I spent two nights at Toomullin House on the recent Tour of Ireland. This is a little bed and breakfast that is a little off the beaten path in Doolin. I have never stayed in a bed and breakfast before so I wasn't sure what to expect.
We were given two rooms upstairs and across from each other. This was fine as it was just me and my parents up here in this area. It was really more like a house and we were just in our separate bedrooms. I know some like this but I soon realized I kind of prefer the anonymity of staying in a bigger hotel where you can skulk around and do what you want in private without your comings and goings being noticed. Ha, sounds like I'm a shady character huh?
The rooms were clean and had similar amenities to hotels. Coffee/tea, towels, private bathroom, nice bed. No soaps/shampoos though and in these particular bathrooms they had corner showers installed that would be difficult to use if you are a bigger or taller person. I didn't have a problem though and I really liked the black and white tile used in the bathroom. Wifi, we were told, was available in the room but worked better if you signed on downstairs and then went upstairs. Somehow I could ONLY get it upstairs and never got it downstairs. So just know it is spotty.
Breakfast was downstairs in the lounge. The owner was a nice guy and would ask about what time you would be eating and what you wanted. We had scrambled eggs and toast both days...plus the usual coffee and tea and juices. There's a TV down there but it was very small and perhaps hooked to a VCR? Not sure you are going to be there enough to watch TV though.
Location is out past the end of the strip of road where restaurants and pubs are....but not too far. If you go to McGann's, McDermott's, and the Riverside Cafe you will not walk far at all. Walk a bit farther and you can get to O'Connor's pub.
I thought as far as a room this was A-OK. The owner was nice and helpful, the place was clean, and everything was fine. But for me, I found that I just don't like the feel of staying in a house with strangers....I'd rather stay in a big building surrounded by strangers while being anonymous in the big scheme of things. But if YOU dig B&Bs you would like this place! read more
