Both Total Wine and BevMo said I wouldn't be able to find what I was looking for in Arizona and that they could not special order it for me, but guess what - Top's Liquor had it! It was Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey. It's a whiskey that's hard to find. They have plenty of hard to find, specialty, and exclusive alcohol so if you're looking for something that's difficult to find, call them and they'll see if they have it in stock and can hold it for you that day. Which is what they did for me. Ended up looking around and found other treasures as well. Service is "top" notch, and so is their selection, I'll definitely be back! I have visited this place maybe ten times over twenty years. They have a great beer selection. understood the place is across from a major university but every time I enter this store I get treated rudely, I went in today the owner was yelling at someone over the phone , didn't find what In was looking for , was afraid to ask, left and will not return. this place is in the business of selling alcohol to kids and they otherwise don't care about the community where they do business. if iI could award this place negative stars I would. a waste of the real estate it occupies. read more

Seriously. This is the liquor store of all! I ran in here on my way to a birthday @ Casey Moore's to grab a bottle of tequila and stopped dead in the door. This place is amazing! Anything you could ever want (and might have to uncover) is here! Aisles are stacked high with liquors from everywhere. I was happily overwhelmed so I went to the cashier and asked him about the types of tequila and prices (I didn't want to pay crazy high but wanted something nice). He knew everything. Right then and there I got Tequila 101! I ended up with a nice tequila reposada and asked him, randomly, if he had a nice bag to put it in. Top's is a wonderful place for many wine and beer drinkers, and those looking to check out many kinds of spirits such as tequila, whiskey and bourbon. Top's boasts some select batches of bourbon that they get to pick out and carry exclusively for their stores. They are on a rotating list, and currently include Russell's Reserve, Knob Creek and three others. As I went through the aisles, I realized their main pull is with beer drinkers looking to try one of their hundreds of beers. They have just about every type I could see, most of which are not rare. Regardless, many are delicious varieties such as the Founders stout beers, and Belgians such as Maredsous and Chimay. I could barely turn left or right without possibly hitting a bottle, and had to be very careful as to not tip one over. That's how many they have, and you'll likely find what you're looking for as a connoisseur. What made it difficult for me to truly enjoy the establishment was in the pricing of the beers here. I found the pricing, and likely because it is hard to move such inventory quickly, to be rather high. I was able to purchase a six pack of Moon Juice (which is great by the way), but it was at the cost of 10.99. I am not used to such high prices for beers, and was shocked to find such high prices on many of their other beers as well. I would think if they moved more stock, prices would lower eventually. Overall, this is a great place to those looking to explore the Phoenix area and those collecting fancy beers, wines and spirits. Do check them out! read more

I called and spoke with Kirsten (sp?). They did not have it on the shelf. She took my name and number. Their next shipment from that distiller (that week) did not have it. We were staying in Tempe for the night after doing some local stuff in Phoenix/Mesa area. We got in around 4 and I just wanted to get some beers and sit by the pool and enjoy the almost-too-cool weather. I did some Googling and Yelping and found that Tops was my choice for local craft beer. At that point in the day, nothing was more important. I drove the 3 miles from the hotel to the store and was very happy I did so. All of the beer selections were to the right, and they were many and varied. I was looking for some local selections and found a cooler in the back that had everything I needed and wanted. I settled on some San Tan, Huss Brewing, and Lumberyard selections for the locals with Four Peaks as another solid selection. I was also looking for a local sour beer and the store associated were able to help me with that. They walked me right to the beers in the cooler. Prices were fair and service was great. read more

Tops is THE place for alcohol! Didn't know how big of a deal it was to live within walking distance of it until I told friends who are ASU grads about it. They raved on and on about it! So if the Professional Drinking University grads approve, then it's gotta be good. Every time I've visited, I never leave empty-handed. The staff knows their beer and liquor well! Wine? Not so much, but that's something I rarely purchase. It's packed to the brim (almost to the ceiling) with goodies. Appreciate you can see everything they have and their deep stock, but it makes it darn-near impossible to go around people in the walkways. The staff are great at giving suggestions for beer if you're in the mood for certain flavors or wanting to try something new. The store also offers 6-packs that you can mix/match your own, normally starts around $7-8 and upwards, depending on what you buy. I love that they have that option! If Top's Liquor were a friend of mine, he'd have a serious Identity Crisis with Attention Deficient Disorder. All the more reason to adore him, right? After all, he'd be the life of the party! When you walk into Tops, you see what can only be described as Sensory Overload. From boxes and boxes aligning the walls and stacked at the ends of the aisles to hanging paraphernalia, it's no wonder you get side-tracked so easily. What did I come here for? Oh, right. Beer! Having heard Top's sells Aquavit, a hard-to-come-by Swedish liquor, I had a feeling Top's would also carry some of my fave beer. Sure enough, although I'm sad to report they didn't have everything I was looking for. Where are you Hazelnut Brown? Where have you gone? Apparently at Top's, you can pick and choose the beers you buy, for many of the 6-packs were half-full (or half-empty, if you're a pessimist). This intrigued and irked me, for I didn't want to BYO6P (Build Your Own 6 Pack) if I came with one thing in mind: 6 bottles of delicious Breckenridge, Rogue or other brewed delights. Then again, if I can hand-select my 6-pack, that's cool, too. (I just wasn't sure I could, and I was too shy to try.) So I went with 3 bottles of beer: two Rogue I've never tried (American Amber and Moto Black) and one nut brown from Full Sail, an Oregon brewery. The selection here is great! They even had a newly discovered Sundog Amber Wheat, as well as a new ale from Breckenridge I've never seen anywhere else. There's also plenty of Alaskan and many, many, many other breweries present - on the shelf or in the fridge. They even sell Peroni! (Haven't found that anywhere else.) I wondered toward the East wall, passing by Belgian Ales and others that intrigued me. I've never seen anything like it. Top's has the biggest selection of corked beer I've ever seen. I tossed a glance at the Wine selection and decided to come another time when I was in the mood for vino. Upon checkout, I asked if they carried Rogue's Hazelnut Brown. The guy behind the counter went to look, grabbing a couple stacks of boxes and peering behind them at a whole 'nother stack of boxes. Guess they didn't have it, though he said they usually do. Hrm. For 3 big bottles of beer, I paid a little over $15. Each beer was about $5, which is a great price! I will DEFINITELY be back! (Top's would've gotten a 5-star from me, IF they had had Rogue's Hazelnut Brown waiting for me. Shame on them...) JUNE '08 UPDATE: So, Top's does carry the Hazelnut Brown. Yet, just as I have fallen in love with another Rogue beer - the black Moto Soba ale - I am having no luck finding it here, even though this is where I first bought it. Alas, I will resort to mixing-and-matching my 6-packs to explore other brews, like Full Sail and Lost Coast. read more

Love this place. The people here are honest and friendly. The little homemade signs they make through out the store are funny and really shows what a great local business they are. You can find beer, ciders, kombucha beer, mixed drinks, liquor from all over the world there. The BEST part about them is you don't HAVE to buy the whole set.
