this place is on my top 5 list for weekend brunch. i love brunch. it's my favourite meal of the day. the hotcakes here is super moist and delicious with pretty decorations of edible flowers. i've tried a couple dishes on the menu but the one that stands out for me is the wage beef sandwich or was it a burger. well whatever it is it makes my mouth water every time. i really enjoy this place as it's surrounded by windows so that the sun shines in in summer and you can watch the rain in winter. friendly staff but there's always a long wait if you don't come early. first in first serve read more

Fresh produce and lovely interior, that's for sure. Why there's such a hype I'm not sure. The meals sound creative and great, but I'm often taken back by the simplicity of them. For example with the avo, it's literally just half an avocado with nothing added. Why pay $15 for that? Their batch brew is always tasty and doesn't cost the normal ridiculous price of "filter" coffee. read more

Feels like a breakfast factory... Service is efficient but I feel like I'm on a production line. Lacking soul.. Got the top paddock; bacon, chorizo, eggs, peppers, onion and green tomatoes with relish. Well the peppers, onion and green tomatoes were undercooked, the toast was not buttered so the watery eggs made the toast soggy.. The chorizo was incredibly tough felt like I needed a scalpel to cut a slice of it.. I felt like this place would have been the place to come for good food 5 years ago, but the quality and ambience now available do not make this a destination for today.. One of my favourite go to places in Melbourne, and it's one of my top breakfast restaurants to recommend to out of state friends. Everything they serve feels well thought out, extremely well presented, and is good food with fresh ingredients. Upon arrival you'll usually see the steady throngs of people waiting to get inside, but it normally doesn't take that long to be seated. Walking in you'll find the establishment is stylishly decorated to an almost industrial, Melbourne feel. Without fail, I'm sure to order the hot cakes which are absolutely delicious. Gorgeous to look at, and amazing to eat - what more could you want? The only downside is that I can never seem to finish them due to the heaviness of that meal, so it's good to go with a friend and swap plates mid meal if you want a little change. Their broccolini is also one of my favourite additions that they serve - perfectly seasoned, I could eat it forever! read more

Somewhat disappointing. Only 5 minute wait at 10am on Sunday but 40 minutes for breakfast to arrive Coffee was okay. Cold pressed juicy seemed watered down. Pork belly was quite dry with little belly fat. Fried bread was cold. Very noisy inside, I was relieved to leave. Do not waste your time waiting. This place is not set up to accommodate the number of patrons. The vibe i get is that they are trying to cook with great produce and thoughtful menus, but if you do not have a booking, not only will you wait for a table you will wait minimum 45minutes for your food. So if you are hungry go elsewhere. You will be told a half hour wait when it will be minimum of an hour. To top it off the food is average. Porridge was watery, white beans were cold. The waiter we had was really genuine and nice but that is not enough to make up for everything else. My review is a big contrast from others reviews, but if you have any standards you will try elsewhere. read more

Justifies its high rating. Cunningly chosen by my dining companion. Nice modern space sited invitingly on Church Street. Some nice greenery off to the side. Easily reachable by public transport. The interior is warm and inviting and rather nicely set out. The food and coffee are outstanding. I had the beans with chorizo and thought they were spectacularly good. It was distressing to finish them. The coffee was also superb. The service was excellent too - a young Brit who was very poised and accomplished. Price was absolutely fine, n'all. I found it hard to fault anything at all here. What else would anyone want out of a place for breakfast or brunch other than great food, drinks and service in lovely surroundings? I couldn't have been happier and wandered off down the road most content. I'd give it a 4.8. It's not a full 5 because there must better a better place on the planet somewhere. read more

Well worth the 40 minute wait on a Saturday morning. Buzzing atmosphere and friendly staff. I had the coconut bread with stone fruit. It was absolutely beautiful. Think it's slightly over rated but not a bad place. Due to the high volume of customers through the door things take a little longer & there is generally a 20minute wait or so on weekends for a table. Food wasn't over the top amazing but still very tasty. Check it out for yourself! read more

Are you prepared to wait for great food & excellent coffee? when I am I go to TP. It's consistently packed out on weekends but service is friendly and it remains one of the best brunch spots round these parts. I've eaten through most of the menu (hey it took a while) & try the specials on most occasions. The quality is pretty consistent and I like the effort made on taste & presentation. There are more hits than misses and black coffee drinkers will rejoice here, it's fantastic espresso from 5 senses and they will start roasting their own in a few months I hear. It's a beautiful space they've converted with lots of light so it makes noshing a real pleasure. I recommend you try the specials (school of prawns bring that back!) and the from the regular list: snapper & avocado, top paddock big breakfast, soft-shelled crab bun, ricotta hot cake, white anchovies on toast. A line for breakfast? Certainly not something I'm willing to do. Be smart about your arrival time if your spare time is too scarce valuable to line up at this flavour of the month cafe. It's just a cafe after all! After we were seated (20 mins wait for a Sunday brunch), the coffee was excellent, served as it should with a mineral water shooter, and the breakfast a very creative mix of good old fashioned brekkys as well as some new ones. I had the fish - cooked perfectly accompanied by eggs, perfect avocado. I looked longingly at the soft shell crab burger the table ordered next to us - next time... I ate here with my friend yesterday for Brunch and ordered the Pan Fried Salmon with potato rosti and also The Top Paddock along with a latte and iced mocha. Whilst it tasted good at the time, shortly afterwards we both came down with food poisoning even though we ate different dishes. This is worsened by the fact that we paid over $60 for our meal from what is supposed to be a classy, well-established restaurant. Also the management openly berated staff members who were clearly overworked, perhaps they were understaffed. Went for a birthday breakfast nice and early on a Tuesday morning. No parking problem and didn't have to queue. Had the crispy skin ocean trout which was well presented and very tasty. Have been here several times , the last time I was invited with other family's My best friends daughter was sent away whilst in the line She waited over 30 minutes (whilst we tried to find parking!) for a waiter to tell her go away unless your family show up It was mortifying, rude and will never be coming back she cried for nearly an hour after she's almost 16! The waiters are rude People are pushy and once you have a table the wait Is also at least 30 to an hour minutes for a crowd of 3-4 I loved the ricotta pancakes I hated the eggs (I had an omelette) I eventually sent them back three times in one sitting! Bacon is nice but they only give you one strip of you don't like the "poached eggs" The cafe was great before it became to "mainstream" The Bircher used to be great and again on one visit my friend ordered it then I did mine looked like a pile of slop Hers was presented beautifully I also ordered a donut thinking they were made in house They ARE NOT! Was disappointed as it was also stale!!!!!! But cannot fault the Coffees! They are fantastic as well as the beautiful outside area My view is they need to sit back and stop treating others like shit and treat everyone equally Very noisy and non accomodating read more
