The museum started as an online museum where it found international popularity for more than 10 years, before its CEO and Founder (an AMAZING woman named Patricia) retired to Maine and turned her passion project into a full-time labor of love with its own physical footprint. The museum is small and is comprised of just one room with various displays and an area with small souvenirs you can purchase to help support the nonprofit and its mission of chronicling and remembering the impact animals have alongside humans throughout naval history. There is ample free parking in the area and entry is free (but there is a box for you to make a cash donation if you're so inclined.) I cant wait to visit again in the future as the museum continues to grow and expand in its new location.

The tidal river is easily accessible within a 10 to 15 minute easy stroll from the parking lot. Horseshoe crabs can be seen spawning in June. Plenty of fish fry hatching in July. Great place to wade, but be mindful about disturbing the horseshoe crab grounds where there is sand. Clams can be gathered at low tide. But make sure you get a permit from the county clerk before hand. The daily clam bag limit is generous. Lovely views of the river, tall grasses and wildflowers. There is even an Osprey nest that gets used in Spring through Summer. A magical way to drink in midcoast Maine without a lot of driving and hiking.

Entry into the museum is free but you will have to pay at the gate to enter the park where the iconic Pemaquid Lighthouse and museum is housed. The Museum is housed in the Lighthouse Keepers House on the ground floor by the lighthouse and focused on preserving the fishing and marine heritage of the Bristol area with displays, models, dioramas and photographs. The museum is small and can be seen in less than an hour. One of the highlights of the collection is the GIANT lobster that was caught in the area. That alone is worth visiting the museum to see.

Luckily - we drove past the first parking lot right up and found a spot directly in front. Friendly volunteer staff took photos for me and you are able to go up and into the lighthouse for free and walk around in the gift shop which has some nice items and jewelry and collectible pins and magnets. The grounds of this lighthouse are lovely and you can easily walk out onto the rocks to get pictures from below and on the sides. There is a small memorial off to the left for all the keepers of the light who have been lost at sea. Excellent visit and very beautiful and photogenic lighthouse.

we happened upon this gift store outside of the main center of downtown boothbay harbor;…read moredistinctively placed next to the seafood/hot dog stand, which i hear is excellent, but have yet to try it (next time). at first one would believe it was only due to the anxious anticipation of shopping for something i wanted (imagine a shopaholic on the brink of freaking out for not shopping in the last 4 hours...). yes, it wasn't pretty... what great little gifts and other assorted goodies, not the typical tourist gifts shops located throughout; the owner considers her place as "unique gifts from the spice islands" - indonesia. i can't wait to see the expression on everyone's face when they receive these little exceptionally priced imported gifts. i give credit to the woman owner, patricia stone, utilizing a small area, making it an interesting and eye-catching place to stop. her pleasant and relaxed manner made it even more enjoyable to pick up as much as i could carry. i would have bought more, but needed to wrap it up in order to prepare for a night out for dinner (see newagen inn, southport, maine review...eek!). if i knew what dinner was to be, patricia would have been extremely happy. i had only began to shop when it was time to go. located as you venture through the one way road out of the gift shop route, where you begin to enter residences, then happen upon this excellent find. patricia has another showroom in wiscasset, which i never seen nor can review, but if it is like this place, then it rocks! reason i select home/garden in the categories is because of the type of gifts that can be used in gardens too.
