they had only managed to get on one bus during their entire 2-day pass, which says a lot about how unreliable the service is. There were plenty of staff on the streets selling tickets, but once you've purchased, the support ends there. We were repeatedly told where to stand, only to watch buses drive past while being told "maybe the next one will stop." I also reached out via email to request a refund for a pass that was effectively never used, and have received no response after more than two weeks. Overall, this felt like a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I would strongly recommend looking at alternative options when visiting New York. read more

The New York Hop On Hop Off was mostly a good way to see the city, but with a few hiccups. I love a good Hop On Hop Off adventure in a new city, allowing you to see the major sights (and pick a few you want to go back to when you have more time). We got to see a ton of the iconic buildings of New York and hop off in a few places that interested us. It was a convenient and easy way to get an introduction to the city. The only snag we ran into seems to be a common theme with these reviews. A bit of a bait and switch. We purchased the day tour and were upsold to add the night tour too. However, when we ended our enjoyable day tour and went back to the base office to check about the night tour, they told us that there was no night tour that day because they didn't sell enough tickets. We asked for a refund of that portion and they said the tickets were nonrefundable because we purchased it as a "package" with the day tour (because they sold it to us that way). So just be sure to ask all the questions beforehand when buying your tickets. The day tour was very enjoyable, but the night tour portion was a bit of a mess and bait-and-switch situation. read more

A man in red approached us as so many others before him but we listened to his spiel and decided ok in a split second. We had our hotel check out extended from noon to 1 pm. As all things happen it was 12:40 and we still were at stop 16. Oh no! I went down the stairs of the two decker bus and asked how do we get to stop one? He said next is 17 the last stop. I double checked: do we stay on this one to get to Number One? He said yes but... he called dispatch and said we'd have to cross the street and catch the one going in the other direction.once we got there the line was two deep- no ways we'd make it back to Times Square before 1 pm. Panic but brain still thinking, run and hail taxi fast. The first taxi said he was taken. He told me go to Westin on the other side of the street and ask them to get a taxi. Voila! The Bell man tagged one down for us in the middle of the street. So when you are told the downtown route on the Top View bus is only x minutes full circle without getting off... give yourself at least 15 minutes more. The belllman of the hotel was calling me if our suitcases were ready- he was on our floor/ yikes...everything turned out ok in the end. I was tipping $50 like no end in site today. read more

Which if all you're trying to do is go past the Statue of Liberty then you don't need to pay for anything. You can literally take the city ferry for free. read more

Topview was Ddelightful. A great experience for my first visit to NY City and in my opinión the best way to see the city. You can hop on and off along the way if you fancy some shopping or a bites to eat. Extremely pleased with all we saw and did. You can purchase a 3 day or 1 day pass which we fully utilized. We in fact purchased this deal twice. On board you pick a seat on the double decker bus, utilize given headphones to hear about the history of the different parts of town on your ride. My only quip would be the poor guy we purchased tickets from our 2nd go round. His device had issues and he needed assistance to complete our purchase. This took bit of time, but finally resolved. Our driver/tour guide was delightful and offered a wealth of information. All in all I would do this ride again. Completely worth it! read more

Wish I had seen this review before we purchased! 1) We purchased tickets and then 3 days later, they were $40 cheaper per ticket. I contacted Top view immediately, no response. I contacted them again and they responded saying they needed an order number. I responded with that and no response. Sent two follow ups, and nothing. 2) We arrived when we were told 15 minutes before 6pm. They have a line there, no bus. At 6:30pm, I walk up to the bus to find out what's going on. The driver is chowing down on a sandwich and shrugs his shoulders. Then a lady walks over and keeps saying "we are waiting for Santa and his elves." WTH does that mean? She laughs and shrugs her shoulders. I'm like you all are 30 minutes late. 3) We finally board right after 6:30pm. The bus is supposed to go until 7:15 but since we are now 30 minutes late, we get a shorter bus route. We never even passed Rockefeller center. 4) The conductor and the elf were too busy entertaining that a) it would have been nice to have a decent speaker and mic for the holiday music to start ON TIME, and b) to actually say what we were passing. They only did this for Saks. 5) then they actually wanted a tip. Get out of here. And invest in heat lamps. Your paper hats and blankets did not do anything. read more

