We had a situation where a plumber came to fix a leaky faucet, and ended up breaking the granite, attempting to caulk the stone back into place, and put a hokey faucet with a faceplate to cover the damage. And to make matters worse, "it wasn't his fault - the stone must've been cracked by the people originally installing the faucet being repaired". I stressed over this for weeks. In my attempts to find someone to do the repairs, no one wanted to talk to me. All of the fabricators and construction teams around here want large jobs, like those rebuilding full kitchens damaged in all the fires in the Bay Area recently. After 19 years, our Kohler kitchen sink, mounted under our Corian counter, rusted through. The Corian cutout does not fit any sink that is still being made! Jim Heaphy and his son at TopRepair told us that they could retro-fit a solid surface Corian double sink and adjust the cutout to match, and do it so that you'd never know it wasn't always there! And that is exactly what they did! In one day, they removed the old sink, brought in the new sink, re-shaped the cut-out hole in the corian, and made the new corian sink match perfectly with the old countertop! Our 30 year old Corian sink was cracked and unusable. James cut the whole thing out and replaced it with a big stainless sink. This guy is so good, he was like a surgeon in there cutting the sink out. It required hours and hours of severe concentration, bending over the counter. The shape of the sink and counter was unusual and required a lot of improvisation, but no problem for James. He overcame several tough obstacles and wouldn't let anything block the final goal of the perfect sink installation and great interface between the new sink and the old counter. Took him about 2 days and what a great price. Really personable guy also, totally trusted him in the house and enjoyed talking with him. He evidently learned everything from his Dad who ran the business before him. What a great high quality family business, you can't go wrong with this guy if you have Corian in trouble. Be very aware of the practices of this business. My Corian sink cracked and unfortunately Top Repair was recommended by the Corian dealer in Oakland to replace the sink. For $1700.00 they cut the existing sink out without a dust barrier, even after I asked had them if it would cause a problem. Assured that there would "not be much dust", the whole living area was a terrible mess with fine white dust everywhere, the "new" sink has two chips in the bowl and there was a water leak under the sink after they left. I called the owner about the sink chips, dust and the leak and he said I should clean the chipped area with bleach cleanser, would pay $100.00 toward the cleaning, and would pay a local plumber to have the leak repaired. In the end, the chips are still visible, the cleaning cost was over $200.00 and the leak repair cost was almost $500.00. When I sent the bill to Jim he said the leak problem wasn't their fault and sent a check for $150.00. read more

The Corian had developed a 6 inch crack along a seam that extended through the decorative, elaborate countertop edge. I had my doubts as to whether anyone would be able to repair it so that the damaged area would not be visible. Jim and James brought many years of experience with them and were not only able to repair the seam but polished the adjacent surfaces so that they looked brand new! Beautiful work, on time, easy to deal with, and friendly as can be. Our new sink actually had a bent corner (thanks, Kohler!), but the dynamic duo managed to bend it back and install it so that the sink looks perfect. He said it was a quick fix and would do whatever else he could in his two hour $200 minimum service charge. I used his website to schedule an appointment for the next week. The chip took him about 10 minutes to fix, so he spent the remainder of the time polishing the entire countertop. It looked like new when he was finished.
