I had to come to Elmhurst Hospital yesterday. I pass by here thinking of getting some fresh seafood. I see cleaned squid and I think I can make something with that since I have fresh tomatoes at home. I get a pound and a half. I also get some russett potatoes. I pay and once again, I don't get asked if I need a bag while the cashier moves to another customer. The bag is visibly full plus it has a t-shirt in it, so I'm not putting raw seafood in the bag. Top line is your go to spot if you're in the hunt for difficult to find obscure southeast asian ingredients from countries like Thailand, China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Indonesia and others are well represented. The shelves are loaded with canned, boxed and dry goods. The freezer is also well stocked with items like chili peppers, banana leaves, cassava and grated coconut. This is one of the few places I can buy Thai eggplants and kaffir lime leaves. Remember, if you dont see what you're looking for, ask since they do keep some items like the kaffir lime leaves in a cooler by the register. Limited vegetables, but a good selection of seafood and meats. Parking is limited and the meters are max at 1 hour. I have shopped here for several years and - while the location is convenient, the fish is good as are the vegetables, and the selection of SE Asian canned goods is really good - I always leave having had a somewhat bad experience. The usually guy at the fish counter is rude, the store is dirty even in time of Corona virus, and the cashiers are really rude at least half the time and sometimes try to overcharge (apparently this is part of their business model?). Regarding the good selection of SE Asia stuff, you do pay for it as their prices, while not being a full-on rip off, are never a bargain! I am not mandarin speaker and I get a hard time from the employees sometimes. I have noticed observing other customers and talking to friends that this is especially true for people who not Asian who shop in the store. I have several friends, all of who non-asian, that have unanimously reported to me that they have been treated strangely in the store. This has included being yelled at, being followed around the store, being given a hard time by the cashiers. One of my friends told me that he asked the cashier if they didn't like white people in the store and the cashier responded by saying "yes you are absolutely correct". While I doubt that the cashier actually knew what she was saying, it's pretty funny but sadly TRUE. This is not a strictly Asian neighborhood, it is an extremely diverse neighborhood: be part of the neighborhood Top Line, not just yourselves. If the owner of the store can see this: please give your employees some cultural sensitivity training, and please make sure your store stays cleaner all the time. read more

Been stopping by Top Line for grocery shopping for years now. This store carries a lot of Southeast Asian stuff, such as canned curries, condiments, noodles, sauces, snacks and so on. I got bad experience one time when I purchased a bag of mussels from them. Mussels were full of mud and dirty gravels. They were disgusting and inedible. I didn't bother to return them, but informed the store. The response was expected. ;( I love their poultry and produce sections though. I find most ingredients for cooking Thai food here with reasonable prices Chicken breasts look clean and are individually wrapped. Whenever I want to cook Thai or Thai-like food, that is definitely my go to place. It's also where I can buy boxed 33 oz Aroy-D coconut milk and fresh frozen coconut milk and many other Thai products as well as Chinese, Philippines and other Asian ingredients at very good prices! read more

Top line is not a big supermarket but it has some food or some rare items that I need. On forth of July I had BBQ at my backyard so I bought large shrimp and some seafood here. They have no parking lot so if you want to shop here you need to park on a street and it is like a gold to find a parking spot around here. read more

Never ever shop here. They overcharge for the items they sell and I've seen items sold here that are past its expiration date already. Hello NYC inspection ?? And you won't believe how rude their cashiers are. Apparently customer service has always been a problem with this store judging by previous comments and it is true from my own experience. Don't let the name of this place fool you, it is NOT ONLY a meat market but a supermarket. This place is indeed a mecca for those that seek SE Asian groceries, particularly Filipino, Thai and Indonesian (with a handful of Malaysian and Chinese thrown in). From what I gathered, Asians don't really care about cleanliness in their grocery stores. Neither cleanliness nor the noxious smell deter them from coming back, perhaps to them none of these really matters. This store is no different. From the minute you walk in, you are greeted with the seafood aisle. Putrid, vile and disgusting. But hey, at least you know your seafood is fresh. Lots of flies, puddles and definitely cross contamination between meat and produce. But heck, I go there anyway. Why? Because everything I buy is packaged and sealed shut. read more