They have tons of people marketing their services; however you can't ever find a bus to ride. The 2 bus drivers we had were rude. This tour was ....meh. We purchased our tickets on Groupon and although they are cheaper, I would recommend purchasing tickets at the bus pickup point. The process to redeem the tickets from Groupon is tedious as you have to go to the Topview office several blocks away from Times Square and give them all this information just to redeem the codes. Then you have to walk or rideshare all the way back to Times Square to get the bus. The line moves relatively quick once you're at the bus pickup point but it's very chaotic trying to het there since you have to navigate through all the people hanging around Times Square. Our guide was very dry and the jokes he made were actually somewhat creepy like pointing out his ex-girlfriends apartment. Even if it was a joke, it didn't seem appropriate. Also the points that he pointed out throughout the tour were special and didn't provoke a response. It was just a way to drive around the city without having to do the driving ourselves. I did like crossing the different bridges. That was fun to see the city at night from the roof of the bus and a cool breeze. It was also nice to basically see all the Burroughs and the life of the city at night. Otherwise, I most likely wouldn't go on this tour again with the same tour guide. What a scam. We were bounced around walking to a bus and then pointed to a dock to find our boat for a fast ride to the Statue of Liberty. $39.99 each turned into $110. Once we got to the boat we didn't see anyone with a red vest anymore and some guy scanned our ticket. A busted boat arrived and the crew came out to tell us it was an additional $20 a seat. this was the worst experience ever. we waited 30-40 minutes at multiple stops without ever seeing a bus and ended up walking everywhere. never laid eyes on one of these busses outside of times square. booked a nighttime tour online and made a reservation only to arrive and find that the street vendors were aggressively overselling sold out tours and ignoring reservations and just letting anyone on the bus who was walking down the street and paid them cash. never got the nighttime tour we paid for, never saw a bus for the alleged Brooklyn tour we booked, and waited 45 minutes while the driver smoked a cigarette and seven Big Red Busses went past us, until the street vendors met their quota of sales for the day. they appear to have maybe two busses total and just sell more space than they actually can handle. don't waste your money. read more

The Downtown Loop route stops were incorrect on the TopVew app and website, as well as on the paper map given to us upon boarding the first bus! We had planned out our day according to the route online to be logistically efficient, and the incorrect information really messed up our agenda. The signs at stops still say TopView, even though they no longer include those on the route. As a family traveling with young kids, the inconvenience became a bigger deal since we only had one day in the city and time was of the essence. Disappointing and frustrating experience. read more

The salesman told us the buses came every 10 minutes. We waited for the first one for 25 minutes and they only had 6 available seats so some people were turned away. It was miserably hot inside. There was a woman "training" the driver and another employee in training. She was extremely rude to both of them and there was constant banter going on between them. Worst experience ever. The driver never once opened his mouth except at the end first loop to tell us if we wanted to continue the ride we had to get off his bus and pick up next bus. Which is fine but during our entire ride he never said a word, like telling us the bus is about to start moving (safety issue) or updating us on each stop maybe giving us a few facts about certain places and attractions so that we could make up our mind if we wanted to get off there. I took top view NYC night tour bus twice, once last year and this past weekend. Both of the times I had the great experience. Bus took us through the NYC and it did stop three times from our stop no. 15 to pick up some more customers. The guys who were doing information commentary both of the times were awesome and kind. I purchased tickets last year from the street top view personnel and second time I got it from Groupon. For Groupon, I downloaded NYC top view app on my cell phone and added the Groupon using the order id that way it helped us prevent going to their office to redeem the Groupon. It all worked just fine. Overall great experience and I do recommend them. read more

