It's fairly unremarkable inside -- neutral colours everywhere, a counter up front, and a sign-in sheet for customers. But as you sit in the waiting area, you can't help but notice what makes this location special: familiarity. Warm smiles as the employees greet customers by name. Ask after their families, how work is going. You realize that most customers are regulars who have been coming here for years. The atmosphere is welcoming. It feels more like visiting friends than going to the salon. The most wonderful part of this Topcuts, though? Bev. Bev, Bev, Bev. She is an absolute gem. I've been seeing her for four years, and I won't let anyone else cut my hair. She's very experienced and skilled. I have thick, flat hair, and she's given me an array of amazing pixie and undercuts over the years. She's a gifted perfectionist and will not let you leave her chair until your hair is just right. If you bring her a photo of a style you like, Bev can turn it into something beautiful that works for you. Not only is she fantastic at what she does, but she's a heck of a person, too. She's a lot of fun to chat with while doing my hair, and I've never felt awkward in her chair. Topcuts is walk-in only, so there can be a bit of a wait. Bev is always worth waiting for, though. So go see her, and tip her generously while you're at it. Because she's the best, and she deserves it.

I plan to book with Daniela from now on or one of the other stylists.

When I finally had an opportunity to see Ryan Oakley, lead stylist and owner of Black Sheep Hair, he demonstrated compassion and understanding that so many stylist simply omit when helping a client break out of bad hair care routines. I would blow dry my hair everyday for only four minutes with a flat brush which eventually took away the shine, fullness and health of my hair. Ryan's talent at cutting and putting me at ease to stop trying so hard to go against my natural waves cannot be overstated. He helped me stop using so many products and suggest that I only need to wash my hair once a week or as required depending on the climate. When I left the salon the weekend of Pride, many people inquired where I get my hair services done and for the first time in a few years, I actually started to like my hair again. As expected, Ryan suggested that I could come by to see how my hair would evolve without the blow dry and the results were quite evident as he did promise that my hair would improve as time goes on. I would like to offer this review to anyone who has felt that their hair is in need of authentic TLC, along with the kindness and warmth of Ryan and his team. Thank-you so much Ryan for the best cut I could have ever hoped for along with your caring personality. I look forward more of your expertise throughout the year!
