I hired Lee (aka Kelvin) for a landscaping project and while he was very eager and persuasive…read moreduring the sales process, the experience quickly turned frustrating and unprofessional once work began. Lee was not licensed for landscaping work and was not insured, yet failed to disclose this before starting the project. Without notice or explanation, he stopped working partway through--even though I had already purchased plants that needed to be put into the ground--and then pressured me for additional payment before continuing. He also hired an unlicensed subcontractor who caused damage to my home and did not inform me about it. When I discovered the damage and brought it to his attention, he was hesitant to take responsibility and attempted to put all responsibility on his subcontractor. Eventually he seemed to understand that as the main contractor he bore responsbility for the subcontractors he brought on site and promised to arrange repairs, however, he continuously changed his mind about how to proceed. On several occasions, I went out of my way to meet with prospective repair contractors at my home, but the arrangements always fell through because of his indecision. Eventually, I informed him that I would move forward with the repairs myself and send him the bill. At that point, he stated he would cover part of the cost while the subcontractor would pay the rest. The subcontractor promptly paid his share, but Lee has continued to delay and avoid paying his portion. As for the landscaping work itself, I have mixed feelings. Some parts were done adequately, but the quality fell short of the promises made during the sale. From the first day on site, it was clear that he was focused on keeping costs down, which unfortunately translated into cutting corners. After the job was "completed," I had to redo certain areas myself because there were no quality checks and some of the work was poorly executed. Overall, I cannot recommend Lee for landscaping work. The lack of proper licensing for landscaping, lack of insurance, sudden work stoppages without explanation, unprofessional conduct, poor communication, use of unlicensed labor, and failure to honor financial commitments far overshadow any positives in the workmanship.