The bus assistant stated that the bus comes every 10 minutes. This is not true. In the 25 minutes that we waited for a bus we saw 4 "Big Buses". He also stated that none of the buses have air conditioning. I'm not sure if the other bus companies do, in fact, have air conditioning. You might want to wait until it's a cool day. I've taken SEVERAL groups of students on tours of NY and DC. We passed by Trinity Church and they gave us about one sentence of 911. I would have liked the narrator to say about when George Washington took office, he went there for services and made it his church. You can even see his pew. I just want more history of the city. So we have used Hop On Hop Off services all over world, and for the most part, we have been very very happy. It is a great service when it works well. Top View DOES NOT work well! We were right outside the Empire State Building for our noon time slot to experience the observation deck when Peter approached us for Top View ticket sales. There are 5 guys on every corner and they can get pushy. Not all HOHO services are pushy but they have too many people out there selling so they have to be pushy. I purchased tix for four adults after explaining that we would be interested especially when they told us that they go all night. It was one of the first things I asked because in Norway, we had been left about 2 miles from our ship because they closed at a certain hour and we did not make that time. Peter assured us it would be all night, he talked about seeing the city lights. We also purchased the Uptown Tour which included Central Park. After our Empire State building tour, we jump on and our first experience is with Jason R. Wow, I have never had such a rude interaction with a tour company before. Just super aggressive and not just with us but with everyone I saw him come into contact. When he asked me if i had scanned my tix, which I was already trying, he said "haven't you done this before" sarcastically. My mom and my priest would have been proud of me because I did not yell out "on three different continents and not everyone uses scanned tix you @$$ wipe!" We took the bus to Battery Park where we planned to take the Staten Island Ferry. We didn't dare complain about the heat in the bus, especially after he told us NOT to talk to the driver. Yes, that's exactly what he told us; ON A TOUR BUS! I will say that after our ferry trip, my in-laws were willing to pay for an Uber so we didn't have to get on this bus with someone like Jason R. But we got on another bus with Rhino and Jacqueline and they were super nice. Unfortunately, they had us get off their bus because there was no air in the bottom deck and my in-laws were a little weary about stairs. But there was another bus already behind the first bus so we jumped on this 2nd bus. He too was nice but it didn't seem like this third bus had air either. It was a little better. We planned to take this bus to Times Square and take advantage of our Uptown tour. However; at the Port Authority Stop [#17] everyone was forced to get off because the bus could NOT go to station [#1], where the Uptown bus began. It was 6:50 PM. Wait, what happened to all night. Seeing the city lights. For $280, what I spent on 4 adult tix, I could have gotten two air conditioned Ubers and paid for dinner at any restaurant I wanted to. What a scam! Top View needs to fix their buses and make sure the air works for the people down in the lower deck. Also, by having so many sales people, they are all trying to outdo each other and will tell you anything you want to hear, without consequences. At the end of the night [around 9:00 PM], another group of about 12 sales people tried to sell me the night package. I showed them my phone tix and explained that we bought the night package but all I could get from them is them pointing to a little post card that had time frames. I went this past Tuesday, which was a nice afternoon if you are in the sunlight but it was very cold and windy on the rooftop bus which is the tallest of its kind in NYC. It was $68 for a two hour tour nonstop if you don't get off at any stops. Great way to get around the city if you aren't familiar with the area. Unfortunately the narrated recording that was provided with ear plugs was cutting in and out with high screeching noises. I missed out on at least half the tour information. Still a great way to see the city and get around town. Some stops were quick and others quite long waits, with minimal people boarding or un boarding the bus. End of March definitely not the best time for a tour, once spring is in bloom it will be a more pleasant sightseeing opportunity. I would definitely take another tour next visit! I would give 3.5 stars for TopView. There are many tour buses to choose from. read more

Do not use this company! We endured long waits, were denied boarding the bus, even when there were empty seats. We had tickets on a Sunday and even though it wasn't very busy, buses were not dependably coming by stops every 20 minutes as we were told. I'm giving a 3 star because the person who led out Evening tour of Brooklyn was wonderful. We got caught in a fast approaching rain storm that we weren't expecting. there weren't enough ponchos and everyone left the bus soaked, the tour was cut short, not topView's fault, I'm sure it would have been wonderful, but we all wanted to get back to Times Square. the downtown bus the next day was great except that we sat at some bus stops for 15 minutes, even the driver was frustrated; he was following directions from the company. The uptown tour would have been much better if the audio about the sites worked as we were going up the west side of Central Park. Very frustrating! Definitely get the 48 hours for the price of one day to make it worth the money. I would have given this 2 stars except for the tour guy during the rain. Title: Extremely Disappointed - Denied Boarding for Live Entertainment Tour Review: I purchased three tickets for the Live Entertainment evening tour on November 20 at 8 PM. We arrived on time and joined the only line available, as there were no signs or staff instructions indicating a separate boarding area for the Live Entertainment bus. The bus filled up just a few people before us, and instead of helping or directing us, the staff told us to "wait for the next one." We ended up standing in the cold for almost an hour, only to be told in a very unprofessional tone that we "missed" our bus -- even though we were in the only line provided. Eventually, we were put on the 9 PM bus, which was not the Live Entertainment tour at all, but a basic bus with headphones and audio. This is not what we paid for, and the difference in quality was significant. Very disappointing service, poor communication, and extremely disrespectful staff interaction. We paid for a higher-tier experience and received something completely different.
