Between three of us, we ordered two meat curries and one vegetarian, rice for three, and two naans and the cost worked out to around $30 a head. Whilst an expensive feed of Indian, the curries were good and delivered to our table quickly. Otherwise, service left a bit to be desired--staff could have been more attentive as they took a long time to retrieve the payment and deliver our change. All in all, nothing special, but if you find yourself at South Bank really craving a curry, Gandhi Curry House will satiate the taste buds. Note: evening closing time depends on amount of business.

But I think this little curry house can hold it's own. I went here for a birthday dinner and was chuffed with the range of dishes being brought out. The Meat samosas were dee-licious, just the right amount of chilli and a perfect starter, the Lamb Korma was fragrant and rich but the Garlic naan was my favourite of the night, buttery light and with a palatable garlic flavour...it went all too quickly for my liking. The service was OK but nothing to write home about. The only gripe I have about this place is the price, The meal was good but I know I could find better value indian fair elsewhere.

It's not merely a takeaway, it's actually a large restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, but I use it purely for takeaways. Takeaway usually implies comfort food (or just sheer laziness) which means that I clearly have a favourite (and, embarrassingly) it's the only dish I've tried. But when they make it taste so damn good, why would I bother with anything else? Anyway, the chicken tikka masala (YES, ok it's the most commonly ordered item at any Indian restaurant, after butter chicken, but hear me out) is incredible and definitely beats chocolate in the comfort food department any day. You can choose your spice level, but the sweetness of the sauce balances the spice, providing overall warmth to the whole dish. Oh, and the garlic naan. I love it because it's not oozing in oil and is delicious with the subtle sweetness of the garlic. My takeaway menu is a permanent feature on my fridge (don't know why I have a menu to be honest), but I'm not sharing it so go in and get your own.

Halims is possibly one of the most delicious Indian restaurants and never fails to disappoint in regards to food, service and ambiance. I find myself getting takeaway from this place ever 2-3 weeks. The standout factor is obviously the food. I have ordered everything from the tandoori meats to the Biryani rice dishes. Most mains are offered in mild, medium, hot or 'Indian hot' depending on how tough you are. The two dishes I find myself always ordering are the 'Palak Paneer' and the 'Chicken Tikka Masala'. Pair one of these curries with one of their freshly cooked naan breads and you shall feel like royalty. Another thing I love about this place is the friendly service the place offers. Every time I have been there, the staff will welcome you with a smile. The Chef will sometimes come out of the kitchen to view the dining area to ensure his customers are enjoying their meal. It is little gestures like this that can make your dining experience much more memorable. I would recommend everyone to try this Indian restaurant in Rosalie. It is a wonderful restaurant that offers excellent food and service with a smile.

I chose Klay because of the two previous 5-star reviews and we were not disappointed. This family owned and run BYO restaurant has been in business for 1.5 years. It has eight 2- and 4-person tables inside (that can be joined for groups), plus outdoor seating. Indian music is playing at a good volume, and although ambiance was maybe a tiny bit lacking (it doesn't claim to be a fancy dining venue anyway, so it's ok), the food and the service more than made up for it. The menu has a ton of choices, so we needed some help. "Mom" was brought over and pointed out some favorites and specialties, explained the taste and spiciness scale, and patiently answered our questions. For our group of five, we settled on two starters: - Amritsari Machhi (deep fried marinated fish) - Chicken 65 (deep fried chicken, then coated in a sauce with tamarind flavor - not an actual ingredient), four mains: - Malai Kofta (veg) - White coconut chicken curry - Chicken Jhalfrezi (memories for one in our group growing up in...London!) - Lamb Korma, two bowls of absolutely delicious Kashmiri Pulao rice, and some Naan breads. Our favorites were... Everything? Well, the naan bread was naan bread (a bit more dense/ less crispy than 'normal' - I liked it a lot, but that sentiment was not shared by everyone in our group); everything else was quite unique. The Amritsari Machhi was really special (5 pieces of good fish and very tasty batter - not fatty at all). All our mains had something unique to them. We ordered one spicy, one medium, and two mild. The mild ones had fantastic flavor; not at all "bland" like you often get in other restaurants. We were warned that, when compared to other restaurants, the mild was medium and medium hot, but we liked all. The hot Jhalfrezi wasn't outrageously so, the medium Chicken Curry and the mild Korma had a good bite to them (and great flavours); the mild Kofta was simply fantastic. We loved it all, could not pick a 'winner', and will go back for dine in, and for take away. Our bill came down to $28 per person, which we found beyond reasonable considering we were stuffed and enjoyed a lot of different dishes. We managed to clean all plates and bowls on the table, but if you're happy with a smaller meal, one curry, one rice and some naan bread would likely just suffice for 2 people.

When we were planning our Brisbane, Australia trip, my dad read somewhere that there is a large Indian population in Brisbane so the food there is authentic and very tasty. Of course, we are always down for a good Indian meal so we walked just a few blocks from the Queen Street Mall to Indian Mehfil and got ready to indulge. We arrived there a little after 5:30pm but because it's almost winter in the southern hemisphere the sun had already set and it felt much later. The restaurant looked much fancier than we were dressed but being the hungry folks we were, we didn't let that deter us. After being greeted by the very friendly staff we found our table and looked at the menu. Of course there was quite a bit of curries to choose from and being as hungry as we were we wanted to try everything. In the end we settled on the butter chicken with a side of garlic and cheese naan bread and the lamb vindaloo (they also had a kids' menu and our less adventurous girls chose the chicken strips). You know it's going to be a good meal when upon taking our order, the waiter asks, "How hot do you want it? Medium, hot, or Indian hot?" We wisely chose medium which offered more than enough kick for us. The food came out fairly quickly and the portions were very generous. In fact, the waiter advised us that one order was probably enough to share with two people and he was very correct. Even the kids meal was big enough for both girls. Overall, it was a very, very good meal. The food was very hearty and very well seasoned. Our lamb vindaloo had large chucks of tender lamb and I almost couldn't eat all of it (almost). And the butter chicken sauce was so good you could have just poured it over the rice and that would have been plenty. The prices were very good considering the exchange rate and the fact that you could share an entree. If I'm ever in Brisbane again, this place is definitely on my list of places to eat.

The only reason for the 4-star rating is the price. Fish vindaloo was $22 for a mid-small bowl, plus another $4 each for the naan and lassi (total of $30). Other Indian restaurants would have charged about $15 for that same dinner. Aamaya is significantly better than those places, but I don't think they are twice-the-price good.

Knowing Friend: It's been there for months, moron. Looking back, the bain marie out the front for take-away customers should have been a red flag. When I finally booked a table at Nataraja, I ordered the chicken tikka masala and my dining partner ordered butter chicken. (We were feeling giddy and reckless that night.) We sampled each other's food and agreed both dishes were pretty good. Actually, I disagree with my fellow people who say they love Indian food but actually mean Westernized substitutes: the best butter chicken in Brisbane is not at Miss India. Nataraja's butter chicken is tastier - less overflowing with cream - and probably a centimetre closer towards being actual real Indian food. The interior of the place is nice - darkish and elegant - and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful to the point where they can anticipate your next request. It's just a pity Nataraja is so hidden from the road and (if my deranged mind is any evidence) even frequenters of this Red Hill shopping village.