Top Line is a gem of an Asian supermarket in Elmhurst. It's really well priced and you can get great southeast Asian spices, snacks and vegetables here. I prefer to Hong Kong Supermarket as it's smaller and you can still get everything you need here. The fish department is fabulous and so inexpensive! I'm talking about $5.99-$7.99 LB for shrimp. $5.99 LB for salmon tails. $7.95 LB for tuna. The chinese brocolli and the bok choi are also very cheap, as is the Thai Jasmin rice and chillis. Only one cashier that is really rude. She works there for years, never smile and scanned my item 2 times. When I confronted her about it, she denied it and after doubling check the items she said to me rudely "Sometimes I made mistake" not even a sorry.... One time I saw her called buyer thief and that person confronted her and he was so mad because it wasn't true. You also can get Thai, Philipino, and other exotic SE Asian condiments and ready-to-eat snacks. Located off the Elmhurst Ave station and steps from the Q53 bustop, Topline is a full market featuring produce, meats, seafood and wares. Similar to other markets in the area, this one sells the only item I care for in bulk quantity and cheaply thus far. Indomie! The ramen noodle brand preferred by marines and sailors of the 7th Fleet, allegedly. At time of printing, it cost eleven bones per box each consisting 30 pieces. I mix in frozen shrimp and scallions for a quick snack. Aside from the condiments from the old country, like sambal, tamarind paste, blachan, krupuk. you can rent cheesy Indonesian DVD for the night. right after you gorge yourself on durian ice cream. My goodness this place is fresh deficient. I was going to be oncall and wanted some refreshing treats to take with me so I bought some cherries which were not out of season (for Peru) and were priced ok BUT they were so old that they were rotting a little inside. They looked ok from outside but once in my mouth, they were flavorless and the meat was without firmness. I bought those cherries because they appeared to my eyes as the BEST looking fruits they had placed out. The other fruit seemed a little on the over ripe to rotten side. Top Line is one of the dirtier-looking and unattractive Asian markets in Elmhurst - especially during the summer months when you are greeted with aromatic fish and hordes of flies at the front door. BUT... ...If you are looking for a great supply of (not just Chinese) Asian ingredients (Thai eggplant to frozen kaffir lime) and supplies (from mortar-pestles to bamboo rice steamers) you will not be disappointed (after braving through the gates). The store is a typical Asian market that have something that other Asian supermarkets have but the cashiers are not friendly, by behavior, face and attitude. If they charge you a wrong price, and you ask for correct price that you saw on the shelf they get upset at you, not even apologize. The store policy limits for credit card is over $10.00 and if not the cashier will talk to you in a nasty way. Came here to kill time while a friend needed to get checked out at Elmhurst hospital. It looks small upon entering with the meat market area but there are tons of narrow aisles filled with great Southeast Asian products. Also a big fan of the chips and snacks they carry! I shared some photos of items I would have liked to buy. I didn't want to carry it the rest of the day though. I'll be back for sure! Great supermarket to buy meat, seafood, and a lot of asian snacks. Definitely one of my go to markets. Highly recommended for you to buy meat. Definitely cheaper then the bigger supermarkets. Dont buy american products here. Those items always cost more there compared to the bigger named supermarkets. read more

There are other more extensive markets in close proximity but this place has many items you can't find in those places. That's the main benefit of the place. So if your looking for non health food store 'authentic' tempeh (only place in the 5 boroughs i could find this) or a particular variety of fish sauce you may very well find it here. Not everyone is driven by nostalgia for a particular brand from the their childhood. But if locating hard to find items of Asian origin is important to you dont miss this place. read more

By far one of the worse supermarkets that is still open to this day. Top Line has been here for ages. I came here today only because the other supermarkets around the area (Hong Kong and NY Supermarket) parking lots haven't been plowed yet. So I double park outside of Top Line hoping to get some fresh produce but all i see is really disgusting vegetables. There's barely any variety. Their produce section is just pathetic.
