Not immediately obvious from the street, this one, despite the street being Park Street. It's above another shop, but the entrance is up some stairs next to Cafe Rouge.
I spent approximately a year of haircuts going to Top Six and I have no complaints. The only reason I stopped going was that I moved to the other end of the city and it's just not practical.
The feel is traditional salon for men and women - there are pomades and natural bristle brushes by each bulb lit mirror, and the carpets and the leather salon chair are retro-tastic. Luckily, the cutting and colouring techniques are not. Up-to-date training means that all the girls who work there aren't afraid to experiment with your style, although only as much as you'll let them. They're not scissor-happy.
The highlights they did lasted ages without fading, and I was impressed with the fact that they use 'friendly' shampoos afterwards without harmful chemicals and with organic ingredients. The head massage is possibly one of the most relaxing my scalp's ever been subjected to - warning: you could fall asleep!
Prices are far more reasonable than Toni & Guy, women can expect to pay around £28 for a wet cut and blow dry, and upwards of about £60 for a full head of highlights. read more
