Topcuts doesn't look like anything special. Just another salon chain, nestled in a small plaza beside a dry cleaners, a convenience store, and a Subway. It's fairly unremarkable inside -- neutral colours everywhere, a counter up front, and a sign-in sheet for customers. But as you sit in the waiting area, you can't help but notice what makes this location special: familiarity. Warm smiles as the employees greet customers by name. Ask after their families, how work is going. You realize that most customers are regulars who have been coming here for years. The atmosphere is welcoming. It feels more like visiting friends than going to the salon.
The most wonderful part of this Topcuts, though? Bev. Bev, Bev, Bev. She is an absolute gem. I've been seeing her for four years, and I won't let anyone else cut my hair. She's very experienced and skilled. I have thick, flat hair, and she's given me an array of amazing pixie and undercuts over the years. She's a gifted perfectionist and will not let you leave her chair until your hair is just right. If you bring her a photo of a style you like, Bev can turn it into something beautiful that works for you. Not only is she fantastic at what she does, but she's a heck of a person, too. She's a lot of fun to chat with while doing my hair, and I've never felt awkward in her chair.
Topcuts is walk-in only, so there can be a bit of a wait. Bev is always worth waiting for, though. So go see her, and tip her generously while you're at it. Because she's the best, and she deserves it. read more
