3 years ago I would have rated this place 5 stars. Aquilibrium was the best salon in Oshawa and had some of the top talent. Although the front desk service is still top notch, this place has high turnover and quality has gone down. In the past year I have gone through 3 stylists, because they keep leaving! I need stability people. Someone who understand my hair and what I like, so I can enjoy my trip to the salon. In the past year I have returned home with a terrible hair cut because none of the 3 hair stylists understood my hair. They didn't have the time to! If you can get a stylist who will stick by you for a few years, then I'm sure Aquilibrium will be a great place to go. However, based on my recent experiences they have turned away a loyal customer. I have only been to this salon once so I thought it wouldn't be fair to rate my experience BUT you have 1 chance at impressing your clients so..... The front desk is friendly, professional and is exactly what I would expect from my own establishment so kudos for that. Unfortunately, I will not return to this place because the girl who cut my hair ruined it. I should have known going with a junior stylist wasn't smart - you always get what you pay for. Additionally, she was cold and didn't say a word to me. Even when I tried to engage her in conversation she was very short. It was like trying to squeeze water from a rock. I dropped in last Saturday and I stood at the door for quite a while while a customer chit chatted on her way out to one of the people at the shop. Finally she left and I asked if I could get my layers trimmed. I was told not today, I would have to come back another time. I asked if I could come back tomorrow She looked at me and asked if I had been there before, I said "no" I hadn't, She then told me they were only taking regular customers. Well, I said "I would have thought at a time where local companies were crying for customers, they would of found some time for me to get my layers trimmed." I will not go back. Actually might have been a good thing. I've heard this place was great when it was new but, has been steadily on the decline, I hope when Covid is over they aren't looking for new clientele. I have been having my hair done for 15 years at this salon and have never come out unhappy with my colour nor my hair cuts. I had always wanted to go to Aquilibrium but thought it would be too expensive. Well after having my hair done at another salon and not liking it, I finally decided to book an appointment with Aquilibrium. Yesterday I had my hair done by Heidi. What I liked was she discussed with me my color, offered suggestions and then gave me a beautiful color!!! Then Sarah who is in training gave me an amazing shampoo (so zen like & a stress reliever for sure). Sarah then blow dried and styled my hair. I am extremely pleased with what was done and I am so happy that after all these years I made an appointment with them and look forward to my next appointment!!!! I've been getting my hair cut by Mike for a few months...the over all vibe is relaxed and the service is good. What I like is the appointment management service...they call to remind you of appointments (this should be standard) but also advise if your time needs to be adjusted by a few minutes or rescheduled...making the most of your time. I love it at aqualibrium. I get my hair cut there and recently got the hotheads fusion hair extensions done by them. They matched real human hair with the same colour and curl pattern as my natural hair. They are supposed to last up to 8 months. I hope they do. I was informed at the consultation that the price would be $450 but 3 weeks before my appointment I got a call saying it would be $740. The total came up to $850. It was way out of mt budget and I was upset when they raised the price. Other than the price mix up I had a great experience. And will definitely be going back. It would be nice if they could make the hair extensions more affordable. read more

Cool place, great people. Had to dock a star because I can't afford to go there. With a 10% tip, my bill came to $88 just for a cut.

I just got back from my appointment and honestly it was disappointing. The staff was excellent and my colourist and stylist were both really nice, but they did not really allow me to have any input. I asked the colourist to just tone what I already had, and she completely went rogue and did what she wanted. I went into the appointment with a light balayage and came out darker than my natural brown colour (despite her asking me if I wanted this and me saying no). My hair is now just a dull dark brown and not what I wanted or showed her. She also gave total directions to the stylist who cut and styled my hair, and really just told him to chop it despite me wanting to keep my length. I can understand that she is the professional, but if I am to pay over $250, I want the hair I want, not her own creation. They also did not ask me how I wanted my blowout, and just styled my hair the way they wanted it to look on the company's Instagram. To me, that's really frustrating. The experience was fine and everyone was nice, but it's very frustrating to pay so much money and not get exactly what you want. I even showed pictures, so I don't know why this was so confusing. I don't think it is worth the money at this salon. You're paying for the experience, not the quality. read more

If there were 10 stars I'd rate them 10! Fantastic service! The technicians & all the hair stylists are of the highest caliber. They always confer with each other , so your sylist & color technician speak to each other .This ensures you get the very best cut & color & notes are kept by both team members! They train & have apprentiship positions & these young people learn from the best! The atmosphere is relaxing & I look forward to my shampoos with GREAT enthusiasm ! The appointment staff is phenomenal! They all look after the clients as if we are the most important people in the salon! No one is left seated waiting long , there is always a staff member to check on you to see if you have been looked after! What can I say , I've been around many salons ( I'm not under 45) but this is a keeper! My many regards & thanks to every one who makes every visit for me a joy & pleasure! You are the best! What I dislike most about this salon is the assembly line mentality and the feeling of being rushed. I also had to wait 2 weeks to get in for a hair cut with a more experienced stylist; honestly, I've never waited 2 weeks for a haircut before - very inconvenient.. read more

I had a full head highlights done and what was supposed to be a cut... I must say the highlights were ok. I more liked the person that did them then highlights themselves. Nothing spectacular just average. But let me tell you about my non existent hair cut... I asked for layers and thin out my hair cause I have a ton of it. It took him 40 min to blow dry my hair and trim the ends. NO Layers, no thinning out my hair and on top of it I left with a frizz!!!! I had to put up my hair in a bun cause it was so frizzy! It was horrible! I told him not to spend to much time styling as I had no plans for the night but who would have thought that I would be walking out with an Afro! And it all cost me close to $200! And I was there for 4.5 hours! I am so upset it's not even describable and when I told him I was not happy he switched to tactical communication... I have been a client there several times before and I was only truly happy with only one service that was hair colour by Liz. All other times and all other jobs were just average. You can have it done same at first choice or other salon. But today was the new low. I don't think I will be going back. read more

I went for a cut and colour, and the lowlights applied to my short hair were virtually non-detectable. I had never had my hair coloured before so I called to let the salon know, and they told me to come in to have my hair re-treated. The manager agreed when I arrived that it looked like I needed to have it done again. The same colourist recommended very dark lowlights be applied to my hair, and I was uncertain, but told they would be fine. They were handpainted into my hair without foils. In the salon, I didn't think they looked too bad, but when I got home discovered that I had what looked like a Nike swoosh drawn on the side of my head. My husband had to cut it out for me as it was terrible looking. The overall look to my hair was that of tiger stripes as she applied the colour across my head, instead of from root to tip. Wish that the manager had checked on her work. I have been madly trying to get the colour out of my hair since my appointment Very disappointed and won't be back. read more
