Continue reading for more details ----- Ambience/Atmosphere: A+ Cleanliness: A+ Customer Service:A+ Overall Rating: A+ Ambience/Cleanliness Studio 27 "downsized" to being just Blessing and her husband and it was a BRILLIANT move. The salon is a gorgeous open concept set up with Blessing being the only stylist it there is plenty of room. It is also gorgeously decorated, it's not just a hole in the wall shop...they clearly took a lot of pride in picking out the color and decor of this salon. Customer Service Making an appointment online is super easy and Shawn (the receptionist) is friendly and always willing to answer questions and concerns. Blessing is super friendly and professional. When I get my hair done I love having a stylist I can chat but, I also want my hair to be done in a timely fashion and Blessing finds a good balance of keeping it moving but also but also making her clients feel pampered and not rushed. Overall ratiing This is a great salon! Like I said, Blessing keeps things moving! Your appointment starts right on time and you'll feel comfortable while in the salon. I couldn't ask for more in hair salon.

Today I was in desperate need of a cut and wondered how much different could a $30 cut be? MISTAKE, MISTAKE, MISTAKE! See the photo, but I've added a 1000 words b/c it doesn't do it justice :-) This place is no salon and spa, it's more like budget cuts. The whole story is below but here's a ranking: Customer Service: Sucks, tho stylist was nice to "chat" with Technical Skills: None Salon: Looks insolvent Would ever go back: No, I'd do a better job myself. Saying the product rack was sparse is an overstatement. No receptionist. There were 2 client in chairs which seemed like a positive sign. I finally asked girls who were sitting and chatting but looked like they work there (from across the room) if I could get a hair cut and dry. A stylist who was working on a client at the moment said "10 minutes". No one offered me a drink or told me to help myself to the water cooler, even tho there were no cups which I checked for because I was thirsty. I didn't want to complain because this woman would be taking sharp scissors to my head. There were no magazines or hair books for me to flip thru. When she was ready, I still had my coat on and she started walking me right over to the sinks. She never introduced herself, so I asked her what her name was and she said, MARIA. I asked Maria where I could put my coat and her response was a finger point to a chair that had a bunch her personal stuff piled on it. So standing in front of the sinks , I explained to Maria what I wanted: Long side swept bangs blending into my long hair that I wanted to keep. I couldn't believe she hadn't asked me before she started washing. ( I should have gone with my gut and walked out then. Hindsight's a B****. ) She said I had pretty/nice hair, then proceeded to wash it with COLD water. Not warm or lukewarm, but legit COLD WATER. Oh wait, it really wasn't a wash. I do a better job washing my hair when i have a wicked hangover and the only reason I'm showering is b/c I have to go to work! No scalp massage at all she didn't even wash the roots! I asked Maria how long she'd been cutting hair and if she had ever cut Asian hair before and she said, "15 years and oh yes I have many many many Asian clients." (For those of you unfamiliar, Asian hair typically has a much rounder shaft than other hair types so it needs to be point or razor (cut at a slight angle) so it lays flat. Imagine a cylinder that is cut @ a 90 degree angle, it has a sharp corner and if all your hairs are like that, the layers don't fall rounded at the bottom of your hairstyle.) My hair's texture is fine but I have an abnormally high number of follicles per sq. inch (I've been told by other stylists) so this means that I have A LOT of hair that always requires sectioning so the scissors cut thru it evenly. Back at the chair, we discussed how much bangs to cut and layers. FIRST, Maria started cutting the bangs in big lops, not using a razor or razor type comb or point cutting in. She didn't divide my hair into sections, instead she just cut big lops off the bottom. Since I have so much hair the bangs look super thick because she didn't thin them out or even try to blend them into the longer layers. Maria did not add any product or anything to add volume or style. The thing she did well was blow dry. It was straight, smooth and dry (again, not hard with Asian hair). The attached photo says it all. I doubt that she is licensed and I am kicking myself for wasting my money there. I always tip my stylists very well - 30-35%. I initially pulled out $7 as a punishment tip but then just gave her a $5 which is still generous because I'm going to have to go somewhere else to get this mess fixed!!!!!!!

Cons: Highly defensive and gaslighting owner. Cares only about the reputation of her business, but doesn't have the genuine care it takes to retain loyal customers. Very fake "friendly," like aggressively friendly to the point where you're not allowed to have your own feelings or opinions. Will cut you off and claim you're the one interrupting, will assume any pushback is an attack, will think the worst of you when you're trying your best to be courteous to everyone else. Also: your brows will be bleached off such that you don't have any brows anymore lmao. Bro I'm so embarrassed, fortunately I wear glasses so the top frame of my glasses can hide my (lack of) brows And yes, my hair was messed up this time again, too. Serenity in the City - this business could not have a better name to describe it. Although it may…read morenot not look like a full service spa from the parking lot, it is a multi layered location that you really dont want to leave once you enter. As you open the door your blood pressure immediately reduces and your senses are delighted with dimmed lighting, aromatherapy and calming background earth and music sounds. The atmosphere is full tilt ambiance - and each area of this space is geared to the service you are receiving and engages your senses in so many wonderful ways. The interaction at the front counter could not be more pleasant - they are super friendly and attentive at all times. In terms of the reservation of appointments, booking software is not something you would normally consider when rating a salon but I must give this one mention. Their reservation system handles calendars for both the Medford and Stoneham locations and the beauty is that it sends you texts to inform you of your appts and even sends gentle reminders closer to "beauty day". In my busy life, i need and love that! Full service beauty service can be found here and the expertise of the staff is top notch -- they are qualified, very professional and exuberate "positive vibes" with not only their clients but also each other (no bickering about who stole their hair brush last kinda stuff) - which is not something you wanna hear when trying to relax and get beautiful, right? Right! I do believe the staff emulate the personality of the owner, who is undeniably the most positive, upbeat individuals i have ever met. As with many other businesses this past year, she was forced to shut her doors and lose revenue, for herself and her staff, while her clients were searching for ways to remain gorgeous. She was consistently communicative to her clients and staff on social media on how and when the shop could reopen - and when she had no answers, she was quick to creatively think of ways that she could generate revenue while still serving them well. She was one of the first owners to put together little build your own beauty kits for customers and instituted a safe/minimal contact curbside delivery for those that were not able or comfortable coming into to the shop. She is so innovative with her out of the box ideas and always delivered them with a bright eyed smile. SITC is an outstanding full service salon and spa with an atmosphere that leaves you so relaxed that you practically need smelling salts to drive home.
