Initially we switched to this vet because the vet we trust and love no longer offered large animal…read moreservices. Spoon River promised and assured us they would be available in the event of a large animal emergency. Not long after we hit a streak of bad luck with our horses. The first incident our horse injured her hoof in the pasture causing an extreme laceration, upon contacting Spoon River they stated they were too busy to send someone and recommended we trailer the horse that couldn't walk 5 feet let alone step up into the trailer to them. It was not until weeks later when the dogs were taken in for shots that we consulted the small animal vet as to what more we could be doing for our horse (she is fine now, no thanks to them). The following spring we had an older horse go down, we knew it was probably his time but wanted to give him a fighting chance. It took them 2 days to finally send someone out and by that point it was entirely too late. The final straw... our horse with known arthritis started swelling, we called and again they were too busy, the next day he was found laying in the pasture unable to get up. For 15 hours I sat with my horse hoping and praying. Yet again Spoon River left us high and dry and for our animal to suffer. It was awful watching my boy struggle and knowing there was nothing I could do for him. I called another veterinary service and they managed to fit us right in and were rushing to get to us. However, by the time they got there it was too late and he had passed on his own. So, if you have large animals please!!!! please!!! do not trust that Spoon River will be there to help you when you need it most. not to mention the unprofessionalism and rude staff. They will never touch any of our animals EVER again.

I did a lot of research before I decided to take my cat to Pekin Animal Hospital. Since my animals…read moreare like family, I wanted not only a location that was important but staff that was as well. Needless to say, I HAVE NOT BEEN DISAPPOINTED! I have an exotic cat, Egyptian Mau, which not every vet is familiar with and to top that off he is dropping weight rather quickly along with other symptoms. Being a single mom at the time, it was important to me that I stick to a budget but help my cat, who to me and my children is like famiy. Long story short, Dr. Niki along with each and every one of Pekin Animal Hospital staff member (sorry that I am not mentioning each and every one of you) went above and beyond to comfort me AND my cat. Unfortunately he did have to stay overnight, which was not easy on me, my children or my cat. But the staff at Pekin Animal Hospital made his stay as comfortable as possible. They made me feel bringing in all the extra little "crazy" = ) things "normal" in order for my cat to feel like he was within his home-like atmosphere. Unfortunately, we did not get a good diagnosis BUT they continually love on him when he has to come in to be weighed and treated and always welcome us with professionalism and THIS is what brings me back and why I will recommend them to anyone! Thank you Pekin Animal Hospital for being so wonderful. For loving my Jack just as much as I do when he has to stay with you and making me feel so comfortable leaving him with you even though I don't want to! = ) Gwen Lutz

We called to get heartgaurd and flea medicine and were told they could only mail it to us, weird. We are moving out of state so we asked to get a paper script to fill and they said they'd do it, this was first thing in the morning. Fast forward to the afternoon they still hadn't written it and said they only do scripts with 24hr notice and it was a courtesy to do a written one at all. Really? Every vet I've gone to in each state we've lived in has never had an issue getting us basic meds like this. They seemed kind of rude and if we were staying in the area we would be looking for a new vet.

Please please keep your pets away from Dr. Sherry! Her "treatment" would have killed my cat if I…read morehadn't found an ethical vet. I trusted Dr. Sherry, and my poor cat was in horrible pain for months because of her malpractice! Horribly substandard "dental" on my cat. Seven teeth removed (ripped out, she left the roots, more in that below), he was sent home bleeding with no pain medication bc at the time he was taking a steroid and the vet, Dr. Sherry said that the steroid would be his pain medication. She felt no need to tell me TWO WEEKS before when she first saw him that with the dental that the steroid should be stopped so he can have a pain medication. Why didn't she tell me? She knew the meds he was taking! I would've gladly stopped the steroid if I had known. . Then, the experience with this "vet" got much worse. Three months after ripping out seven teeth with no take home pain med, his health and ability to eat had only declined. He was obviously in great pain. I'm not a vet, and I foolishly trusted Dr. Sherry. I called them to ask for another dental potentially but wanted to know what the vet thought. Ironically it was lucky for me she never cared to communicate. I had set up a second "dental" appointment but said I needed to hear from her first. As luck would have it, (although at the time I still trusted this vet) I heard nothing from the vet regarding my cat's declining health and I was sick, so I canceled the appointment for the so called "dental". I then took my cat to a much better vet, she set up a dental, and informed me my cat was in such great pain bc Dr. Sherry NEGLECTED TO REMOVE THE ROOTS OF THE SEVEN TEETH SHE HAD EXTRACTED from my poor cat. He would have died from the malpractice he received here, and it's absurd that I paid hundreds, possibly thousands for Dr. Sherry to cruelly mutilate my cat's mouth. I am appalled and shocked and greatly saddened that my pet (or any living being) was entrusted to her. I debated about this review bc I don't like to say negative things but this is a level of disregard, malpractice, and cruelty that must be mentioned for the well-being of any pets. She had no regard for the life of my pet, or the great pain she put him through, and I still am disgusted by the total lack of compassion for a living being by this clinic, and especially Dr. Sherry.
